  • I'm trying to work with a hyper schnauzer/dachshund mix who is really sweet, but basic obedience is NOT my biggest concern. Despite the fact that she always has food and gets plenty of treats, toys, and Dentley bones, she loves to eat out of the litter box! It is GROSS, and I have no idea how to make her stop. My cat has to have access, but I really can't take picking any more cat crap out of her beard or finding random cat poop around the dog bed. HELP!!

  • Great video :) So helpful, thanks!

  • Thank you, Zak! :-)

  • You say stay and it freezes !!! ahahahhahaha

  • The part about stopping a broken stay is super helpful. Thanks.

  • My dog just wont stay with me.If he ever gets out he wont listen to me or nothing nobody at all HELP ME

  • Outstanding video.

  • Usually how long would it take to train a dog to stay? my dog is a little over 1 yrs old and he's driving me and my mom both nuts. I tried to train him stay today, he would listen when it was just me and him at home, but when my mom was there, he kept getting distracted D: And because of my temper, I got really mad at him...I wasn't able to catch him when he got distracted either, and when I did, he would try to bite me. He's a Pomeranian.

  • isn't the way you teach him kind of like the trick leave it? please answer

  • Before I learned about positive training, zaks correction of a broken stay seemed perfectly normal and appropriate. Now, however, it looks agressive and inappropriate. I love zak but I think he couldve done better on this vid. Sorry to let ya down zak :(

  • mate, you shouldnt even have stay as a command, you tell your dog to sit if it doesnt automatically stay then its not the sit command is it? same with down or stand or up, come is way more important because teaching your dog come out of the sit or the lay is bringing it out of stay aswell.

  • Thanks Zak this a great video

  • My dog just focuses more on whats on the ground

  • I always thought of stay as what you explained as stay with distance-glad I watched this

  • I just got a 2 month old puppy and I try to teach him stay but he focuses more on his nose then me any tips

  • dogs do NOT speak english, quit comparing them to a human child, they are a DOG not a BABY. they do wont know what you are saying so when you get on there "level" and start talking to them about "i mean business" they have no idea what u are saying and its completely useless, just like all your "dog training" videos :)

  • @SharifOcapan whats the difference between a puppy and a baby? they both dont understand what your saying, but they know its not something good since your in theyre "bubble" and his videos arent uselless at all, your point sucks so stop hating

  • Dog seems more interested in eating the treats than obeying.. not the best way to train your dog.

  • great video, I love you zak!

  • Ah ha! I needed this video. Thank you!!!

  • which is easier to train border collie or labrador????????? pls. help

  • @MegaSeawood depends

  • thing is its easy cause u got one of the smartest dogs border collies are really inteligent

  • Good

  • hi i want to knw how can i train my dog to stay or to come i mean when i bring i dog for a walk and i let him go he dont want to come back and i have to run to cacht him

  • I just adopted a 6 month jack russell/dachshund mix. I've taught him sit, paw, lie down and jump up. Other than this video stay, what should I do next?

  • @HandiMandiFP Touch, roll over, fetch, sit pretty. :P So many things~

  • Thanks for the helpful video.

  • such a cute dog

  • Nice gameboy quality

  • Nice, now I know everything to train a dog...... let's try with my modafucker gold fis

  • can u teach me to tell my dog to sit lay jump and stay plzzzzz.

  • I disagree with the stay command because every command is a "stay" command. When you teach sit, what are you teaching if they do not stay sitting? If you teach come what are you teaching if they do not stay next to you when they come to you? There is no need for a stay command if you train the other commands well.

  • @Rioku1 As well thought out as your comment is, your are mostly incorrect. The "stay" command is used, for instance, if you are giving your dog a bath, and you hear the oven beep. You tell them "stay" so they won't follow you elsewhere.

  • @otterblade Thanks for your reply, and you have come up with a good example. If you follow the set of commands that defines each command as a very specific set of rules then you would not need to tell your dog to say. You would tell your dog to "place" or sit in the bath, then your dog would know that they supposed to sit and stay until you free them or give another command. This type of training is not for everyone because it requires more effort on each command and more attention to detail.

  • i just rescued a 8-12mo female pit that is fixed. how do i teacher to calm down?

  • We've just started working on training our second puppy, and I thought I'd say these are the best training videos I've come across. You have a knack for teaching and you're great with the breakdowns. Thank you!

