@1337inzock This guy who made the video does not know what a real blizzard is, they should stick to tornadoes, they seem to not realize that 3 feet in one night and then 3 feet the next night and having a state of emergency in Michigan is a blizzard.
speaking of heavy snow...i was in the san bernardino mountains (in southern california) earlier this year and it snowed for about 24 hours straight...ground cover went from about one inch of icy crust to 25" +-1"
The NE coast if England and Scotland is getting more and mte profound to 'Sea effect snow' moses places averaged arous 50cm in 3 days. Tht is alot for England.
This almost like the snowstorm we had here in Grand Rapids last night. (February 1, 2011) only we received 16 inches of snow in less than 6 hours, complete with thunder and lighting. We were up at 3 a.m. watching it from our balcony. It was very cool. Also, I think I drove home from work in the storm in your video. Living in Michigan in the winter totally sucks!
This is an extreme blizzard in the U.S? Come join me for -55 degree's in 80 mile an hour winds with a fresh foot of snow every hour up hyar in Canada............ eh. T_T
your guys lives suck where i live in southeastern pennsylvania it doesnt snow an inch in december it doesnt snow at all in december and there are no avalanches no floods no mudslides no blizzards no tornadoes no hail no hurricanes this is the good life you guys must have broken backs from shoveling for years i can actually go bike riding all winter ever day
True mikeladd78, however you forgot to mention the innumerable hordes of mosquitoes that come out whenever it is actually warm enough to venture outside
@bg048 , As a Michigander i feel obligated to inform you that MI temps shift by well over 100 degrees throughout the year. It can hover around 90 in the summer, and very humid due to the countless lakes/rivers, and during winter -20, or colder, can be a nightly occurrence.
@mikeladd78 Good point, however you forgot to mention the innumerable hordes of mosquitoes that come out whenever it is actually warm enough to venture outside!
@mikeladd78 Good point, however you forgot to mention the innumerable hordes of mosquitoes that come out whenever it is actually warm enough to venture outside!
Lake effect is snow forming over the great lakes and moving west usually dumping lots of snowbecause it just keeps coming. Matter of fact im getting hit by some right now
@CANADASOCCERMAN13 A lake effect blizzard is snow formed from cold air moving over a warmer body of water, condensation forms clouds and produces lake effect snow, and causes heavy snow and wind for more than 24 hours.
It's worse now with WNY. We've had a LES Warning since 8AM 12.1 and it doesn't end til 6AM 12.3. We've received 3' so far and another foot is expected to come. All of this snow is expected to stay for the next couple of weeks because of highes near 30. Howdya think I feel?
Nice. I love snow but it starts to suck when you work in it everday. I live in the White Mountains of AZ and it snows a lot here. Hopefully this year it will be a mild one.
born and raised in the northern lower myself...I really have to think most of these 'storm videos" are from people who havent lived here long... or are from downstate....sorry....all blizzards (determined by windspeeds vs.amount of snow) are dangerous but I agree...snow opera...
@AvFcAston Lake Effect is all the snow that we get from the Great Lakes. The warm lakes often put enough humidity in the air to dump hundreds of inches of snow on their eastern sides each season.
Where I live right now we get around 300 inches sometimes(I live much further north though)
this is the exsact reason i live in florida right now i dodged this damn storm by 1200 miles sure i have to wrooy about hurricanes but hey at least it aint snow. hot air i can live thru i cant live thru freezing ass coldweather and where is he on alpine some wheres??? you cponsider this great footage?? you can see this every oct thru may good job dummy get out now!!
they the people in GR think there on the Lake Michigan coast too...very funny...Muskegon that is 35 miles north west and on the lake gets much more snow.............
Yo. I don't know if Minnesota gets more "real blizzards," but West Michigan gets way more snow than Minnesota. Of course the U.P. can get double or triple the amount that West Michigan gets. Michigan is way snowier than Minnesota, although you guys are much colder.

