soundtrack to my saturday shifts listening to roger scott.irreplaceable, driving scotland to england n back, and an angel flew in took one look and left.
I find Mark Germino in a Swedish radioprogram, lead by Kalle Oldby. I have to order his records from USA, and I`m really lucky too find most of his collection. I mostly recommend Atomic Candlestick from 2006 and Rank and File from 1995.
One of my top-ranking favorites, both as a singer and a songwriter.
This always reminds me of the great BBC DJ, Roger Scott. Thanks Roger, Thanks Mark. Thank you all the real Rex Bob's everywhere. Find what the people want.
Thank you for posting Mark's tunes. I just ordered - and received - two of his CD's from Amazon because of this upload. If ASCAP comes after you, feel free to cite this post.
And thanks for introducing me to this brilliant artist!
one of my all time favorites , thanks for posting five star choice reminds me of terry jacks version of rock and roll i gave you the best years of my life , and w.o.l.d by harry chapin all excellent songs, thanks again
Superb track - bought the LP -still have it (unscratched and NOT FOR SALE- thanks) now on CD as well.
What a shame Mark never got the breaks he deserved....
Memories of Roger Scott - also John Peel played this on more than one occasion.... Another Disk Jok taken from us too soon.
My local Oldie Station played this as a requestfrom me a couple of years ago one Sunday - and a week later the DJ played rest of the LP in one hit .... then Quit live on air. They had been taken over by GWR
heard this track some years ago on the Bob Harris Radio 2 saturday show a number of times. It came back into my mind a while back but am as such unable to download but as of now my thirst has been whetted with this version. A truly fine track.
1987/88 ish Roger Scott, Radio 2 played this every Saturday afternoon , got me through working when I should have been out having fun with my friends!
He played such a diverse range of music, another song that reminds me of him is King of the New York Streets by Dion. Again played most Saturdays! Like so many, gone too soon.
Roger Scott was a giant, a brilliant broadcaster who loved his music and puts todays jox to shame, with the exception of Johnnie Walker We miss you Roger, bet he does the afternoon show in heaven!!! God bless him.
The reason I like the Mark Germino song is that it is applicable to radio today, DJ's have to play what they are told to play, Roger played what he wantd to play and wouldn't be told what to do!! I worked in radio for 20 years and whilst I was fairly successful I always used to listen to Roger and so much wanted to be as good as him. Alas I never was. Check out Don Henley, End of the Innocence, Roger loved this record which came out not long before he passed away, and he loved it so much.
Heard this guy on Johnnie walker this morning what a breath of fresh air why havent I heard of him before. I was beginning to think we had run out of good songs. Just bought this album on e bay can anyone tell me what other albums there are
hi heard the same on j w show when he said he co uld nt get song i have 3 dif versions on vinyl they re all great buy every 1 at record fairs an by the way find the people dug amt
I would really love to listen to "From the Brooklyn Bridge"...seems I can't find it on the internet, not even on ITunesStore...it would be a great gift if you would post it !!!
He's actually a North Carolina Boy. I don't really keep up w/ Mark anymore but I know he still tours and has just had several songs picked up by other artists.
Should be dedicated to Ralph Bernard and his fellow "Suits". They ruined Radio in the UK. "better Music mix my arse!" they have their heads up their backsides.
i remember this brilliant track being played by simon mayo on his radio 1 breakfast show and in 1989 played this as a tribute to the late great roger scott as it summed up scotts dedication to,and loveof, music(if he liked it,he played it ,with or without the backing of bbc management)
The anthem to all DJ's who crave to exist as an individual. A prophetic view of the dash to networking and bland superpower radio groups we now have in the UK. I am weekend freelance jock on a small town station hearing this song again makes it all seem worth it.
Awesome song. For all the jocks whose career was ruined by "the suits". F****** A********.
In the UK this song is about the pratts at GWR group who overnight ruined radio forever.
Prefer the slightly different version of this song as it has more atmosphere, but whatever, this puts into words the feelings of so much creative air talent. As a jock with 20 years experience I always felt that the "suits" upstairs were envious and jealous of our talent and so had to take controk. Dickheads!!
hi i'm slighty confused i thought this songs was about the midnight cowboy Roger Schutt? who when the radio station was telling him what to play he barricaded himself in and played what he wanted to play.
How many people thought they were the only ones to link Mark Germino with Roger Scott? What a great man he was. Caught in the act is in my top ten favourites ever.
Searched for ages to find the name of this song, again after hearing it on R1 in 1989 with Roger Scott then Ken Bruce played it last month and now i've found it. Thanks.

Everytime I hear this, Im thinking of the late great Roger Scott when he was on BBC Radio 1, thankfully I had the good sense to buy it when it came out in 1988. It was a very unique track. Ironically this is the very true story of how bad radio stations have become twenty years on.
So good to hear that I'm not the only one who links Rex Bob Lowenstein with the late Roger Scott. I have a very well worn tape styled on Roger's show concluding with this track. It has been "going to sleep" music on Sunday nights many many times since the loss of Roger and the cancellation of Bob Harris' subsequent show in the same slot.
Quiet, powerful, emotive and classic stuff. We have been caught in the act of being ourselves.
So good to hear someone else that taped Roger Scott's show!! I still have some old tapes of the Friday "cruising" hour--very underrated DJ. He was also the first person I heard play "Born to Run" in 1975--It stopped me in my tracks. I felt like I'd lost a friend when he died- sounds daft, but he was my musical mentor when I was a teenager. Regards, John
