the nerf was a reduction in centre speed of the grib also when Warlording Grip & rapid fire (Sluty easy noob mode) the grip would fight the added recoil from the RF making the Recoil very umpredictable
This gun used to be good until fucking idiots started bitching about it because they couldn't outdo it. The fact is, the 74u was SUPPOSED to be the best SMG because it's a modified ASSAULT RIFLE. It fires 5.56mm rounds, whereas other SMGs fire handgun rounds. It's bullshit how it now has practically the same range as the fucking shotguns.
@ShadowRSonic The ak 74 actually fires the 5.45x39 round which is the soviet version of the 5.56.The soviets saw how good the 5.56 round was doing in Vietnam that they decided to make their own version of it. Which came out in 1974 which is why the weopon is called the ak74 rather than the ak47.

I find it odd that they even classified the AK-74U as an SMG since in real life it is just a slightly more compact version of the AK-74 assault rifle with a folding stock. Also, it fires the same 5.45x39mm rifle round as the AK-74 and since the definition of SMG states that it has to fire a handgun caliber round it just makes less sense. I just think it's odd that Treyarch would list it as an SMG when it is clearly an AR and then still give it AR characteristics anyway.
the problem that most people had this this gun was its range. It had the same range as that of the assault rifles which makes it overpowered for its specific class its in, If it was in the assault rifle class instead of the SMG class not as many people would care. As treyarch was tring to make the guns more balance.

I found that when I used the 74u, the nerfing definitely showed. I still see it used lots though, so either the nerfing hasn't been as effective as everyone thinks, or the noobs who use it aren't smart enough to figure out that their gun might be the reason why they're failing so much.

Call of Duty should focus on limiting the assault rifles and smgs. SMG's with too much range and AR's with too good of close range capabilities are usually the most overpowered guns. For example, the UMP was a 2-3 shot kill at any range with stopping power, the MP40 was a 2-3 shot kill at any range even without stopping power. The Famas has WAY to high of a rate of fire to be balanced with the pretty terrible other SMGs in black ops

I don't agree that the gun is over powered, I just think it's easiest gun for nubs to pick up and do well with (what with the increased dmg, grip, steady aim and all) which gives it such a bad wrap. However, the shooter is more important than the gun. I've seen people go on ridiculous killstreaks with the enfield and skorpion when they couldn't kill anything with a commando because they said those guns "feel better". L2P CoD and stop whining. The only gun I have a problem with is the L96A1, they need to remove the massive idle sway on that shit. You can't even hardscope for christ sake. Not only did they take off quickscoping buteven hardscopingis now a challenge. Josh Olin is an imbecile.
@o0OCognizanceO0o with some of the patches they have given, i find it really easy to quickscope now, and hardscoping is one of the easiest things in the game to do other than spraying a gun while running around corners, the only problem with any sniper is that its straight up luck with blindfires half the time at close range even if the body takes up the whole reticle
@kilertrumpet I suppose you are correct in that regards. My left analog stick IS broken. It's actually more effective that I quickscope than hardscope. The problem is that the sway range is significant enough that precision quickscoping is inconsistent. Combine that with the fact that you zoom in slowly and the accuracy of the L96A1 or lack of, it makes for a frustrating experience. This is evidenced by popular YT snipers going back to previous installments of the game. Peace.
@o0OCognizanceO0o um i dont know who your watching, but they must be pretty horrible snipers even if they're popular because i constantly quickscope unless im going for a long-range shot and still hit almost all my shots (have over 50% accuracy with the L96 with over half my kills quickscopes)
Personally, I find the AK74u is not AS overpowered as it once was. Where using any other submachine gun before wasn't practical, it is now viable to switch between and try using different ones. I would still give it a minor edge over the rest of them though.
@The1Camshaft the 74u was probably the most balanced in cod4 since the recoil was managable and still had a slower fire rate than other smg an was actually noticeable unlike now where every smg can fire over 10 rounds per second so its not as big of a deal to use any of them except that the ak has more damage and range than the rest

Sure, cod 4 was a great game and MW2 sucked- just because Black ops followed, it doesn't mean it is equally as bad. A step in the right direction, in fact. I felt the story was interesting (although seemed like a copy of the Manchurian Candidate) and the multiplayer has been improved with the removal of pointless perks.

