  • At the time I lived in Toccoa in the 90's, I did some research work as part of an Urban Archaeology study of the school and the remainder of the dam. In places you can still see watermarks on the trees, and there is still debris in some areas. If I remember correctly, this dam break was one of the ones which led to the banning of earthen dams of the size.

  • How many people got killed by the radiation (or explosion) in Fukushima... None ! Never say me anymore, nuclear power plants are too dangerous.

  • My short time there was a year of magic, the spring in 76 was like a living dream , would walk the hills ,and paths of the area evry Sunday after service , and lunch. I was there the evening of the flood to visit , and left for home , early the next mornning I was told about the damn break. I lost some friends there, I have revisited many times , it is always a bitter sweet memory.

@ deepspire , I am a Sabbatarian ,G-D did not strike anyone, your love is of low value to Yahweh,

  • ...And Thor smote the lowly followers of the false god Yahweh.

  • @deepspire Aww, childish Atheist trolls are so adorable.

  • @Supermassively You are an atheist if you don't believe in Thor.

  • thanks, when I was there for the first time this week, I got the idea it is not a flaming liberal school from the pond sign listing rules like, No two piece bathing suits,,

  • @JazzKeyboardist1 It's a christian bible college...that's why there are no two piece bathing suits allowed. We are conservative.

  • @threegirlpeaches ,,,,,,,,,,,thanks,,,I can understand that a college student might not be able to infer that when I stated, "its not a flaming liberal school",,I would not guess that it is conservative,,,thanks for clearing that up,,,lol

  • The (original) Music is "Samuel Barber - Adagio for Strings, op.11"

  • My mother was just telling me about this and how sad it was when it happened, also my uncle was attending school there when it happened

  • I was a student at Toccoa in 1966 through 1967, and believe me, God was there then, and I was there this past July. God is still there!!!!!

  • Music please?

  • that music... its so... eerily lovely

  • toccoa falls IS a damn failure

  • this is sad :(

  • Was there a movie done about this with Susan Serandon? I remember her in a movie about a flood where a lot of young people died on school busses. It was one of the saddest, horror movies I'd ever seen. This is tragic.

  • @LiCeNSeD6To9KiLL Not the same flood. I remember the movie you are talking about, but can't remember the name of it. The TFC flood happened at night when most people were in bed. Had it not been so early in the morning, most people wouldn't have been in their homes and there would not have been so many deaths. However, as a student there, I can tell you that this college is very strong and resilient. We have been through fire and water and have come out glorious on the other side of both.

  • I go to this college now and it's amazing how much God is here on this campus and how beautiful it still is or maybe is more beautiful because of this flood. I have read the book three or four times and the strength and faith in God that the people had then is still evident and just as strong if not stronger now.

@ lefas123456789...a flood like that can never happen here again. The dam was never rebuilt and the lake was never filled again and now is filled with trees again.

  • @threegirlpeaches youre an idiot and a failure at life. god may or may not exist. prove he does. please.

  • @TFCsataniccult With your nickname, I find it humorous that you were bashing on an apparently Christian post from before. Yet your name suggests otherwise. If you question the existence of God, how do you not question Satan's existence when your name makes mention of a "satanic cult"? Interesting indeed. That's like saying light doesn't exist but darkness does, and bashing on someone for believing light exists...while all your faith is in darkness. Quite hypocritical.

  • @jmr1068204 He's just a troll. Why bother with him?

  • @TFCsataniccult Prove he doesn't. Please.

  • I was 5 years old when this happened. I remember that it had rained heavy for days. I was staying with my grandparents at the time and vividly remember the phone ringing in the middle of the night and my grandfather, who was the mayor of Toccoa at the time, rushing out to the falls, and the sadness of everyone the days that followed.

  • The book Dam Break In Georgia has forever changed my life. I have been a Christian for a couple of years but now I pray that if I ever have to go through something like that my faith is strong enough to pull me through. Thank you to whomever posted this and sorry for the disrespectful comments that people feel necessary to leave. God Bless

  • It's Bush's fault!

  • @liam786024 Typically hateful, venomous, vulgar Atheist trash.

  • I need actual footage of the actual dam breaking. I need live footage. Please post a better video.

  • Are you Crazy?

  • I sure that somebody was there in the middle of the night, standing in the rain, in Novemeber with a camcorder filiming the dam braking just so they could post it on Youtube 32 years later just for you.

  • My family and I were just visiting the falls. I was reading the signage dedicated to the tragedy and couldn't imagine that much water. It is a wonder anyone survived.

  • My family remembers when it happened my sister lost most of her friends on that day she was 9 yrs old. My cousin was in the hospital and said it sounded like a train the night that it broke.

  • There is a book available called Dam Break in Georgia

  • I remember this.

    RIP

  • i hope it will never happen again

  • Please see my comment at the top of the comments:)

  • I live in toccoa, and there is still places where you can see the damage from the flood.

  • My Grandpa worked for the state department back then. He was called out out the night it broke. After searching all night and days later. He found the very last recovered body...

  • @loganmx5 I know you posted the comment 2 years ago, but what was your grandpa's name

  • thanks for this post. very hard to find any info--let alone pictures--of this disaster. i dont even remember this happening back in 77, but just recently found out about it when our family visited toccoa falls.

  • I was there when it happened. I'll never forget the lost lives two floors below me in the mens' dorm and the smell.

  • cool . . . i had never seen pictures online. thanks for that. i lived in Toccoa a few years ago for about 3 yrs.
