umm actually the gas is just hydrogen gas whats left in the bottle is chlorine because whats happening is the hydrogen ions are separating from the chlorine the original gas was hydrochloric acid which is hydrogen chloride HCL when you add the aluminum the H separates and the CL is left alone thats the purple liquid you get its purple because of the dissolved metal
