2) Australia won the match, This match ended in a draw.

Tendullkar has better technique, he scores more and averages more, Donalds Bradman compared himself to Tendulkar, better player of pace certainly, spin is debatable (Warne rates Tendulkar, Murali rates Lara) although Lanka suck and mr.Murali was destroyed in the CB series by the Indians. Its the failure of WI bowlers.
Lara is far greater dan Sachin in many aspects.

sub-continent and outside would be a better measure. He has 16(66 mchs, 113 inns) out of 42(159 mchs, 261 inns) centuries outside Asia (the sub-continent). Clearly his per match and inns ratio is worse outside. Even that 'away' average is 51.55 outside the sub-continent.

but i felt his inning was selfish as he spent more time in middle which affected the match n in end i was a draw, if lara was not the captain and would have declared the innings it would have saved lot of time tht would have given WI more chances to win the match

WI batted 202 overs while ENG batted a combined total of 236 overs in their two inns. Ian Chappell says the same thing. He rubbishes claims that WI batted too long and Lara was selfish. It was in fact, the inability of the bowlers and fielders (who dropped multiple catches) that resulted in the draw.

Lara isnt better than Tendulkar. Tendullkar has better technique, he scores more and averages more, Donalds Bradman compared himself to Tendulkar, better player of pace certainly, spin is debatable (Warne rates Tendulkar, Murali rates Lara) although Lanka suck and mr.Murali was destroyed in the CB series by the Indians. What else...Lara certainly hasnt picked up any wickets. Etc etc. Lara isnt the greatest so please. He has one better in terms of scoring big. But that doesnt mean he is better

My dear friend, I have been following International and West Indian cricket for over 30 years now - I know about the Windies team's strength right from the days of Frank Worrell, Walcott, Weekes, Sobers, Kanhai, openers, Greenidge, and Haynes, fast bowlers like Wes Hall, Charlie Griffith, Andy Roberts, Holding, Marshall, others like Lance Gibbs right down to the wonder years under Clive Lloyd, Kalicharan, and Viv Richards.

In tests, Tendulkar and Lara are head to head. It's difficult to say who's better, especially when they were both in the peak of their careers. I'd actually give Lara a slight edge over Tendulkar in the test arena just because he's played fewer matches and still has more runs.
Tendulkar beats Lara by a mile in ODIs, though. The stats even show it bc Tendulkar has a better average, higher highest score, more hundreds, and more fifties in ODIs.
Nonetheless both are champions. Theyre incomparable

If you look at averages then you're correct - they're both about toe-to-toe
ODI-wise Sachin has an advantage with 42 centuries compared to Lara's 19 (as of May, 08)
But it's about more than averages or strike rates, or tons - Lara is more poetic to watch and appears to have scored his runs against more difficult bowling
Sachin at least needs a triple century before I can seriously consider him a disciplined test player - Lara outstrips him here

Average difference in ODI's is more than 5. In Tests, it's almost 3. Do you know what the greatest cricketer of his era and the finest spinner Shane Warne says? Lara averages 40.48, Sachin averages 45.12, a difference of 4.64 runs in their average. Cricket 'bible' WISDEN rates Sachin the 2nd best Test batsman after Bradman and the 2nd best ODI batsman after Richards. He found a place even in Bradman's All Time XI team. He also found a place in Richie Benaud's All Time XI team. Lara couldn't find a place in either of those 2 teams.

I was there that day, sat in what is called the 'West Indies Oil' stand. Besides the amazing innings Antiguans only a few weeks before had finally managed to vote out of office a horribly corrupt government and replace them with something that was hopfully going to run the nation with a little more sense.
