I think cause they kinda aren't when compared to real and traditional ska. Most people nowdays only know about the third wave (90's ska). Most people figure anything with horns played to rock is ska. Take this song for example, people might call it ska when reality its Dixieland and more reminiscent of New Orleans music than anything that ever came out of jamaica
i listen to all ska the specials toots and the maytals the selector and much more...but i also listen to and appreciate new age third wave ska because these artists were for sure influenced by ska from bad in the day...they just modernized it and added some punk sound to it im sure bands from back than would be flattered and not offended
well i dunno bout america, but CANADA sure can skank. and i saw some mellow skankin on stage, so theyre not all bad. plus the circles in the states are kinda bigger/better.
I heard this in a music lesson and fell in love!! My best friend and I play the trumpet (him for 5 years me for 5 weekds!) and the best I can do is Great Escape and I don't think my friend could play this but I would like a go on the sax!
