GT4 does NOT push the ps2 to the limits. There was an article online stating that GT3 pushed only 26% of the ps2 hardware. GT4 did not change much other than the physics and lighting engine. Also 1080i upscaling is further evidence they didn't push the ps2. Upscaling meant they had extra RAM left over that could have been used for polygons, textures, or other stuff.

Yeah you have a point. There's 11 F1 teams in GPC, so 11 different texture models with similar 22 car models with 11k polygons each. Still that's more than twice the poly count of gt4 cars. Also in the video there's even reflections of all 22 cars on the wet road, isn't that impressive? Gt4 wet road only had 2 cars
About ram, I was thinking about ps2's low 4mb VRAM. Upscaling would seem to use quite a bit of valuable vram. Some ps2 games ran at lower than 480i last gen to save vram
you know how the game lets you transfer the A and B licenses and 100,000 credits if you have GT3 data saved to your memory card? Well my question is: If I wanted to start over on my GT4 game file, can I transfer the data back over again or was that just a one-time shot?
at 2:50 you said that you have to start off with a used car when you dont because you can transfur money from gt3 onto your gt4 game and you can transfur up to 100,000 credits so yo can buy a brand new toyota supra or a proto-motors spirra
i sometimes think that with all the driving games around people forget that gran turismo was where it all started gran turismo was the best driving game of its time and it still is
The game really boost good graphics but I feel that the driving is way to difficult too handle. I tried enough to like the game but I couldn't since I cant play it properly. Drifting in this game is really very difficult.

@hahaha13822 you go onto career mode then you click on the grey icon that looks a little bit like a camera you choose what destination you want then when you are happy with the picture just click the little red button then when your photo pops up just push the square button on your controller to save it and your done ;)
alright so about 5months ago I decided to fire up the PS2 again and play GT3 for the first time in a decade so I started playing that and got through it from start to finish, did all the races...done. After that I thought it would be a nice follow-up to play GT4 again so I began playing that but found it awkward. The first-person view seemed way higher up than GT3, aside from that the way the cars handle the turns, the front/rear weight transfers when braking hard, I'm not used to it...weird

I got this game on release amazing game,but me and my brothers couldn't beat the game due a glitch on one of the Opel races if my memory serves me correct. No matter what we did the cars would have a ridiculous rubber band effect and always win. Great review I still remember drooling at the title screen lol.
@gamerkyle123 That's weird I had an early PS2 slim and bought GT4 when it came out for it and it worked fine! One thing about GT4 is it's one of the few PS2 games that uses a dual layer DVD. Does it play real DVD movies all the way through?
Oh man oh man. I used to LOVE this game to death when it first came out. I would rent it from the video store so often, I might as well have owned it. I played the shit out of it, too; single-make challenges, open cups, endurance races and all. Best game of my early teen years for sure.
Sadly, the video store I used to rent it from closed down at the beginning of this month. It will be missed. :(

@james42519 There are a fair bit of "every day" cars in the game. There is the Dodge Neon, Dodge Intrepid, Ford Taurus SHO, Ford Focus, Ford Cougar, Honda Civics, Honda Accords, etc. Lots of cheap JDM economy cars too. Most of them are like 60HP city cars lol. Very "every day" there.

lol sounds like you have shitty luck with cars I had one car my whole life a 93 Hyundai Elantra use to be my mom's old car. Had it for 7 years until the engine just died last year and it wasnt worth fixing. Didn't bother getting a new car because i was saving so much money and i carpool to work anyway. Public transit is really good where i live and if i need to go somewhere far i just take the motorcoach or rent a car for a day.
@Zain844 lucky you. these are the cars i had 2001/2002. when i got license. yeah guess maybe bad luck. there is no such thing as public transit here. there are taxi's but they are a lot of money and you need to call them. there is no buses, there is something called rtec but you need to call them like a day before to get a ride and don't know how cheap that is too. i don't have anyone to give me rides really. kinda need a car here in Kentucky.
Excellent overview. I really love this game, but the wheel ruined it for me. I bought the official Logitech wheel from my brother after owning GT4 for a year. It was fantastic... I owned a moderately modded Miata in r/l at the time and racing in GT4 with the wheel felt so close to the real thing that I couldn't imagine playing the game with the controller afterwards. But I had nowhere to mount the damned wheel. So the game sat until I finally broke down and sold the game and the wheel.
That one is definently going on my buy list. Thaks for makeing the video. The graphics looks really really good also in the game. I stumbled across those pressure sensative buttons by misstake. It's pretty cool though. :)
nice review!!! IMO i hated gt 3 and 4 - the first 2 were the best. hell i still play the second one. by the time 3 and 4 came out there were tons of the same games available and i had lost interest.
GT4 is a solid game but with a few conditions and holes in its foundation. For one there is no damage. Not even time penalties. That was a big mistake. You could bounce off walls to win races and that to me is not realistic. Also get rid of the many many many nissan, japanese cars models that are practically the same or similar. Also get rid of cars I will probably never use... And get rid of license tests! GT4 is good but seems old fashioned. It needs to evolve.
GT4 is one of the best racers on PS2, however, it never did wow me like the first GT on PlayStation or GT3 when it came out for PS2. It's like they were going for all the realism, but 4 still didn't have any negative impact on your racing for running into other cars / barriers. That's probably why it's still a driving simulator and not a racing simulator.
With that said, this along with Tourist Trophy were excellent showcases for 1080i in last-gen gaming.
@Stinger2578 Just wanted to add that with all the promised modes, vehicle count, online play and damage - I'm really looking forward to the final (full) version of GT 5.
Back when I first got my slim PlayStation 2 in 2004, this was one of the three games I got with the system(the other two games were Colin McRae Rally 3 and Tokyo Xtreme Racer 3). I would play Gran Turismo 4 day in and day out. I love this game. I have yet to play it with a steering wheel, though. I'll have to give it a shot with my Logitech G25 steering wheel. That should be awesome.

