This was before all of the racist/backward "dixie crats" bailed on the Democratic party for the GOP.
It was a combination of their feeling alienated over the increasing role Democrats were having in aggressively pursuing civil rights legislation, and Nixon's "southern strategy", which would cement these people as an integral part of the Republican base, a situation which endures to today.
So you're technically right, though today this demographic is Republican.
This statement brings to mind a concept conservatives sometime like bring up regarding liberal Democrats: "The soft bigotry of low expectations". If you want to contemplate Democrats as racist in a harder, rawer form, consider: Allegations 39th prez & ordained minister JAMES EARL Carter played the race card in advertising during a race for governor of Georgia, appealing to the basest primal fear of Negros. More recently, 42nd prez Bill Clinton:accused of routinely using the "N" word in Arkansas
Specifically, among the allegations coming out of "Troopergate", in which Arkansas State Troopers Larry Patterson & Roger Perry allege Bill Clinton used Arkansas State Police 2 arrange sexual liaisons, was the charge that the lovely first couple, Bill & HiILLary, routinely used racial slurs. Particularly, "nigger" to describe African-American adversaries they were angry with (like Jesse Jackson) during the 1992 campaign. Since Tupac has been invoked, why not Bill Clinton's Sister Souljah moment?
The inflammatory lyrics of rap artist Sister Souljah (born Lisa Williamson in 1964, Bronx, New York) were singled out by Bill Clinton during the 1992 presidential campaign as symptomatic of social ills plaguing blacks. The thinking apparently: "Yeah, this sacrificial ninny will be perfect meat 4 hungry white conservatives". Then there's that "tough on crime" photo-op that drew the ire of blacks: Clinton, standing arms folded, with another southern governor, before dozens of mostly black inmates
And since GEORGIA has been invoked through Jimmy Carter, how about longtime U.S. Rep. Cynthia McKinney (D-GA; black) who was quoted during the 2000 campaign for president: "Al Gore's Negro tolerance level has never been too high. I've never known him to have more than one black person around him at any given time." Gore's campaign pointed out that its manager, Donna Brazile, was black. These are just a few examples, but this is America--the racial harmony hypocrisy list amongst pols goes on.
@GWhiz99 uh strange I live in Arkansas...... P.S. where not all hillbilly's but there is rednecks! and if you what to find out if your a redneck just check you neck!
It is an outrage that his killers have not been brought to justice and there is no campaign to bring about that end. Are the killers themselves dead, maybe, are those who instigated it dead, I doubt it.
Agreed. So what if he retracted his beliefs in his later years? I don't give a f***. What he said when was younger is what people are gonna remember him for
No Elvis is really dead, but Tupac is not. And there is nothing funny about it, if you knew what was going on back when pac was around and before he left and slightly after he was gone.

The best approach is to forgive but never forget what he did in the 60's and hope that it never happens again

Well, the asshole DESERVED to get shot.

Try telling that to all the blacks Wallace had beaten and thrown into prison

Okay. If anything, it applies to them most. Anyone who lets themselves be perverted by the evil of another has given them two victories.
