Personally, I thought the movie was excellent. And while that's my personal opinion, it's fairly obvious that people are way too sensitive these days.
You realize that the film does not intentionally make fun of the challenged...it makes fun of movies that extort them. Any actor knows that if they play in a drama depicting a mentally challenged or disabled person, they will be in line for an Oscar, and thats why film studio's do them. This movie picks on those studios that take advantage of that.

Japan did "female" facing in their traditional Kabuki opera shows. And to my knowledge, at least when tradition matters, still do not use females in it. I never watched all of White Chicks and I thought they were not being racist, just extremely stupid. However there was a movie, I am not sure of the name, the actor played in a series on PBS called Chef, a black theater man that ran into some trouble and turned himself into a white Italian (I think) mobster. Now that was a good movie.
I just did not find it all that funny. Maybe because the disk did not work and I had to get a new one, but regardless. To my memory, people were also protesting or at least leaving the movie due to the use of the word "nigger" or "nigga". And because Downy was doing black face. Now others can argue that never happened, but that is what I remember hearing from the news. Black facing came way before or when there were few black entertainers in movies and there were "Native American" facing as well
This movie was not really funny to begin with. I mean the best parts were the opening "movie" sequences, when Jack is tied to a tree and at the end when Downey was dressed as the enemy and killing stuff. Besides that I hardly laughed. But those three parts I just mentioned, especially the opening sequences, I watched over and over again!

After watching this, it would be more appropriately named 'Behind the Scenes'...didn't see any footage of people protesting in the video my friend, even IF you have a whole article about it in your notes. After all, this IS Youtube, not a blog. Just sayin...Anyhow, thanks for sharing. :)

You realize that the film does not intentionally make fun of the challenged...it makes fun of movies that extort them. Any actor knows that if they play in a drama depicting a mentally challenged or disabled person, they will be in line for an Oscar, and thats why film studio's do them. This movie picks on those studios that take advantage of that.

The other things you've mentioned are, yes, stereotypes. Although I think you misunderstand that what makes them stereotypes is the fact that they aren't true.
They are bigot filled characterizations meant to demean another, hiding behind the guise of humor.
However, when you make fun of the handicap, it isn't some silly untruth you can giggle away because you find it absurd, it's their life.

@diedahero Absolutely true, but my comment wasn't meant for the people with the syndrome because i doubt they find it insulting since they don't completely understand the situation. The people who take actions are the one trying to defend them. It's as if they find it insulting FOR them. But you're absolutely right. The people with down syndrome can't do anything about it. But like i said, this wasn't entirely directed towards them.

Well, according to the movie, it seems that the "mentally retarded" are stupid and are not capable of doing anything by themselves. This is not true. There are many people diagnosed with down syndrome that possess a very good education just like a normal person would.
What i meant by my past comment was that we shouldn't give a second thought about what people say or think about us.

Japan did "female" facing in their traditional Kabuki opera shows. And to my knowledge, at least when tradition matters, still do not use females in it. I never watched all of White Chicks and I thought they were not being racist, just extremely stupid. However there was a movie, I am not sure of the name, the actor played in a series on PBS called Chef, a black theater man that ran into some trouble and turned himself into a white Italian (I think) mobster. Now that was a good movie.

I just did not find it all that funny. Maybe because the disk did not work and I had to get a new one, but regardless. To my memory, people were also protesting or at least leaving the movie due to the use of the word "nigger" or "nigga". And because Downy was doing black face. Now others can argue that never happened, but that is what I remember hearing from the news. Black facing came way before or when there were few black entertainers in movies and there were "Native American" facing as well

This movie was not really funny to begin with. I mean the best parts were the opening "movie" sequences, when Jack is tied to a tree and at the end when Downey was dressed as the enemy and killing stuff. Besides that I hardly laughed. But those three parts I just mentioned, especially the opening sequences, I watched over and over again!

I don't get some people and why they are so sensitive. This movie is over top exaggeration which shouldn't be taken as offensive unless you really think that describes yourself. Be my guest and wallow in your own self pitiness. But otherwise I doubt it was meant to offend people. And those overly sensitive people if you are so, don't just pity yourself and laugh at other portray of other groups because you're just a contradiction.
But this movie is smart and funny. I love it.
