  • Now that's the way music should be played. When you hear a song and cannot pick out the instruments... it ain't music. GREAT JOB FELLAS if you're ever in WI let us all know so we can grab out guitars & fiddles and we'll meet ya on the front porch for an old sing-a-long jam session. KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK!!!!!

  • I was raised in New Jersey and I'm proud to see good "Patriotic" country folk like these guys.Just keep the torch burning. Two Americas emerging.Me and people like this and the other is God help us with the "new immigrants" coming to America.People coming from countries that hate America.Notice what people are holding American flags on the 4th of July.See any new immigrants?Think about that. Will their children show up on the 4th with an American flag?We know the answer to that.

  • The girl will love this when she is older.

I wish my border collie could do things as well.

The thing is here this is better than NGDB on utube as they speeded theirs up from the 1970's vesion. .

Why speed anything up or add something to a perfect song?

    Well done masters!

I am glad someone could respect the song and do it correctly.

My opinion but the song makes me smile the way you did it.

John Calvin is my cat but not my name

  • cool

  • No that's Staten Island. I recognize those trees.

Great video guys -- well done cover. Love it. I've got some old tube radios in the basement that need to be put on display more.

When are you guys going to be on Twitter so you can tweet us twits each time a new video goes up? Also you should come up to Staten Island sometime and perform. There's a Blue Grass festival in the fall; not that you are Blue Grass per se..

  • @paperbacknovel Sorry for the double post -- these days Youtube throws your post half way down the page, not to the top, so you think it hasn't been posted. Then they don't allow you to remove it. Youtube is going backwards.

  • Vanessa,

Thanks for asking. We are a group of friends who made these videos on a lark. In the process we've had some fun and got in some good practice time. I don't think we are ready to go on the road, but we are starting to get a few requests to play for local events and are having some fun with that.

Thanks for checking out our videos and taking time to comment.

    Michael

  • Ed,

    Thanks,

    Steve

  • Well done, it sounds good. I know this song sung by Lonnie Donnegan and later in the 70ies sung by the Les Humphries singers. Nice video with the little girl. My stars for you.

    Michael

  • Guten Tag Michael,

You may already know this, but Jimmy Driftwood (birth name James Morris) wrote this song in 1936. He was a school teacher and wrote this song and sang it to his class to help them understand their lesson.

    Thanks for watching,

    Steve

  • Where'd you learn all this stuff ???

    Nevermind.. I know.

  • Good video, guys. Like your introduction.

  • Great intro! Cute little girl. You guys sound great together (as usual) and I always enjoy seeing the beautiful instruments you're playing. Loved it!

  • Skawirt,

Glad you like our instruments. David Evans was bumped over to fiddle on this song, and we asked John Lee to play mandolin. John had been practicing his part on his beginner level A-Style mandolin. A few minutes before recording, John's wife handed him a new F-Style mandolin (as an early birthday present). He was totally surprised and we all got a big kick out of seeing his reaction.

    Steve

  • Steve,

The intro alone is worth the price of admission. That's the best u-tube intro ever! Great job!

  • Jplee888,

Glad you liked the intro. I was hoping my band mates would be pleased with how Gracie's little skit turned out, but now I'm worried they will be jealous of her stealing the show.

    Thanks,

    Steve

  • loved it

  • Johnny,

We couldn't have done it without you.

    Thanks,

    Steve

  • Ariellehunter,

That's my, little granddaughter and I think she is cute too.

"Authentic" is the word one of us said when we stepped out into the woods to film this video. It kind of looks like we are back in 1814, doesn't it?

    Thanks,

    Steve

    Steve

  • Fantastick! The only problem with videos from vollyballjones is that there are not enough of them!! More, more please! :) a fine job all around.Steve is that guitar part of your collection of "cowboy" guitars?

    *****'s

    Larry

  • Larry,

I guess we are a little slow at coming out with videos.

The guitar I'm playing is a 1995 "OOO" Martin from their Custom Shop. I had an artist draw the art, and cut stencils. Then I sent the stencils to Martin and they sprayed paint through them to make the design. They also gave the guitar a slight aged tinting - like the Eric Clapton signature model they were doing back then. It is reminiscent of the 1930's - 1950's cowboy guitars, but a much better guitar.

    Thanks,

    Steve

  • Nice one, VolleyballJones Pickers!
