  • great kwi music

  • who the hell could dislike this song!!!!! DX

  • Anyone remember a TV ad for a beer brand that did a version of this song ? It had a guy being real lucky at the cricket , playing pool , playing pokies and sitting at the bar in a pub. Been trying to find that ad with no luck.

  • "And now his wife's left him too" = Helen Clarke

  • Is it just me or are there cicadas being used in the music as an instrument?

  • @Sevenkilts thats an affirmative , in the very essence of the positive pronunciation, - however - a vetinarian was available at one weeks notice - or 2 weeks if bribed... at no time were the cicadas harmed or in any way wrapped in cigarette paper and ceremonially incinerated. - the survivors were allowed to go home early, - those itching for a ride - just hopped on a dog

  • Well, this song sums up New Zealand aye =P haha

  • This song makes you feel good to be a New Zealand er..

  • the original version is much better and more down to earth... this is a load of twaddle...

  • @Amberol I agree. And his too littlest kids got eaten by a whale, are you going down there this year, he said "Fred, right on the nail!" I loved that line most of all:)

  • 2:16 haha, always hate getting stones and dirt in your gumboots

  • I think this attitude is something akin to American arrogance actually. We have great scenery, and the lack of people is kinda nice, but we have a shitty economy, and lack of culture.

  • @spots2012

I am English- live in Australia and have visited NZ six times over the years- mostly to see my shithouse rugby team get the arse from yours.

New Zealand is full of culture- Maoris alone have fascinating legends and beliefs- also there's Scots, Danish, Polynesian cultures too.

You live there and obviously know better then me but to an occasinal visitor- NZ seems chock full of culture- is a great place and has good people- not as obnoxious as Aussies or pessimistic as us Poms

  • @spots2012 I hardly think that's fair. The point is that we live in this wonderful country with so many good things and we don't even know it! Most of us are whinging on about how amazing other places are and what a 'hole' NZ is, without realising what a great place it is to live in! The point is that we DON'T know how lucky we are...

  • And yet John Clark moved to Oz, sad really

  • @sideburnmonkey Not for me matey, I see him around Carlton from time to time.

  • Despite the Earthquakes, we don't realise how proficious are the circumstances, Frederick!

  • @ozbob68 Oh and it's PROPITIOUS. Look it up.

  • Richard Prebble is, of course, mad.

  • If you’d like to see another vid on kiwiana, then watch WORLD WONDER FROM DOWN UNDER World Wonder From Down Under - A bloody good Piwi the Kiwi video by Deanius DaGenius.

WARNING: Some of the language used is NOT politically correct. May offend Namby Pambies, Hoity Toities and other weak-minded bastards!

  • Sheriff little Doodle fired a shot at you whoooooo woooooo!

  • nah, I recon you crazy Kiwis really don't know how lucky you are! Love to all the gumboots loving sheep screwing pavolova eating "she'll be right mate" crazy crazy Kiwis! LOVE YOU TO DEATH! xoxoxox

  • Yes New Zealand is Gods own..

  • I think now we do know how lucky we are

  • WE DON'T KNOW HOW LUCKY WE ARE ......NO LIVES WERE LOST IN THE CHRISTCHURCH EARTHQUAKE!!!!!!!

  • @jump3kiwi Yes! How propitious are the circumstances.

  • I miss Auntie Helen. and sportscafe XD

  • I miss Auntie Helen.

  • John Morrison Clarke (born 29 July 1948) is a comedian, writer, and satirist. He was born in Palmerston North, New Zealand, but has lived in Australia since the 1970s. He is a regular actor and writer on Australian TV.

Not so lucky as to actually see the need to spend much time in New Zealand, it would seem.

  • I just googled my last name and got to this link lol

  • And why is this not our national anthem???

  • I love this city.. I love nz! put cho hands up for NZ!

  • yea go new zealnad lol

  • Isn't that Marc Ellis playing the drums? i think he is a genius!

  • @banana0dance It's the whole panel of Sportscafe, I can see Lana on keyboards, Graeme on guitar and Eric on bass.

