Have yet to heard a bad version of this song...Winwood is an underrated guitarist; brilliant lead...though I adore all things Jerry, I must admit he looks lost and unwell...he wasn't to be around too much longer and that is a tragedy...leftover from too much "70s".
I am one of those children, grew up on old jazz and Jerry. We are still here, and so are you. Occupy Wall Street. The music never does stop, and we are still here. We've never left!!
peace children awoke at the summer's end they said this is the time so let's pretend that magic & love spells fill the air * warlocks & wizards perform with great care enchanting each & every drop of teardrops that start & will not stop shed with the vision that we are saved by a kingdom that's coming shimmering today I know that it all seems none too soon 'cause i have been sung a whirled wide tune it sounds with trumpets & echoes to the moon with love all around it's gonna bloom!
Steve Winwood, one of the great guatarist, largely overshadowed by his legendary voice and hammond. A complete musician that exceeds its very definition. A true legend.
Just found this, not much of a youtuber. Dear Mr Fantasy on Welcome to the Canteen is my favorite song ever, along with just about any other version of it, have probably listened to it over 10K times (59yrs old). Dead favorite band by far, what a GEM!!! Gustavo you are ACES!!! Will probably have them play it at my funeral!!
saw them same weekend, Joe College DUKE, maybe 71. 72? any help here? and also I think THE WHO? what can I say, I knew the Owsley's boyz, cannot remember it all, Jaaaa
Where are the children of the 70's? Where have you gone? I just woke up. People were nicer, music was amazing and I want to go home, but the music never stopped.
Was talking to a brother of mine today about Dave Mason never knew he was a part of this or a part of Hendricks recording All along the watchtower. Hey, Thanks Dave! An Miss you Jerry, much LOVE
what a great tour, saw this at buckeye lake, ohio it rained for the entire traffic set, then when the dead played it stoped, and then the acid really kicked in (ha)
jerry looks real fucked up, i loved the grateful dead but i guess i wasn't the one who dedicated years of life following them. I know some who have and are very happy in life and of course those who are lost without. Long live good music!
@grateful1nate Jerry was dying from Diabetes at the time, may not have known it but his playing became more and more ethereal as he walked toward his assumption on August 9, 1995. I can only imagine the sessions, Jerry with Jimi and Stevie Ray, Elvis singing leads.
@normy11yt That's terrible way to go about life! Without those other influences the Grateful Dead would not have been as great and without the Grateful Dead the other influences would not have been what they are, it's all one circle of sharing, so to speak. Glad to have a deadhead weight in though. Thanks!
Shoot out at The Fantasy Factory and the Low Spark of High Heeled Boys must be two of the greatest Albums of all times and Dear Mr Fantasy isn't even on those!
As much as I love Stevie and all the bands he's played in, in seems he;s relinquishing the reigns to his elder.............miss Jerry very much, but appreciate Stevie's continued contributions...........he's basically a living God!

I always thought so, but if one chooses to bad mouth and not try to see the other side then I guess so be it. Peace to you and may you find some acceptance within yourself...
@TheStarsgift I thought the same thing as I read his post. I must admit I don't normally read what people post down below for the simple reason I'm usually disappointed by the ignorance of what I see. Negative words only provoke more negative.......Peace to all!
@TheStarsgift As someone who has been a deadhead for going on 25 years, I have to admit there was always a flipside that I fortunately was not a party to. That is to say, there were always deadheads who thought that nothing but the grateful dead counted as "good"
I don't know where these guys landed on RS's list of ax men, and don't care. When listed the 500 greatest songs of "rockn'roll" there wasn't a single one by the Dead!
They were THE most influential American band ever, weren't they.
I wonder where Captain Trips and Steve Winwood are on Rolling Stone's list of greatest guitar players. Bet they didn't get that one any more right than they did Dave Davies of the Kinks.
@martykate RS's list of guitar players is a fucking joke. Jerry is at number 13 with Kurt Cobain ahead of him. Kurt Cobain better than Jerry? Really? I really think they added up how many times someone was on their cover and ranked them that way. That really is the only methodology I can think of.
@cablepanos I don't listen to Dead for political inspiration. Maybe you should see someone about that liberal scum thing. It's ruining the country. Or I should say, RUINED.
@rtt470 Nor do I, on listening to GD. Ruining whose country? According to your channel page, you are in Tajikistan. If you mean America, I disagree. The Neo-cons are the problem in my opinion. The country started circling the toilet bowl while Bush was in office. If you think Obama is a liberal, we have no basis for a rational conversation.
@cablepanos Yes. Barry is ruining the country, by doing NOTHING! Worst piece of crap since Carter. I don't vote along party lines and I certainly did not buy whatever crap B.O. was selling. I won't even call him a President. We may have been circling the bowl, but now we have a piece of crap (Barry) clogging it. Liberal, socialist, "progressive", whatever. They all smell the same. And I never really wanted a conversation anyway, Especially with a libocrat.
@rtt470 LOL Let's take a count; "Liberal scum" x2, "Barry", "piece of crap" x2, "Libocrat" That's 6:1.
I said that for a reason; You said "Barry" has done nothing in one sentence, and the called him progressive in another. Well, which is it? Or can't you regurgitate a talking point for that one.
@cablepanos "progressive"<<<<<--------see the quotations? Do you understand what they mean? Good to see you have nothing better to do than analyze what I write. Now go contribute nothing to society, like the rest of your kind. maybe abort a living fetus or help a wetback over the boarder. Please, move along. I made a comment directed at Rolling Stone, not you.
@Django5198 Just smoke a 'spliff'(dedicated to HIM!),then eat the Ben & Jerry's 'Cherry G.!!!!!!![whilst listening -of course - to Am.Beauty,Work.'s Dead,or Aoxomoxoa...or even SKULLFUCK(the title was banned ...as I guess ya know!!!!!?)...HE WILL - THUS - APPEAR :at least on your tongue!!!!!! Mango splash
this is sad to see in so many ways....great performance still but could have been so much better say any year up through 91 when Jer was a little more on his "A" game(IMHO)... Jerry obviously chased the dragon a little too long before coming out on stage and has the whacko smacko gonzo gaze going...pretty much par for the course from '92 on....kids, let this be a lesson, lay off the SMACK!

