Jackson is worthless in the redzone because he is too much of a girl to win a jump ball or catch in traffic.
He is a gadget player who is being put into the same category as elite receivers like Moss, Fitzgerald, A Johnson, etc. down. He is even close to these guys and this is reflected in both his statistics and impact on critical 3rd downs and redzone plays.
He is ONLY effective on deep balls and gadget plays. Like Reggie Bush, good on designed plays, horrible everywhere else.
Steve Smith outweighs Jackson by 25 pounds and is way more physical. He is a legitmate deep threat and possession receiver.
Santana Moss sucks hard.
Jackson is a decent gadget player, but shouldn't be considered an elite receiver. He is only effective on streaks and deep posts on early downs. If you need a big fade pattern in the endzone or a crucial 3rd and long catch, he is worthless.

The reason he isn't a legit receiver is that he is virtually worthless in the redzone. He is too small to run the corner endzone fade and he gets pressed by corners when there is zero threat of him going deep.

Randy Moss scored 19 TD's his rookie season. Jackson scored 3 playing in the West Coast offense. You can't compare these two players. Moss is the fastest athlete to ever play professional sports, is 6'4, and has a 40+ vertical. He is so physically dominant that it's impossible to guard him without double or triple coverage.

Rice was a great receiver, but his gaudy numbers are mostly the result of Montana and the early West Coast offense. Defensives were too slow to defend against San Fran's passing attack. Rice was in a the right place at the right time. Would he have been nearly as effective had he played for the Bears or Giants? Probably not.

Jackson is worthless in the redzone because he is too much of a girl to win a jump ball or catch in traffic.
He is a gadget player who is being put into the same category as elite receivers like Moss, Fitzgerald, A Johnson, etc. down. He is even close to these guys and this is reflected in both his statistics and impact on critical 3rd downs and redzone plays.
He is ONLY effective on deep balls and gadget plays. Like Reggie Bush, good on designed plays, horrible everywhere else.

Steve Smith outweighs Jackson by 25 pounds and is way more physical. He is a legitmate deep threat and possession receiver.
Santana Moss sucks hard.
Jackson is a decent gadget player, but shouldn't be considered an elite receiver. He is only effective on streaks and deep posts on early downs. If you need a big fade pattern in the endzone or a crucial 3rd and long catch, he is worthless.
I'm fine with Jackson, I just hate how he is compared to legit receivers.

He had 60 catches and 2 TD's last year. For a #1 receiver, his numbers are absolutely horrible. He got two lucky TD's this year ( blown coverage and missed tackles) and it is unlikely we'll see him score 60 yard TD's every Sunday.
The reason he isn't a legit receiver is that he is virtually worthless in the redzone. He is too small to run the corner endzone fade and he gets pressed by corners when there is zero threat of him going deep.

How is he a combo of Moss and Fitz? He is 5'10, 170 pounds. He has average hands and can't win balls in the air. He's going to catch 3 or 4 balls a game and maybe score 5 or 6 TD's. Moss and FItz consistently catch 10-12 balls and score over 12 TD's per season. His production will never match these two.
Jackson is Reggie Bush playing receiver. He isn't big enough to dominate every play, but can weasel out a few big plays per game via reverses, deep balls, punt returns, etc.

Randy Moss scored 19 TD's his rookie season. Jackson scored 3 playing in the West Coast offense. You can't compare these two players. Moss is the fastest athlete to ever play professional sports, is 6'4, and has a 40+ vertical. He is so physically dominant that it's impossible to guard him without double or triple coverage.
Ditto for Fitzgerald.
Jackson isn't in the same league as Fitz and Moss. He's too small win balls out of the air and has mediocre hands.

Fitz gets significant separation. He is wide open all game AND can grab balls out of the air. He is the most dynamic receiver in the game right now because of this. You cannot stop Fitzgerald.
The original arguement was that Desean isn't a legit #1, but then some moron said he was better than Moss and Fitz.
Every LEGIT #1 receiver has comparable speed to Jackson. What Jackson lacks is size and amazing hands. Since he is only effective on streak routes and gadget plays, he is not a 1.

DJ is similiar to Rice in size, but that's about it. Rice had a better work ethic, ran better routes, and had much better hands.
Rice was a great receiver, but his gaudy numbers are mostly the result of Montana and the early West Coast offense. Defensives were too slow to defend against San Fran's passing attack. Rice was in a the right place at the right time. Would he have been nearly as effective had he played for the Bears or Giants? Probably not.