  • i'm homesick now!!!!!!

  • Im a kiwi living in scotland, this makes me homesick.

  • Transplant Kiwi, love it

  • To clarify, I am not one of the people that Mr Muldoon was taking aim at.

  • Mr Muldoon dont u mean piggy

  • A wise man once said: New Zealanders who emigrate to Australia raise the IQ of both countries.

Look closely, and therein shall lie your answer 68gnome.

  • So elliott you therefore could not have been the said person but one of the Australain already living here, where in I emigrated from NZ to Oz therefore I must be smarter than You Elliott!!!! lol lol lol

  • @elliott6178 Could only agree with you as far as John Clarke doing us the honour of coming to our shores, the man is a genius.

  • Comment removed

  • Please explain then why so many New Zealanders are moving to Australia?????????

  • @68gnome to fix them

  • @68gnome - in a word, charity. Someone has to look after our poor soft-headed Aussie neighbours.

  • Climate, Higher wages (both numerically greater and cost of living is down), adventure (its the only place you can go from nz, at first).

Ask why we eventually come back after a few years...?

  • It's true, us kiwis don't don't how lucky we are.

  • I miss Helen

  • nz real national anthem

  • Who the f**k is Hellen?

  • THANKS FOR THE SUPPORT.

  • Sorry mate, I wasn't support you. I was just taking the piss.

  • Here's the alternative words

I was down the Plough and Chequebook the night before last

There's a guy down there on the floor with his brain at half-mast

I said "You're looking really bad mate your eyes look like strings"

He says "Get me an eight will you please I can't see a thing"

We don't know how lucky we are, mate

We don't know how lucky we are

  • There must be another version of this song because I distinctly remember a verse where one of Fred's mates had children eaten by a whale, Fred asked him if he was ever going fishing again and he 'Right on the nail"

  • We aren't as well off as the rest of the world.. YEAH RIGHT

  • Meaning?

  • NZ is the best place to live (:

  • I suppose that's why John Clarke now lives in Melbourne;)

  • As new zealanders leave to live in aus, australia's national I.Q average goes down, and New Zealands goes up :)

  • Hey the act is really coming along. You ought to be on the stage, the next one out of town

  • I'm here till tuesday. 2019

  • No time off for good behaviour then?

  • he always lived as far away from hellen as he could that is why he never lived with her

  • Good thing for her that her last name isn't 'Back" Imagine having a name like Hell and back.

  • Funniest comedian of all time. I love this.

  • You dont know how lucky you are to be drinking Speights in this country

  • NZ PROUD :)

  • Aww ya gotta luv being a Kiwi

  • love it. so proud to b kiwi

  • so true. we are so unique.

  • John Clarke is the greatest gift New Zealand has given Australia, thank you'se HEAPS!

  • Comment removed

  • y'know, this song could work for the whole world nowadays

  • that's a pretty selfish comment mr skel8tor from New Zealand... =/

  • wtf?

  • @Suparnovah .. maybe selfish ..or it could be VERY TRUE.

  • @Suparnovah Why is it a selfish comment?... I think it is wrong but not selfish because how could this song work for the whole world? New Zealand's way better off then most countries. This song explains it all and his comment just enforced it, We don't know how lucky we are!

  • @Suparnovah What I meant was, planet earth is a fairly good thing (and unique) in this universe, and most humans don't appreciate it, or even notice. We don't know how lucky we are.

When u grow up with the legends of Maui, hearing Fred Dagg's superb colloquial re-working of it, made me...emotional.

Maybe english is ur 2nd language and 'selfish' wasn't quite the word u wanted, thats ok mr suparnovah from russia :)

  • @Suparnovah In which way?

  • you're a muppet.

  • well if John Clark was ever selected as an ALL BLACK we would have no further problems -- yeah right

  • Comment removed

  • @skel8tor

    mate

you don't know lucky you are

  • @skel8tor bahah as if.... your dreaming mate

  • Kiwis, you don't know how lucky you are! One of the World's greatest nations!