I'm pretty sure this was the third day of vegas 94 cause jerry is wearing a purple shirt.....like the "so many roads" from the third night when traffic opened
1994? Giants stadium? Hell yeah I was there. Nearly $hit too when Winwood walked out on stage. Saw Traffic a couple years later at Garden State Arts Center and almost $hit again....Never thought Winwood and Mason would ever do a re-union.
Holy fxk...this sh!t is the jam and that's THAT.

Bet they didn't get that one any more right than they did Dave Davies of the Kinks.
martykate 1 year ago
@martykate RS's list of guitar players is a fucking joke. Jerry is at number 13 with Kurt Cobain ahead of him. Kurt Cobain better than Jerry? Really? I really think they added up how many times someone was on their cover and ranked them that way. That really is the only methodology I can think of.

@cablepanos RS is the biggest piece of shit rag ever. Liberal scum
rtt470 10 months ago
@rtt470 I think it is safe to say that the Grateful Dead are also "Liberal scum". BTW, I'm also a liberal scum.
cablepanos 10 months ago
@cablepanos I don't listen to Dead for political inspiration. Maybe you should see someone about that liberal scum thing. It's ruining the country. Or I should say, RUINED.
rtt470 10 months ago
@rtt470 Nor do I, on listening to GD. Ruining whose country? According to your channel page, you are in Tajikistan. If you mean America, I disagree. The Neo-cons are the problem in my opinion. The country started circling the toilet bowl while Bush was in office. If you think Obama is a liberal, we have no basis for a rational conversation.
cablepanos 10 months ago
@cablepanos Yes. Barry is ruining the country, by doing NOTHING! Worst piece of crap since Carter. I don't vote along party lines and I certainly did not buy whatever crap B.O. was selling. I won't even call him a President. We may have been circling the bowl, but now we have a piece of crap (Barry) clogging it. Liberal, socialist, "progressive", whatever. They all smell the same. And I never really wanted a conversation anyway, Especially with a libocrat.
rtt470 10 months ago
@rtt470 You sound like a brain-washed tool.
cablepanos 10 months ago
@cablepanos ah. Name calling, How liberal
rtt470 10 months ago
@rtt470 LOL Let's take a count; "Liberal scum" x2, "Barry", "piece of crap" x2, "Libocrat" That's 6:1.
I said that for a reason; You said "Barry" has done nothing in one sentence, and the called him progressive in another. Well, which is it? Or can't you regurgitate a talking point for that one.
cablepanos 10 months ago
@cablepanos "progressive"<<<<<--------see the quotations? Do you understand what they mean? Good to see you have nothing better to do than analyze what I write. Now go contribute nothing to society, like the rest of your kind. maybe abort a living fetus or help a wetback over the boarder. Please, move along. I made a comment directed at Rolling Stone, not you.
rtt470 10 months ago 2
@rtt470 Okay, I'm sorry. I thought when you replied to me with @cablepanos you were directing it at me. My mistake.

Garcia--loads of talent--nice guy--what was wrong with him that he felt the need to commit suicide in slow motion? Sad.

Jez looks awful. But no matter how many drugs he took, he was still a great friendly guy and a great guitarist. We need him back!!!!!!

this is sad to see in so many ways....great performance still but could have been so much better say any year up through 91 when Jer was a little more on his "A" game(IMHO)... Jerry obviously chased the dragon a little too long before coming out on stage and has the whacko smacko gonzo gaze going...pretty much par for the course from '92 on....kids, let this be a lesson, lay off the SMACK!

1994? Giants stadium? Hell yeah I was there. Nearly $hit too when Winwood walked out on stage. Saw Traffic a couple years later at Garden State Arts Center and almost $hit again....Never thought Winwood and Mason would ever do a re-union.
