Robert Malthus said that the human race will ultamitly over populate and that the only way to solve this issue is to have wars famin it suck to say this but our world learders have been arraticating us for over more then a century. Now there next face is to control our very way of life till the point of destruction human population till mill numbers. The next few decades most people wont try to make a living they will be trying to survive it. good luck to all.

Forty years ago, over-population was described as the greatest problem facing humanity. Since then, the world's population has DOUBLED, .. and the issue has fallen way down the agenda.

WHY?

My guess is that not only does an increased population obviously mean more need, it also means more market opportunities and chance for profit.

Business will never concede the harm occurring as long as the problem also equates with profit.

bencubed: Your guess is right. More people means more consumption and more taxes. But the basic reason is morals. Introduced by religions and taken as a secret law. On this planet all life is growing until it hits its limits. The best proof that people are animals, because we're following the same stupid natural law as ants or even yeast. The problem with mankind is that we dont have any threats against us anymore and very effective tools.

I liked the video but I just think it'll never happen. Humans are too selfish to work together. Never mind international cooperation, we have our own politicians at home arguing over how to handle the situation.

I also saw the video on overpopulation. I liked that too but felt it was impossible too without terribly strict laws on child creation like those in China. America would never want to reduce its population. If America did and China didn't, America would be an easier military target. :(

This is right. I've acted to make sure that my business will never grow. I focus on sustaining a regular flow of business and providing a good service to my customer base. I'm convinced that this is the best way to go and sustains my lifestyle, which I keep simple. Everyone can do this. Go for it!

People, I really want ALL of our children to have a good life. Let's have no more than 2 kids. Educate them, love them, feed them well and teach them sustainable values. 2 kids is a good number. Our kids future depends on it! There's no reason to have 3+ kids. I don't care if your finances can support a third child. The planet can not.

The 30 year olds now have two kids and 30 years later, they each have two kids, you're still talking about exponential growth, which is unsustainable. A better policy seems to be to have no children at all or one at the very most.

If everybody has only two kids, then there's no exponential growth, because every two persons who die will leave only two persons after them.

That's only true if the parents don't live long after the children are born. If the parents long enough to see their grandchildren born at the same rate, population does grow exponentially.

Well, that's not true. Mathematically if people live forever and every couple has only two children, (create two children, and then live forever), the population will grow lineary, not exponentially. If however people die, then in this case increase in population may be possible only if life expectancy increases or if people begin heaving children earlier. In that case the increase won't continue, it will be a transitionally only.

I am repetedly told that it all comes down to an unequal distribution of wealth in the world. On some internet pages you learn that you may pack earth's entire population into Texas AND feed them.

Even if it was true: WHY would I want to live in a world where everything is rationed to a bare minimum and every move has to run super efficient just to keep up a miserable life?

I propose a policy to ecourage rich people to have many children and poor people to have only one child.
