Im not a super athletic or awesome basketball player, but I think alot of it is muscle memory. In the gym when I play, I get alot of people sticking hand in my face or pretending to foul you, but as long as I can see the hoop for 1 second, I just know how to release it and pray that it goes in. With Kobe, its prolly killer instincts and he is my favorite player in the NBA right now so battier is merely a fly messing with the immortal.
For the retard who said "Putting Your hand in their face like that is a foul" its not... no physical contact. my coach tells me to do that all the time. unless he's punching him in the face, or pimp smackin him... its not a foul. its just good D.
It's impossible to make your hand go in some1s face untill they've already released the ball. Sometimes when you're to far away to block some1 it is a good idea to put your hand in their face and not let them see the ball go in the hoop though.
Honestly I don't know why players try to cover the face. I always have a tougher time shooting when they go for the block. A lot of times it messes up me stroke and I feel like I have to adjust my shot to avoid the block.
i hate to sound like a kobe hater but there's really nothing special about this....once kobe goes up he already knows where his target is( as does every NBA player), shanes' hand is not bothering him....it would be great defense if he makes him take an off balanced shot but kobe is still shooting in rhythm
@ryan49er1 : well every shot kobe shoots has about a 45% chance of going in but as you can see in this video he releases the ball & then shane puts his hand up....whether he puts his hand up or not it's either going in or not, it has nothing to do with shanes hand.
battier is a great defender..... i mean he just proves that not only strength makes a good defender....
i mean you watch him play D and you see.... its just basic fundamentals....
he bends his knees, stays in front of the offensive player, and obviously he has mastered contesting shots as you can see his hand is about a millimeter away from kobes nose
I'd totally be for Kobe incorporating all the cheap moves from every player in the league.. Pierce/Paul's exacerbation of contact on the perimeter , D-Wade's falling down routine after a drive, Reggie Millers leg kickout.. every single cheap trick.
He'd be the most hated player in the league (big deal.. he already is anyways) but he'd be a lot more efficient since refs do tend to call those in the advantage of the offensive player more times than not.
thats actually against the rules to shove your hand in a shooters face like that(to face guard) but recently the refs aint been calling it a foul and more and more players do it...and the reason it should be a foul because your body will automatically react to something coming at your face especially your eyes(well unless your kobe dont seem to phase him at all)
This is true.. if I'm Kobe and the refs aren't calling those then I'd start faking eye injuries and actually seek out contact with his hands to the face while taking long shots.
Too bad Kobe plays by the rules way too often.. low iq.
yea your right kobe doesnt take advantage of cheap things that the refs either dont notice or dont call but people who dont watch it thinks that kobe fakes like he's hurt to draw fouls...but he really doesnt...but if your sayin his bball iq is low i disagree with that he has one of the highest iq's ever as well is deadly fundamentals he's just a man and doesnt want anything if he dont earn it
@BettaWithToast Plus what if the defender accidently actually does touch the face? Then the offensive player is worrried about getting hit for the rest of the game.
@BettaWithToast Well, we all know from the Barnes fake, Kobe doesn't flinch at bullshit. Sorry if someone posted that already, I'm not scrolling through the comments.
@BettaWithToast I like your comment but the 'face guard' is allowed in the NBA as long as there is no contact to any part of the head. I think its illegal in FIBA or Olympics though. NBA has different set of rules that's why when it's Olympics time, USA team also practice with the different set of rules and guidelines like putting an arm while defending at the post.

it's called proprioception.. knowing your shot through what muscle stimulus and body awereness... the best players can shoot with their eyes closed

That's cause basketball players are looking for a hoop, not anything else while the shot.
