  • torque steer?

  • question..when you swap the qr25 with the vq35 does the stock 6 speed transmission work with the vq or do you need to swap it with the 5 speed as well?

  • stiffen up your front suspension

  • @cbeck611 The car has custom valved BC's on it, now.. This video, it just had a set of Basics.

  • holly shit dude, nice nissan

  • i got cometic head gasket .04", do you think that will be enough room to clear pistons/qwench pads? nice car btw!

    dont listen to haters!

  • @urge251980 Yep.. .040" will give you adequate clearance. There's haters everywhere.. I try not to let them bother me, but some of them are just plum fucking retarded! ;)

  • Exactly what does the VQ35 has from the HR and what from the DE on this car?

  • @deadbeat86 We used HR pistons in the DE block. I had to machine a few spots on the domes to clear the quench pads on the DE head. It wasn't much.. only .010", but without it, the pistons make contact with the heads after warming up and expanding a bit.

  • I mean really.. it's a FWD with 300hp. It's not a 1000whp FWD drag car, with a spool/welded diff. Does it look like I have an problem controling the car? Stop being some dramatic about something as stupid as how I hold the steering wheel!

  • @Trav4011

pussies hold the wheel like that. pussies with fwd jdm tyte yo mad swapped dragster bullshit. and tough guys with tattoos

  • @mace91192 lol.. Guess I'm a "pussy" then, since I seem to meet the qualifications, as per your definition of the word. Thanks for clearing that up.. I mean, here I was thinking that a "pussy" was someone that hid behind a keyboard and talked shit on YouTube.

  • @Trav4011

you have no business driving a car faster than a normal pace with your hand there. period.

  • @mace91192 Well, it's a good thing you're not the end-all, be-all authority on driving hand position, now isn't it? I usually hold the wheel at 12 and 5 or so.. I've done so for 15 years. Do I do it like that on purpose? No.. It's just however I grab the wheel in the car that I'm driving. Sometimes it's different. Stop making such a big deal about nothing.

  • why the fuck do morons hold the steering wheel like this... if you hold it on the side you have way more control over wheel bite, slip etc... ugh

  • @mace91192 Why the fuck do morons care about how I hold the steering wheel? Seriously, how many times are we going to go through this? I'm in my mid 30's, and have been building/driving very fast cars for a very long time. I'll hold the wheel however I want. Jesus..

  • @mace91192 You're not driving the car so why are you so worried ?

  • Is that thing street drivable? Im thinking of doing the same mods on my spec

  • @oerllikon2 It's completely streetable.. Runs on 93 octane, and gets 25+mpg even with the ported heads and big cams.

  • @Trav4011 How the FUCK did you get that gas mileage?

  • @tevinm14 Dunno.. I guess because it's in a 2800lb car? Our stock VQ swapped sentras get upwards of 30mpg.

  • @tevinm14 I Just realized this is a nissan.... i was looking at Toyota mr2 videos and stumbled apon this... its a sentra?

  • @tevinm14 Yep.. 2004 Sentra. :)

  • @Trav4011 Holy Fuck now im even more impressed

  • Wait till you guys see the new engine that's going into this car.. 4 liters of big bore and stroked goodness, with ported HR heads, and C9 cams! Engine control will be with a full standalone (ProEFI), and it should make in the 360-370whp range on pump gas. :)

  • Sweet hand position bro. *thumbsdown*

  • @thejeremiah Do we really have to go through this childishness again? Is it really that big of a deal? lol.. I've run some of the quickest/fastest times in a B15 chassis for 10 years. I really don't need someone telling me how to hold the fucking steering wheel. Jesus..

  • @Trav4011 The only thing childish is the way you're holding the steering wheel.

  • @eroticpie lol.. ok..

  • @thejeremiah If i could hold the steering wheel with my dick, i'd do it - just to add to the ORGASMIC FEELING OF PUTTING MY LEG DOWN ! Thumbs up if your heart revs out at 10000 RPM and if your blood is 115 octane!

  • You probably get a lot of torque steer.

  • Torque steer on wet roads. When I hit it on wet roads at 45-55 I'm all over the place.