You're right, Black Ops had obviously a much better concept than MW2 due to the removal of the game breaking factors. BUT... it is still inferior. Simply due to the fact that Treyarch HORRIBLY failed at the netcode and basic game mechanics. I'm not exaggerating, it is proven the game drops the frame rate during the multiplayer down to around 45 fps, especially when the game calculates hits.

I don't agree that the gun is over powered, I just think it's easiest gun for nubs to pick up and do well with (what with the increased dmg, grip, steady aim and all) which gives it such a bad wrap. However, the shooter is more important than the gun. I've seen people go on ridiculous killstreaks with the enfield and skorpion when they couldn't kill anything with a commando because they said those guns "feel better". L2P CoD and stop whining. (not to the comentator, to the comments)

The only gun I have a problem with is the L96A1, they need to remove the massive idle sway on that shit. You can't even hardscope for christ sake. Not only did they take off quickscoping buteven hardscopingis now a challenge. Josh Olin is an imbecile.

@o0OCognizanceO0o with some of the patches they have given, i find it really easy to quickscope now, and hardscoping is one of the easiest things in the game to do other than spraying a gun while running around corners, the only problem with any sniper is that its straight up luck with blindfires half the time at close range even if the body takes up the whole reticle

@kilertrumpet I suppose you are correct in that regards. My left analog stick IS broken. It's actually more effective that I quickscope than hardscope. The problem is that the sway range is significant enough that precision quickscoping is inconsistent. Combine that with the fact that you zoom in slowly and the accuracy of the L96A1 or lack of, it makes for a frustrating experience. This is evidenced by popular YT snipers going back to previous installments of the game. Peace.

@o0OCognizanceO0o um i dont know who your watching, but they must be pretty horrible snipers even if they're popular because i constantly quickscope unless im going for a long-range shot and still hit almost all my shots (have over 50% accuracy with the L96 with over half my kills quickscopes)

Personally, I find the AK74u is not AS overpowered as it once was. Where using any other submachine gun before wasn't practical, it is now viable to switch between and try using different ones. I would still give it a minor edge over the rest of them though.

@The1Camshaft the 74u was probably the most balanced in cod4 since the recoil was managable and still had a slower fire rate than other smg an was actually noticeable unlike now where every smg can fire over 10 rounds per second so its not as big of a deal to use any of them except that the ak has more damage and range than the rest

1:Super fire rate
2:It has vertical recoil(easy to spray)
3:Good at Long, Medium, and Short distance
4:Has more damage than some of the other AR's

@megatroll I agree it's annoying when little kids play this game, but the game itself doesn't have that much wrong with it. Sure, cod 4 was a great game and MW2 sucked- just because Black ops followed, it doesn't mean it is equally as bad. A step in the right direction, in fact. I felt the story was interesting (although seemed like a copy of the Manchurian Candidate) and the multiplayer has been improved with the removal of pointless perks.

Wow, finally someone who actually is capable of leading a reasonable argumentation. You're right, Black Ops had obviously a much better concept than MW2 due to the removal of the game breaking factors. BUT... it is still inferior. Simply due to the fact that Treyarch HORRIBLY failed at the netcode and basic game mechanics. I'm not exaggerating, it is proven the game drops the frame rate during the multiplayer down to around 45 fps, especially when the game calculates hits.

the famas and aug are too strong up close it can easily outgun a SMG wich is BS
and the famas with a silencer barely has any recoil

this range nerf pissed me off big time. i still use the 74u though. i just don't go on the sprees i used to. i throw the rapid fire and the grip on it and she's good to go. still the best weapon. unless you're running the famas with silencer.

Yeah the aug or famas can easily counter the 74u. The famous do seem to get two shot kills sometimes but I think is the rate of fire or the enemy has been stunned, or something in that nature.
