i always Loved The Yardbirds esp Shapes Of Things. I'm a big fan of Big Jim Sullivan (u should see him play the sitar on Space:1999) and Jimmy Page is my guitar hero and my uncle knew him, really!! wen they play it takes me on a voyage through Old England or Scotland. i love it wen Jimmy is climbing that mountain at night in northern Scotland from the movie. i am your #1 italian fan
No one can compite with jimmy's talent ,all the skills all in one person and with such a taste!I've been dreaming of him all of my life.I recall I was starving for photoes or videos of jimmy in the 70 80 and now all this amount of data.WHO DETECTED ALL THIS FOR YEARS!!!
@keenly1 yo hav u heard "Cocain" or "Wonderful Tonight" or "Tears in Heaven" or even "Sunshine of your Love" yes page is better than clapton n yes claptons nickname is "slow fingers" but he can write! so stfu
thats not his name... or nick name its not even a word its Jimmy symbol nobody knows what it means either. This symbol first appeared on the 4th album
Giorgio has a funny story of how it was Clapton who first produced feedback.
It was by accident around early 1964. We were in Olympic Studios and we had 20 minutes left to do a B-side. Eric put down his guitar against his amplifier and disappeared to the toilet. Eric's guitar produced feedback. When Eric returned we got "Got To Hurry" on tape!
The session after ours was PJ Proby . Big Jim Sullivan use the effect which ended up on PJ Proby's recording too!
Now here's something some of you may not know. Because Jim Sullivan was a large fellow, they called him Big Jim. What do you think Jimmy was called? That's right, Little Jimmy Page! He also had another nickname, magic fingers! What a couple of great musicians!!!
big jim is such a nice bloke.. i jammed with him years ago when i was at GIT in london.. everyone was mad for their fingertapping with sean baxter go i got to chill with big jim.. he taught me loads like maj scales in thirds etc.. page is so nice too.. i was always a mad zep head so when i got to play with him.. well that was mad for me at 19.. i always hated session working and depping though so respect to these guys.. always mad when you get to play with your hero's ehh...
"As we came to the 14th bar I was watching him, feeling really annoyed - he was still reading his paperback. And damn it, as we reached the 15th bar, he learnt forward, turned the page of the paperback and started reading the next page. I was about to stop the take and yell at him when we reached the 17th bar. Without taking his eyes off the paperback he played his part absolutely impeccably 32 bars of it."
"Once I was walking round amongst the musicians, I'd noticed that Big Jim was reading a paperback book which he had on his music stand in front of his part. When we started the first take, I could see from the control room that he was still reading it. It aggravated me like mad. Jim had nothing to play till the 17th bar, but if he didn't come in correctly the take would have to be scrapped and we'd have to start again. And time was running out."
"A session lasted only three hours and often we arrived at the last half-hour before we got to our first complete run through of the song we'd come to record. Of course, by then, since the engineer and I might have been wasting a lot of time on the drum sounds, all the other musicians would have had time to run through their parts on their own and get to know them."
I got this from Simon Napier-Bell, one time Yardbirds manager (1 of 3) :-
"In the Sixties, when I did a lot of record production, I always used Big Jim on guitar. If he wasn't available, I postponed the session until he was. In those days the Musician Union rules disallowed over-dubbing and the band had to play all at the same time. This meant we would spend a lot of time working on the drum sounds, for instance, while the other musicians just sat around waiting."
I did in the past, but it was rejected, so I have now removed it from "McCarty". When you do a search with the words "Big Jim Sullivan", this video is showing anyway!...
So who took advantage of the twin Jims (ignoring the middle of the road artists) :- Dave Berry Chris Farlowe Herman & The Hermits Chrispian St Peters Marianne Faithful PJ Proby Lulu Brian Poole (although Brian denies this) A Lot of French artists (with Bobby Graham in charge) Any others ?

@dazednconfused41 Eric Ford - using the same pedal that was used on Dave Berry's "Crying Game".

It's ZOSO, not zofo. Yes, the s resembles an f, but that's because it's an archaeic s, like the s they use in old German and English texts.

Jimmy borrowed Jim's Gibson Jumbo J-200 for the album Led Zeppelin 1.
Jimmy also used a white Fender Telecaster (the guitar favoured by Jim at the time) for the album and for his work with the Yardbirds.
He used a Les Paul for his live work with LZ.
youoverzealtube 3 years ago
Jim,
Thanks for that !
Your video is now picked up when "Big Jim Sullivan" (with quotes) is entered into the search engine.
I lived next to Jim in Hounslow in the late 1950s and my mate delivered your dry cleaning - how cool is that !

Jimmy's and Jim's first "real" partnership was on "My Baby Left Me" by Dave Berry.
Jimmy play blistering a solo.
A couple of months later Jim takes centre stage with "Crying Game" and Jimmy strums along.
youoverzealtube 3 years ago
I always thought that Jimmy Page, Big Jim Sullivan and John Paul Jones would have formed a folk/rock group.
Who would have been the singer and drummer ?
But Jimmy was keen to join the Yardbirds which had a heavy sound.
youoverzealtube 3 years ago
youoverzealtube 3 years ago
Big Jim Sullivan was very experimental.
Have a listen to Michael Cox's "Sweet Little Sixteen" (1961) - sustain, feedback, pedals, the lot.
Also have a listen to PJ Proby's "Together" (1964) - Jimmy would have been inspired by the guitar break.
youoverzealtube 3 years ago
Big Jim Sullivan was not only Country.
Think of PJ Proby's "Hold Me" for instance.