  • How much for the install and where is it done...my QR is getting tired

  • fucking bOSS.

  • i dont know what year you used for the 3.5 but one comes with 275 and the other 290 diffrent years i just dont know why they didnt offer this as a option and have you sigh a waiver form lol nce

  • @MrBry329 The engine that was use is the VQ35DE from 02-06 (and up to 08 in the maxima). It is a 255hp engine that uses DE heads. The 07+ Altima, and 09+ Maxima use the same DE block, but with VQ35HR cylinder heads, and higher compression pistons. The 09+ Maxima also has a few misc. changes to the block.. but, it's still a DE casting (meaning it doesn't have the taller deck of the HR block).

  • @alexanderocks It's got some TQ steer, which is expected.. but, honestly, it turns the Sentra into a little go-kart. It's a BLAST to drive.

  • I love nissan and especially the vq series engine. But why do you choose to build a fwd car when the same engine comes in a rwd platform also.

  • @jabba12000 I build what my customers want.. Most of my vehicles are RWD. ;)

  • @jabba12000 The VQ35DE was a FWD platform on the Maxima :p

    Just sayin.

  • @jabba12000 fwd cars excel at time attack

  • @DragonRoLo

    this is true

  • @jabba12000

Because the RWD versions are significantly more expensive. You can pick up a 2002+ Sentra or 1995+ Maxima for next to nothing. In case you didn't notice, we're just starting The Greatest Depression. Good luck finding a 350z/G35 in decent shape for less than $10k.

Oh, and the 350z/G35 is a pig when it comes to weight. The G35 weighs up to 3600lb. My 1995 maxima is 2800lb. Spec V is 2700lb.

Oh, and since I live in AK, I can drive a FWD year round, 99% of the time.

  • @fubecabr

Maybe not right at $10k but i got a 350z for 10.5k with 55k miles. Rebuilt title but it was good as new. Drove it for 40k miles and sold it bought a 400rwhp 300zx.

  • what can i do to mine to make it 300whp?

  • @sentrartune Heads and cams, tune, and bolt-on's.

  • @Trav4011 sweet, do you know of any places that can performe this swap in florida?

  • looks like your sentra got some torque!

  • All wanted to know if it can and what i got to do if we was to race u will win weight to power bro so can it ot not

  • @ortizjonathano What? lol..

  • yo bro is it possable to do this swap in a se-r altima

  • @ortizjonathano

    lol....youse trollin!

  • man i dont miss torque steer

  • this is awesome, amazing swap

  • Damn I love the sound of your car! and it must have a crazy gas pedal!

  • Sounds sweet!

  • i dont get how people can hold the wheel at the top, one little pot hole and you will swerve all over the place.

  • @TheAussiestralian

I hold it at the bottom, or, around 5 o clock, too.. TQ steer isn't THAT bad. ;) I'm 30 years old, and have been building/driving high HP FWD cars for over 10 years. This one at 300whp isn't that serious.

  • @TheAussiestralian not me my pimp hand is strong

  • That is fu**en sweet I am the owner of an 04 Nissan Sentra SE R SPEC V and I dream about a VQ swap all the time funds are issue but i have so many questions for you is that the original transmission and does it bolt right up if it is... or did you have to modify it>?roughly what power gains did you get N/A then forced induction... some facts you may remember about installing it any problems you had would be appreciated if you post them its a beast man great job!!!!!

  • arent those VQ's int the 350z

  • @CelicasForEver Similar, but, there are key differences between the FWD and RWD engines. Engine mounts bosses, accessories, intake manifold are all different. This pretty much makes it impossible to use the RWD motor in the FWD chassis.

  • @Trav4011 the sad thing is that you hardly ever see people put this amount work into the RWD engine. so much more potential to be had out of the z33/v35 in na form but people would rather just boost em..

  • @lotteman I wish I could get someone with Z chassis to let me go balistic under the hood. We have the parts/know-how to make 400hp N/A on pump gas. That would be fun in a slightly lightened up Z chassis.

