  • This is my fav. Movie of all time. I always kill too watch this when it comes on tcm<33 Amazing movie this and boys town with spencer tracy.

  • Only film that makes me cry.

  • If any of you men are ever blessed with the love and worship of a boy,

whether its your own son or a fatherless neighborhood child you

mentor, never forget his sun rises and sets in you and, 50 years

later, in times of trouble or loneliness his thoughts will still go back

to your face, your voice, your big hand holding his small one, and

the bond you share will give him strength because he will know,

no matter what happens, that he holds a place in your heart.

I have one of those- my boy

  • @GooglFascists I'm glad you expressed it that way for all those guys who do take little men seriously. In my family the real fathers usually don't stay around but we've been blessed with guys along the way who took being a dad and grandad seriously and are proud of every father's day gift and appreciate every moment being the main man in a boys life

  • @GooglFascists Very Well said! I had a 10 year old boy in my neighborhood one summer who used to hang around me all the time when I was 15. Now 15 years latter he actually looked me up to Thank Me For Just simply being there for him that summer as his dad was not there for him growing up. Needless to say I had no idea until that moment how much of a difference I must have made in that boy's life. There are so many boys lost and hurting today in this country who need mentors!

  • One of the best, yet one of the most heartbreaking movies of all time.

  • These scenes from this movie have stayed with me since I first bought the movie on VHS and watched for the first time. Spencer Tracy's relationship with Freddie - words cannot express. Spencer Tracy represented the father-son relationship he had wanted with his father.

  • im only 16, and this is my favorite movie. it doesnt get better than this. <3

  • A beautiful film in all respects. Classic acting and storytelling making a memorable experience. They don't come any better than these two as actors.

  • This is a woonderful heartbreaking and tender scene.

  • @friendofthediva3

yes, i could watch it over and over, so touching and real, especially the last part when they do a close up of freddie's face, you can feel his love for manuel and manuel's for him when he says "my little fish". priceless scene in movie history.

  • I have a question. There's going to be a Captains Courageous festival in Gloucester, where I live. We did it last year, too.

Can someone recommend a scene where someone says something about coming back, or we're doing this again, or come join the festivities -- something along those lines?

  • This is a great movie for children , and adults . We forget how important roll models are to our children , we've all had one . Often we forget them sometimes , sadly .

  • This is one of the greatest movies ever made!!!

  • What a young Spencer Tracy! Thanks for posting this!

  • "I think, maybe, I gotta do some more kidding from now on, eh?" LOL.

  • The best film I never see... I'm only born in the 1967 but still remain on my soul... Thank's

  • IT will be hard to find better acting than this. There are only a few films with this quality acting.

  • @WACOAGENTS What about Tracy's hilariously bad accent?

  • @JuanMacready, are you an authority on accents? I don't know what's with you people who criticize his accent here. How many people have even heard a heavy Portuguese accent? Sheesh.