@parkman35 i know on the west coast like california and washington there is hundreds of inches of snow each year but no one lives where it snows so it doesnt ruin their day. i wonder why people live where it snows there
@parkman35 "you can only drink so much and screw so much."
are u kidding? me and my old lady have screwed so much over the years during these types of snowstorms that we now have 42 children....and there are 5 others that we don't even know where they came from.
I love it out here in ganges. Allegan county is where you should have gone. We got nailed 07 08 2 years in a row. These are some of my favorite evenings in michigan.
Because of lake effect snow, Southwestern Michigan grows the most amazing fruits, apples, peaches, cherries, even apricots, in the summer. The light, fluffy snow produced by winds and moisture crossing south over Lake Michigan is what protects the ground from a hard freeze and keeps fruit trees from being damaged. I used to pick peaches in Berrien County Michigan, and it's all because of lake effect snow. I guess you could say that it's a silver lining of sorts!
@stickershomeplus Uh, if you don't think that ground is frozen hard, I got news for ya . . . . .I'm in Southeast Michigan. Trust me, it's frozen solid until you get about 9 inches down.
Wish i had a camera, right now in boone nc, there are 70 mph wind gusts and 50 mph substained winds and like 1 foot snow with 2 foot + snow drifts, all dropped in one day from that noreaster that just hit new york city.... and this is in NC mountains
kinda clear that ...those who filmed this didnt grow up here.....this happens at least 2-3 times a yr...back in the 70's and early 80's it happened all the time
@sixtysevenchevelle I wish it was like that every year down here in Texas. So yall should have the heat up there, and we get the cold and snow down here in winter. We Texans can handle heat or cold.
I loathe michigan winters... We can get a foot of snow dumped on us with no warning at all. I turn on the tv: "Lake-effect snow warning just issued, expect 8"-12"+, all schools are closed" Oh hey.... not inconvenient at all :(
dude, i can see about 400-500 Meters out your drivers side window...thats not a blizzard, thats just blowing snow...... blizzard it like 50 meters in front of you cant see shit.....(not trying to be an ass here....)
I live in Grand Rapids...I remember this day...I got stuck on the side of the road. Shortly after a lady slammed into my car...totalling it! That was a crazy storm!
Ask your dad how high the snow drifts were and that will confirm how much snow actually fell. If the snow drifts were 4' high, then it's a good estimate that at least 12" of snow fell. If the snow drifts were upwards to 6-8' high, then it is safe to say that 36-48" of snow fell. Think about it.
Woahhhhhhhhhh. Yeah when I grew up in the Detroit suburbs, all it took was maybe 7" and school would be closed and we would be stuck inside all day. It's the same thing here in Chicago. But, I remember my best friend in Grand Rapids would get well over a foot, and they would STILL have school. Nuts....
Well, it's a good thing the UP measures in feet! Lol. If the southern parts of the state (Detroit area in particular), get so little as 8 or 9 inches, it pretty much cripples transportation for the day.
man that is nothing u guys must be from florida or something . check out a central new york lake affect some time. bring clean underwear cause you will definately shit your pants.
You showed this radar that purely shows a SW wind direction snowfall and the FROPA or cold front that brings true NW wind snow squalls to South West Michigan was just starting to be visible on the last radar image?
lol I think the water from the snow was damaging the camera

I agree, like they never saw snow before. They should go to the UP if they want snow, I hear they measure it in feet, not inches......YIKES!
mygirl22ward 2 years ago
Well, it's a good thing the UP measures in feet! Lol. If the southern parts of the state (Detroit area in particular), get so little as 8 or 9 inches, it pretty much cripples transportation for the day.

That looks like more than just lake effect snow. Looks to be a lot of synoptic snow as well looking at your radar.

I want to move up there. I live down in the south, so we don't see that kind of snow.

where's the heavy snow? All I see is the wind blowing the snow around.

You showed this radar that purely shows a SW wind direction snowfall and the FROPA or cold front that brings true NW wind snow squalls to South West Michigan was just starting to be visible on the last radar image?
Chetnik1979 2 years ago
Wow this video is nothing but over sarcastic idiots 40dbz etc lol ! You assholes yelled heavy snow when the visibility was still good.

Illinois didn't get 4ft of snow in 1970s. They did get a healthy dose of 12-18" of snow with gusty winds which produced drifts up to 4ft (48").