  • na bro,we actually do..

  • Of course we do, who else would come up with l&p?

  • 1:20 Ponsonby rd!!

  • 1:06 is Auckland Art Gallery too

  • Looks like Motueaka to me

  • hahaah helen clark looks so awkward

  • it looks like mark ellis

  • Haha . . was that Mark Ellis on the Drums?

  • i thought that too

  • that guys wife looks like halen clark

  • it is isn't it?

  • And if it were not for our gumboots, Fred, where would we be?

  • love this song !!!!!

i've traveled round abit for gymnastics and new zealand is the best place ever !!!!!!!close following is canada though

  • We don't how lucky we are, mate, we don't know how lucky we are... I love this song man!

  • been in oz for 1 year moving back to nz in7 weeks cant wait ,getting sick of the sheep shagger jokes the grass isnt greener over here

  • The best country in the world bar none.....and he's dead right, we don't know how lucky we are....I've lived here 11 years and thank god every day that I'm priviliged to be here.

  • Not dead, just moved to Australia.

Insert your own joke about how thats just as bad here.

  • i like the original lyrics better than these (:

  • hehe, you lot do know that almost as many aussies move to new zealand as vice versa

  • australias slightly on top of Nz as far as wages and cost/standard of living goes, but thats it (except the weather), Nz is so much less puritan an restictive than we are in Aussie, i cant see my self still living in Australia 10 years from now, but NZ? Far better chance

  • Maybe if you stopped BANNING EVERYTHING!

NZ has three stages of law:

    1)you're OK (legal)

2)Thats a bit naughty, but I like you

    3) stop that RIGHT NOW! (illigal)

Australia on the other hand only has two:

    1) I'd stop you if I could (legal)

    2) youre getting fined/going to jail (illigal)

Where's the criminal spirit your country was founded on?

  • you got that mixed around

  • thats funny as hell

  • I wish I lived in NZ,I've always thought so.Lucky? Perhaps. Better? Maybe.

Whatever shade of green is greenest to you,I guess.

I won't say why in public in the US,that ought to say enough.

  • old fred dagg ae what ever happen to him?

  • hi... he Lives in Australia, I believe?

  • If kiwis are so lucky why do so many of them (including John Clarke AKA Fred Dagg) live in Australia?

  • Mate, I know one Aussie who reckons we're dead lucky.

Ricky Stuart. Fair suck of the sav mate.

And they go because, you never really truly appreciate your country until you've lived else where.

I loved the series he did about the Olympics over your side of the ditch but.

  • To keep up their rep of stealing NZ'eds stuff!

  • Austrailia is still regarded as the land of Opportunity to many Kiwi's, a large amount of kiwi's move to Oz each year, better life style, weather, wages? family.

  • because we're lucky enough that our citizenship enables us to easily emigrate.

  • Love ihht

We dont now how lucky we are in NZ

  • maaaaate

  • New Zealand's true nation anthem.

  • Well, if a corka little gem like this can't bring a country together then I don't know what can. I wish we had an Aussie equivalent over here.

  • Cor Richard Prebble looks like a muppet in this video

  • no we dont know know how lucky we are.

  • nz is the best

  • cracker mate :)

  • Get rid of youth gangs, Helen Clark and the constant banning of fun stuff. then well be ok

  • Try commenting on the actual video rather than current politics.

  • Okay.John Clarke is our greatest ever comedian. He hasn't lived here for 30 years.Enough said.

  • I agree entirely.Less perceptive people may disagree.they are ignorant and stupid.I would laugh at them, except when they realise they too have been shafted by the our "leaders",it will be far too late.we will all suffer together!.

  • Tino Pai Bro, good shit!

  • If anyone dosen't like New Zealand they need to get their eyes cheeked!!!

  • Or indeed their cheeks eyed!

  • iv never understood why anyone would want to live anywhere else but here

  • why wouldn't you want to live in New Zealand? do we piss anyone of? no. do we start wars? no. Are we an eco-friend, nuclear-free country? yup. Is the friendly new zealand attitude not warming to foreigners? yeah! does new zealand have some of the most beautiful scenery? yeah!!!