This game is really awesome. One thing that is really stupid about it though is that for some stupid reason the european PAL version doesnt support HD through component...
I've played this game quite a bit and it is a great racing sim for sure. I must say the ps2 is the best console ever manufactured simply because of all the good titles available for it of every genre. I mean 25% of the games are average to good which is a great ratio for a system with as many games as the ps2.
@KieranD212 The earlier model of the GC had the option for component cables. Later ones were composite-only. it could put out 480p or 480i respectively.

Whenever i think of GT4 i get a little sad inside. Not because it's a bad game, quite the opposite it's a great game. Or at least it was back when it was released, haven't played it in a long time. But it makes me sad because the day i got it my PS2 broke. I was so mad, since i had been waiting for GT4 for months.
Im not the biggest racing fan, but like you said. GT4 has DeLorean DMC-12, my alltime favorite car. So it's awesome just because of that. =)

@james42519 There are a fair bit of "every day" cars in the game. There is the Dodge Neon, Dodge Intrepid, Ford Taurus SHO, Ford Focus, Ford Cougar, Honda Civics, Honda Accords, etc. Lots of cheap JDM economy cars too. Most of them are like 60HP city cars lol. Very "every day" there.

@Zain844 just one. 96 pontiac sunfire. my first car was a 90 geo metro, second car was a 92 chevy s10 ( had a few accidents with this), 3rd was a 80's mazda 323 (flew this off the road and bounced it 3 times and into a tree) , 4th was a dodge omni (nothing but trouble) , 5th was a 94 chevy cavalier ( overheated and cracked the engine) ---->

@Zain844 , 6th was a 94 mitsubishi mirage ( this car was good and had a accident with it and still drove it. sold it for $300 to someone and they had a accident with it) , and 7th was this 96 pontiac sunfire. if too much money to fix cheaper to get another car usually. auto auctions are nice places. lot of cars $1000 and under. they usuaally don't go over $2000
metro traded 1st gen Mercury Grand Marquis, s10 got from mom, mazda323 $300, omni $400 think, cavlier $700, mirage $700, sunfire $700.

lol sounds like you have shitty luck with cars I had one car my whole life a 93 Hyundai Elantra use to be my mom's old car. Had it for 7 years until the engine just died last year and it wasnt worth fixing. Didn't bother getting a new car because i was saving so much money and i carpool to work anyway. Public transit is really good where i live and if i need to go somewhere far i just take the motorcoach or rent a car for a day.

@Zain844 lucky you. these are the cars i had 2001/2002. when i got license. yeah guess maybe bad luck. there is no such thing as public transit here. there are taxi's but they are a lot of money and you need to call them. there is no buses, there is something called rtec but you need to call them like a day before to get a ride and don't know how cheap that is too. i don't have anyone to give me rides really. kinda need a car here in Kentucky.

Excellent overview. I really love this game, but the wheel ruined it for me. I bought the official Logitech wheel from my brother after owning GT4 for a year. It was fantastic... I owned a moderately modded Miata in r/l at the time and racing in GT4 with the wheel felt so close to the real thing that I couldn't imagine playing the game with the controller afterwards. But I had nowhere to mount the damned wheel. So the game sat until I finally broke down and sold the game and the wheel.

That one is definently going on my buy list. Thaks for makeing the video. The graphics looks really really good also in the game. I stumbled across those pressure sensative buttons by misstake. It's pretty cool though. :)

nice review!!! IMO i hated gt 3 and 4 - the first 2 were the best. hell i still play the second one. by the time 3 and 4 came out there were tons of the same games available and i had lost interest.

GT4 is a solid game but with a few conditions and holes in its foundation. For one there is no damage. Not even time penalties. That was a big mistake. You could bounce off walls to win races and that to me is not realistic. Also get rid of the many many many nissan, japanese cars models that are practically the same or similar. Also get rid of cars I will probably never use... And get rid of license tests! GT4 is good but seems old fashioned. It needs to evolve.

GT4 is one of the best racers on PS2, however, it never did wow me like the first GT on PlayStation or GT3 when it came out for PS2. It's like they were going for all the realism, but 4 still didn't have any negative impact on your racing for running into other cars / barriers. That's probably why it's still a driving simulator and not a racing simulator.
With that said, this along with Tourist Trophy were excellent showcases for 1080i in last-gen gaming.

Back when I first got my slim PlayStation 2 in 2004, this was one of the three games I got with the system(the other two games were Colin McRae Rally 3 and Tokyo Xtreme Racer 3). I would play Gran Turismo 4 day in and day out. I love this game. I have yet to play it with a steering wheel, though. I'll have to give it a shot with my Logitech G25 steering wheel. That should be awesome.

I've played this game quite a bit and it is a great racing sim for sure. I must say the ps2 is the best console ever manufactured simply because of all the good titles available for it of every genre. I mean 25% of the games are average to good which is a great ratio for a system with as many games as the ps2.

Gamecube supports Progressive Scan using Component Cables.

@KieranD212 The earlier model of the GC had the option for component cables. Later ones were composite-only. it could put out 480p or 480i respectively.

Whenever i think of GT4 i get a little sad inside. Not because it's a bad game, quite the opposite it's a great game. Or at least it was back when it was released, haven't played it in a long time. But it makes me sad because the day i got it my PS2 broke. I was so mad, since i had been waiting for GT4 for months.
Im not the biggest racing fan, but like you said. GT4 has DeLorean DMC-12, my alltime favorite car. So it's awesome just because of that. =)

The 1080i is just upscale from 480p. Not bad (at all) for a PS2, but it ain't native.
