I would be surprised if NBC's coverage began a little less than seven minutes before liftoff.
I suspect that this clip began with the start of the live coverage, then jumped ahead an hour or more until the final three minutes or so of the countdown.
But it's great historical footage. Thanks for posting it!
Wow what a rare find! What I've never understood is why the Mercury PAO loops never included the air-to-ground as well. But I guess it was early days!
@ceredigio It was not until the Gemini program that NASA provided live audio from the spacecraft. Before, during Mercury, everything was on a few minutes delay.
I find it amazing that no YT idiots are claiming this is fake, hoaxed.

@boulderdsvo Liberty Bell 7 didn't go to the moon so they can't use their Van Allen Belt argument. Still, I disagree with them as well.

Excellent video! (I'd love to know how you got it.) It's such a kick to watch how the networks covered these flights back in the day.

I have the book "We Seven". Also several flight-worthy Mercury-Redstone models. Thank You!

I grew up with Apollo. Too young for Mercury. Man they made a lot of progress in less than a decade. Thanks for posting this.

It sounds like the opening announcer was Jack Costello.
