Yes, you need an access point / wireless router of some sort. A wireless card that can emulate an access point will do as well. All Macs can do this for example.

You can download the DS apps from the website, put them on an sd/minisd/microsd card which goes into adapter card that goes into your DS.

You need an adapter card to run it on your DS. What's a DS MIDI card? That sounds interesting :)

For KaosDS the setup is the same but you have to assign it to some MIDI-controllable parameter in Live. You can do so by using the "MIDI" button on the upper right in Live, then selecing the parameter you want to control with kaosds and pressing X or Y on the DS, depending on what axis you want to control the patameter with.

Here's a short howto:

Start PulseDS, make sure it says "Running"

Start DSMIdiWifi Server

Start Live

In Live MIDI preferences, turn track and remote on for both DSMIDIWiFi input and output

Create a MIDI clip and enter some notes

For the MIDI track, set "MIDI to" to DSMIDIWiFi-in

Play the track

If it doesn't work, restart PulseDS

No, you only need a DSerial for hardware MIDI connections. You send MIDI signals with your computer using the DSMIDIWiFi software and some software that sends MIDI signals, like a sequencer.