  • @CelicasForEver: the VQ was originally in the 95 nissan maxima. It was the VQ30DE. It was all aluminum, and put down 190hp- which was alot at the time. The VQ was also used in the Xterra. They kept the same engine until 2000 when it was up to 220hp, and changed to the VQ30DE-K. They added a MEVI intake manifold, which allowed the car to get more power and tourque at the top end, rather than mid range. Then the VQ35, and now the VQ37. Its now used in the Altima, Maxima, 350/70Z, and the G35/7.

  • @kil2board

The Xterra didn't get the VQ until 2004 or 2005, IIRC. Before then, it was the VE33 motor. The US VQ NEVER had the MEVI. MEVI=Middle East Variable Intake. The 2000+ had a different and better intake than the MEVI.

  • @fubecabr It was a VG33DE.. It's also up for debate if the 00 VI manifold is better than the MEVI.

  • @Trav4011

Since when is it up for debate? That was put to rest years ago.

    forums.maxima d o t org/all-motor/318132-proof-00vi-owns-mevi d o t html

  • @fubecabr It's up for debate, because it varies depending on the head and cam selection, and what the engine is set up for. But, stock for stock, sure.. the 00VI usually wins out.

  • Way cool man, have you had a chance to run it at the 1/4 mile? Thanks for the vid

  • Talk about torque steer!

  • HOly Torque Steer Batman!!

  • Damn! Niiiiice swap dude.

  • Yeah.. that road sucks ass. I got it, though. ;)

  • how is it a hr/de hybrid?? what parts from hr does it have from hr??

  • @Dani01c

Pistons are fly cut HR derivitives, as well as the HR oil pump.

  • @Trav4011 My mechanic friend built a sleeper..92 Honda Civic dx.put a b18gsr vtec from a Teg..now he said it was high compression...cause when we went out on the freeway and a bike cut us off..he said..that you want me to catch up..so here we are ting was loud as fuck..but we caught up with him..we reach 120mph..cause the needle wouldnt go more..but I remember the dude on the bike..the bike was making a skippin noise..he said that it does that when the rpm exceeds..high compression was the dx.

  • Question, is the maxima motor the same as the 350z motor? If so, if the altima's 2.5 can drop into a Sentra, and a Maximas 3.5 drops into the altima, why can't the Maxima's motor drop directly into the Sentra, even using the maxima's motor mounts? I know nothing about imports, I'm a Stangbanger.... but I use my 05' 1.8 Sentra as my hoopty, back & forth the work. figured I'd like some kick out of it. :-)

  • @BigHeadAQ the problem is the engine bay is smaller in the sentra and it's not the same mounting points but any vq35 can be modified to fit the sentra depending on your wrenching skills or cash.

  • @BigHeadAQ plus the altima and maxima are built on the same chassis just different sheet metal, when i say chassis i mean code all cars are unibody so no actual chassis but you get my drift.

  • honda eater. dope

  • looks like ur shifting @ 7500-7700rpm ????

  • hey did u use the stock 4cyl 6 speed transmission on this? im lookin into doin this same swap cant find any info on trannys

  • @countyranger411 the spec-v comes with the same 6 speed in the altima ser, maxima, and 350/g35 gotta love nissan for keeping things simple makes it easier for the true car guys to have some fun : )

  • @specvjosh50

Err... 350/G35 is RWD. So its not really the same 6 speed.

  • @iamhappy46 same internals different housing and mounting but same ratio's

  • @specvjosh50

Err... no. Different shafts, different ratios, different gear tooth profile widths... COMPLETELY different gearboxes. Since I know the japanese company (AISIN) who make the FWD gearbox, I can assure you they are different.

  • @iamhappy46 ok then you seem to know your stuff so when i was talking to the nissan tech i know about the engine tranny combo and he said the just took the qr from the altima and the 6 speed from the altima ser with the mods to make it fit and work with the qr i guess he's wrong any way please tell me what the gear ratios are in the altima ser and the maxima i'd like to see the difference, it makes sense though since the power bands are different between the two engines.

  • @specvjosh50

I was refering to the part where you said the G35 and 350Z had the same gearbox as the Maxima/Altima/Sentra.

The Sentra/Altima and Maxima have the same FWD gearbox, still slightly diff ratios depending on exact model and year etc. They can have parts interchanged though.

