You can install custom applications and games on it. You're basically removing protection that Apple put on it so you can use it however you want.

skategecko - does the program say your need it? or your computer? if your computer says it search it in google and it will be a free download. if you restore your ipod touch, you will lose everything and therefore have to do this process again and install all your apps etc. i dont know why it froze?? try and download the new ziphone or his website.

Same thing happened to me but I fixed the problem by restoring it with itunes and jailbreak again. Just don't install any apps or games with the red button before installation to stay away from harming your ipod.

EdGgOt - I'm pretty shore, you wont lose all of your data. I'm not shore about wether you will lose your installed apps, NES ROMS etc. But can i ask why do you need to upgrade to 1.1.4? If it's working fine on 1.1.3 and until the SDK comes out (June most likely), why the upgrade?

triplej528 - No, you wont lose any of the pre-installed apps. Somehow either itunes or your ipod remembers that there installed. I can guarantee they will stay. The refurbish method may/may not be. I would suggest doing a 'restore' in iTunes back to 1.1.4. Apple wont be able to tell whether it was jailbroken or not. So if there ever was a problem, dont worry they wont be able to tell.

turnerisdabest - this could occur for up to 45-50mins its still jailbreaking just let it finish. If you think its frozen, then you should 'restore' your iPod to 1.1.4

oh ok, fair enough. Glad your iPod is much more than an iPod now :) Yes this method should work, however when you download ZiPhone dont keep clicking jailbreak. At the top there is a button which says 'Do It All' This button will jailbreak, activate and unlock your phone. It will also downgrade the bootloader if it's v4.6. Thanks

gwya - this is the problem that i talked about and had at first also. You will have to manually enter you ipod into DFU mode (Hold Power and Home button, the iPod should now re- boot. Open iTunes and wait for it to tell you in restore mode.) restore to firmware 1.1.4. Then follow my method again, keep clicking jailbreak! Until you are show your past the BSD root error.

xsmagic - the case i bought was from jb-hi-fi, overly priced. Buy one of ebay, search 'ipod touch silicon case'. good price.

guitarragg - if your ipod touch is on firmware 1.1.4 perfect. It doesn't need to be previously jailbroken at all. It will work perfectly as long as you follow the instructions, you don't need to downgrade or anything.
