I LOVE me some Telecasters! The trem adds some nice pseudo Strat like jangle here, doesn't sound dark/muddy like most of the TD reissues I've heard. This one actually sounds a lot closer to the original Seth Lover designed FWR pups from the '70s. I'm tempted to go for one of these.
@fantofradiomuse only difference is that one has a whammy bar and one doesn't. the one with the whammy bar is also a little more expensive, but not too much. i personally prefer the one with the tremolo
I need to know what really adds sustain to a guitar because my Ibanez 465M's sustain sounds like shit....I've been doing a lot of research but still can't figure out if it's the body or headstock or the pickups or the strings that affect the sustain in a guitar
Raise your action, use thicker strings, turn your amp up loud, use more gain, use some compression, higher output pickups with low magnet pull, there's a lot of things you can do to increase sustain.
@marxskate123 Yup. Just his fingers/nails. It's really the way to go if you can figure out how to not break your strings. People also make fun of you for the long nails
I want to buy one of these suckers in spring 2011, does anyone have any idea if they will still be in production then? are they like a limited run thing? should I hop on it while I still can?
I had an original from 72, the hardtail version, but moded with a Bigsby (everything else original). Sold it for 800 bucks to make rent while I was still a student :(
When you are holding your hand like there is a pick in it--can you describe how you are striking the strings? Are you using your index nail on the down-stroke and thumbnail on the upstroke, or are you using the outside edge of your thumb on the down? I've been trying to work on a similar technique, but having problems with brittle nails. Any chance you could post a video on your technique? It is super cool.
i have the deluxe players strat, and i was thinkin of selling it for a guitar with beefier tone and more sustain. i like the way a tele sounds and i like humbuckers for pickups so i thaught this would be a good choice. Is it?
@hawg427 The headstock size relating to sustain is debatable. From experience, the Fender Wide Range Humbuckers are brighter and probably not as hot and warm as the new Blacktop HB's. They are just different flavors. It's really up to your ears in the end. Thanks for watching,
I wonder how this one compares to the new Tele Blacktop Fender just came out with. Looks like the differences are the headstock, and the 12in neck radius ve the 9.5 on the lacktop. Pickups are diff. also. 72 Deluxe has Wide Range pups and the Blacktop has Alnico overwound HOT pups. If anyone has played both please let me know which oneis the better of the two.
I think it misses the "Tele" feel, since it pretty much has nothing to do with a telecaster. it's some kind of hybrid of fender and gibson, in the shape of something between the tele and the strat. It's probably a great guitar, it shouldn't be called a Telecaster.
Omfg..... you played Radiohead's high and dry at the end....
This is the exact guitar I've been looking for. Fender Jaguars and Jazzmasters are OK, but they are too big on me. Not to mention that the Jaguar frets are a bit to small for my hands.
is the neck like a tele neck or like a strat neck ? im used to a tele neck wich is flatter and wider than a strat neck, and when i tried strats i didnt like the neck
just got this... goes out of tune all the time.. mann all is great but the tuning problem is annoying and most important thing.. its all the time out of tune
i think its good that it got strat-headstock instead of tele- headstock. because i think the tele-headstock is ugly. i know many is disagree. but i think its ugly.
@3rl3ndh95 its basicly a strat with humbuckers and a tele shape body , i mean common , a strat neck , a strat trem , a tummy cut its an awesome mix of 3 iconic guitars though , the tele , the strat , and the gibson sg ( because of the two humbuckers )
Most Gibsons have a 12-12.5" radius. Fenders are usually like 9.5" and more rounded. That's on recent Gibsons though I'm not sure if you mean more vintage by "classic". In that case I have no idea. ha
@CaucasianTurk The trick to keeping a Fender in tune when using a whammy bar is to clean and lube your nut often. I use a tooth bruch to scrub the nut and nut sauce to keep it lubed. Mty strat works almost as well as a locking nut floyd. Before I learned this trick I wouldn't even install my whammy bar.
@1971SuperLead I would just replace the nut with a TusqXL nut. They are actually a bit brighter than bone and are impregnated with teflon so the strings glide through. I might also consider putting locking tuners on too. My HH Strat has those two things and it never goes out-of-tune, even after brutal EVH-type dive bomb stuff.
i order one of these, price $899.00 but on christmas week it had a 20% so it came to $720, now its back to regular price ,mus. friend, havent got here yet im from Puerto Rico, cant wait 2 use it on my peavey classic 30 stack