My Pulsar is FWD and the old motor is currently in retirement, my car is basically a B13 Sentra but I have since completed a few VQ35 swaps into the N14 Pulsar shell, with my N14 Pulsar now having a built VQ35.

  • @iamhappy46 holy shit that must pull, how's the torque steer pretty wild i'm guessing, i would love to build an old b13 even with just an sr, love the old school shape reminds me of the 510, if i had the cash i would love to have the chassis converted to rwd then it would be a real tribute to the old datsun.

  • @iamhappy46 but like i said different shafts and gear tooth widths have to do with the actual difference in size the don't have any effect on the performance of the tranny the gear ratios are what is important, the smaller motor the smaller you want to make everything if for nothing else than to decrease parasitic loss no need to spin extra weight if not needed but you don't want to shave to much off to the point where it wont handle the power, then you start chewing the teeth off gears or worse

  • @iamhappy46 by the way nice sr swap is it gti-r i love them biggest sleeper around in my opinion, there's a guy around my town putting down 300 to the wheels with no prob he loves to stomp on the sti's and evo's running around so bad ass.

  • @specvjosh50 sweet thanks!

  • @prodriver1 I didn't plan on it.. The Quaife HLSD seems to work just fine for most of these guys. The thought of IRS in the rear is appealing, though.. :)

  • 50lbs weight difference.. give or take.. But, can be made up for with a carbon hood, lightweight flywheel, and lighter stainless headers.

  • Whats the weight difference between the engines?

  • Dose the VQ have the exact same engine mounts as the stock engine in the sentra?

If it does, then I'm swapping. :D

  • @THATW3IRDKID No.. I have billet mounts made to bolt it in..

  • @Trav4011 Could you explain what billet mounts do?

I don't know anything about cars and all I know is that this is badass.

  • @THATW3IRDKID billet is the stock aluminum that the mounts are made from, i'm sure some company out there makes them if not then it's all up too you.

  • Car is getting a freshen up this fall (2 years old), and will recieve a 4 liter, big bore bottom end, further ported heads than what's on the block, now, bigger C9 cams, and a dash of N2O. :)

  • @prodriver1

Far from stock.. ;) 11.5:1 pistons, H-beam rods, ported heads, JWT C8R cams, JWT Springs, ARP bolts, ported upper/lower intake manifold, HR oil pump, 8K rpm rev limiter..

  • Fucking awesome....just fucking awesome 5/5

  • I really like the sound of this engine, nice job.

  • lol i bet thats fun as hell to drive!

  • major torque steer...nice build sounds wicked

  • Fn Sweet bro! Now thats how u modd a car!!!!!

  • Sure.. you can find us at myspec-v (dot) com

  • Love it. Can u do my spec v next? Seriously I'll pay u cash...

  • its very complicated the installation of vq?

  • @nismogtrr34

It can be.. depending on how it's done. The way that my company installs it, the harness is 100% plug and play, and we can get emissions to work as well.

  • hows the toque steer?

  • @lan00b

About the same as a turbo QR..

  • What engine is that? Ik its a vq35 but from what car? Thanks!!

  • @specialjoe405

You can use one from a Maxima, Altima, Quest, I35, Murano.. Any FWD based VQ35DE will work..

  • travis u still doin vq swaps for 4 grand?

  • man was that vin diesel driving durring the first part.. nice swap though sounds good

  • Comment removed

  • thats a pretty cool project man. props

  • Nice Job!

  • GREAT SWAP MY FRIEND!! I OWN A SPEC V ALSO!! just a removed rev limiter full 3inch exhaust after cat and removed resonator and nissan stock airfilter..i love it the way it is but i want to turbo it.

  • that car looks fucking nutso man. holy christ. i drive an se-r with the qr and its quick but that must be fast as shit. how much something like that cost?

  • lol.. I can't believe that people are still going on and on about where I'm holding the steering wheel. Seriously? lol..

This is a 300whp, FWD car.. it's not that serious..

  • would love to see if somebody would come up with a drop in kit for the like the chevy LS motors for 350z, 240s,rx7s....

    nice ride

  • We do offer a "swap in a box" kit.. However, most people prefer to have us do the work, as it's a bit involved.