  • I know of no people on earth who hates Kiwis. NOBODY!

  • the ones we beat in rugby!

  • Who? the Springboks LOL

  • even if it is a satire, this place is going 2 the dogs FAR more slowly than any other place. auzzies alredy getting terrorism, id rather be glad with wat ive got than complain. and yea if it is going 2 the dogs, then move. but i aint complaining

  • Wow, some famous new zealand faces in that video, been years since I have seen it, forgotte who was in it. XD

*Proud Kiwiw* though, granted, at times I wish I could leave, these days its just hard to live,Aussie has a little more opertunity for people then we do right now...

  • NZ is heaven on earth

  • wow, ur all so wrong haha. i live in a real poor suburb in the highest crime rated city in nz but i fuking love it here! and ur saying theres none of that fred dag type flair anymore but it looks 2 me like ur looking in the wrong places!! if u think this place is going 2 the dogs shame on u!!

  • Doesn't matter if your believe it or not, JOHN CLARK SAID ON NATIONAL TV IT IS SATTIRICAL. That makes it so - because he bloody well wrote it. Why do you think he moved to Auzzie??

  • haha well there u go i guess u cant argue with that. well i no wer im staying.

  • Wat a legend

  • whooooooo yay!

  • wow uncle helen was a fox back then...

  • MR Fred Dagg! LEGEND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This remake of the 30 year old original has lost the plot somewhat. Half the people in this remake were not born when Fred and the Trevours burst on the scene in the '70s. Maybe someone has an original to post?

When is YouTube going to run a spellchecker to reject idiotic swearing, as kids love Fred Dagg and Gumboots. Come on viewers, keep it clean!

  • If they wanted to they could

  • Touche, are some people so stupid they cant express themselfs without being foul? - oh no now they will have to use foul langauage to tell me they arent stupid? misnomer.......

  • fred dagg is omg the best!!!!!!!!! watch gumboots lol!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! W00T go the KIWIS!!!!!!!!!!!(and allblacks) if u dont like em, SHUN THE NON BELIEVERS!!!!!!!!!!(courtesy of charlie the unicorn, i mean the line lol)

  • nz rock

  • this song rules nz all the way!!

and if u think othewise u suk mighty balls!

  • u r so rite

  • All the NZ icons...the sheep, the beehive...Auckland Airport?? AND our best friend (not) Helen Clark(ew)...

  • i love Auckland airport, its one of the world's nicer airports, thet give you free tea and cofiee when you arive form overseas, and they have cute beagles for sniffer dogs.

I still think the adverage Kiwi pub is a bit shit though.

  • haha u musta gone 2 a shit pub, check out the red fox next time ur round these parts.

  • this stuff is not shit..it's the work of a genius...are you even from NZ?

  • exactly if u havnt been then you wouldnt have a fuckn clue, so where r u from????

  • u mite hav a clue about music, but its not like hes trying 2 impress people with vocal ability is he??? so y take it so seriously???

  • This bawdy pub song came out back in the 70s, it certainly doesn't relate what NZ is like now. It's basically only got scenery going for it now, though even that's fast disappearing as land is sold off to rapacious developers. And rich, ugly, glass, concrete and steel are going up everywhere ruining wild vistas, while the average working kiwi like self can't now afford a small house. And believe me, in it's 'rugby racing & beer' attitude its a lonely hole at the end of the world, (cont'd)

  • i dont think so mate, i fuking love this country and ur probably just judging it on wat uv seen. i live here and i know

  • I live here and i know too, what I said... especially over many years...

  • (reply to s8nigga cont'd pt2) for a person with deep feelings and emotions (which is an unwritten crime for a guy to have) will just tell you to 'smile an be happy' and all the tired banal clichés that mean nothing to reality. Also it doesn't spare much for heritage. I'm leaving it soon, thankfully. Maybe its isolation to rest of world causes this narrow mindset non-introspective attitudes that all should think the same.