  • thanks. I've done a few swaps already on my own but with 240's and chevy motors. I'd like to try this one on my own. I love the satisfaction of doing the job yourself. I'm sure you know what I mean.. thanks again.

  • do you have to use special gas for this?

  • Nope.. just regular old pump gas. Hell, you could run 87 octane if you wanted to.

  • Nice engine son, but it does matter where you put your hands when you're steering. I don't think I've ever seen shumi pullin a vin diesel in his F1 car. Try 9-3 man, or where its most comfortable.

  • that's what I noticed, I'm pretty sure if he kept the left hand at 9, it'd be much more stable

  • I'm in my 30's.. I'm not your "son".. No offense, but, this isn't a F1 car. I put my hands where it's most comfortable for me. Thanks..

  • 5 *****

  • get it turbo and it will be twice as beast but it is still badass

  • I'm putting a turbo VQ swap together as we speak.. I built a VQ30/turbo powered B15 years ago.. but, never a VQ35.

  • where are you located out of if you don't mind me asking?

  • wow dude this is fast

  • your hands need to be 10:2 or ur bound to get tail happy and wreck

  • @klexgs Maybe you can't see or weren't paying attention, but he's holding the steering wheel with both hands. And yeah, FWD cars are very tail happy....

  • 10 and 2. really tail happy in a front wheel drive wwoowowowowowowowo you sir are a fail

  • Thank you, driving instructor.. I always hold the wheel with both hands.. However, I have to shift, which requires me to remove one hand. It does not matter where you hold the wheel, contrary to what you were taught in driver's ed.

  • More like special ed, 25evets is a dildo. lol

  • I'm pricing a swap in my 4th gen max... it's a 5speed, and i want to keep the 5speed but swap my 3.0vq for the 3.5... Send me a pm if you have a pricing chart... - or i'll go to the site to.. (also would like to boost)

  • do you think i can put that vq35hr in my 2003 3.5 ?

  • nice build off, don,t pay attention to those jelouse kids. DUDE you got the KNWOLEDGE,KEEP IT UP....

  • dude i have a ser too and i really want to do that, send me a message or live ur number please i want a VQ too...

  • my car does that in the rain too. 260 tq at 3000 rpm in a front wheel drive car is killer in the rain.

  • Actually, it had just started to sprinkle when I got onto the on ramp.. The car spins the tires on dry pavement through 2nd gear.

  • how many rpms till u redline?

  • 7800

  • Awesome CAR

How much does it cost to do the engine swap?

  • Thanks.. :)

Prices start at around 4K, installed and out the door. Obviously, this one ran a little higher. ;) Check us out at myspec-v (dot) com

  • How much for just the block and what else (besides ecu tune)do i need to make it run like that in my 03 maxima

  • Shoot me a message on here, and I'll reply back with pricing/details.. Thanks!

  • Our installed prices (drop it off/pick it up when it's done), start around 4500 bucks.. check us out at myspec-v (dot) com. :)

  • I own RWD vehicles, personally, but I have built close to 40 of these in the past few years.. and I never get tired of driving them! It's like driving a 4 door go-kart, that gets 26mpg when you take it easy.

  • god damn look at that tq. steer, one reason i hate FWD cars. nice swap though, gotta love a vq swapped sentra.

  • wtf that motor fits in there? nice nice nice!

and GEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEZUZ @ TORQUE STEER. It's a bitch

  • it doesnt bolt in but travis made sure it can work

  • Yes, I have seen one at Luskville and OMG do they ever RIP! Interesting thing is that there is still room for super and turbo ;).

  • im ore shocked that they can get the engine cover on in there too haha

  • what about a boosted vq35 on a spec-v now that will be the insanely fast!!!

  • it would be...but traction would be the real issue, as you'd have none

  • u guy's should come to nyc. we have 2 of theme with no traction issue.

  • Yeah.. traction is usually only a problem for those making power. ;)

  • torque steerin much

  • it sounds super smooth. is that the lightest thing you can put one of those into?

  • lightest? Why would you say the lightest?

  • i mean is it the lightest nissan FWD this engine can fit into?