  • when do you start to train your pup? I have a 6 week yr old border collie. She's going to be a smarty!

  • nice eye bags

  • the first important thing to teach your dog is its name!

  • another thing my dog is about 2 years old. is that to old to start and i have another dog that is about 5 years old but they will not listen the 2 year old runs out of the house and the other one barks when we start a four wheeler or i walk my other dog and its very loud and annoying bark do oyou know how i can stop this and yes you can make a video

  • When you train your dog "stay" with distance, if your dog breaks "stay" while he's several meters away from you, what should you do than to stop him if he runs toward the road or other people/dogs?

  • Probably not a great idea to click your clicker that close to the dogs ear.

  • can you teach an old dog well she isnt old but isnt a puppy i cant keep her to stay in the yard or come or to stop using our house as a toilet i need help

  • @randomguy10114 make rules like stand in a doorway every time she trys to come through put your body infront of her and simple do it over till she respects your space this will not permanently keep her out so no worrys wont scaring her away from the area if you would like I can make a video for you I am currently working the same situation with my 9 year old Border Collie Labrador Retriever cross no problem just reply back and I will it will be named How To Set Boundary's With A Dog

  • @AmericanPitbulls1 I ment to say at the end reply back and I will make a video it will be named the name

  • awww this makes me want my puppy even more..i can't get him until two weeks from now..but your vids are helping to prepare me for him

  • @lolosofli good luck with your puppy when you do get him, cause that is the best friend a person can have! and i really really like that you are preparing for your new friend allready :D cause a lot of people get a puppy and don't know what to do.. :D

    DOGS ARE AWESOME!!

  • @pakicA thanks! I am excited and I just want to be the best "mommy" I can be! I even brought some of Dr Sophia Yin's books on dog training.

  • @lolosofli first thing dogs are dogs not babys the most troubled dog owners are the mommys not the owners so please think of you puppy as a puppy not a baby they are very much different so please dont make that mistake

  • @AmericanPitbulls1 I know dogs are dogs and trust me I am learning everything I can about dogs. I was just joking geesh. At least I am making an effort to learn all I can about dogs b/c a lot of people don't and get frustrated when the dog isn't what they dreamed of and end up tossing it aside..That's why I am committed to learning as much as I can and I know it's going to be a huge commitment but I am up for the challenge! :D

  • @AmericanPitbulls1 Yeah I guess it sounded kinda mean I wasnt putting quiet that way in my mind sorry

  • @lolosofli sorry not trying to be mean just saying sorry if I came off as a know it all I have some training videos if you want to check them out hope you forgive me but why wouldn't you haha love that you are preparing that is great what kind of dog I recommend checking a local shelter first just to see that is if you haven't got a dog yet, I have my dogs from shelters but one is a unwanted litter kinda thing and my shelter dogs are better cause they have known unwanted abuse but then they love

  • @AmericanPitbulls1 it's cool and I will def will check out your videos! Oh it's a cocker spaniel and i am adopting him from a rescue shelter. He was found on the side of the highway with his brothers-one of them was already dead-road-kill..it's so sad like dude he is only 9 weeks!!! come on now. And if I have any questions I will def inbox you! Thanks! :)

  • @lolosofli Great congrats on rescuing a life and I have some videos not very good just got a new camera huray for me I was using all I had witch was a ipod touch 4g so a flip camera is alot better plus I dont have to restart a video so I can go from seeing myself to seeing nothing haha so you are free to still watch the others but I am redoing them tomorrow oh were do you live cause it is almost 2 in the morning here oh thanks again for giving my videos a chance Zak says the first is the worst

  • @lolosofli oh yeah if you have any questions for Zak I speak with him alot at about 4 in the morning so any questions just ask me and I will pass it on he is the best I can get a little upset with my dogs but I love them so I will just leave the room mine are only 7 and 8 months old I adopted them at 6 and 9 weeks my RedBone CoonHound was from a breeder that could not properly find homes and the one I got at 6 weeks was a farm dogs puppies that mixed with the work dog oh he is a Aussie Border Co

  • Thanks Zak, I like your approach and your delivery. We just got our Vizsla pup and I started looking online for puppy training videos and happened upon some of yours. I'll start practicing the Stay command tomorrow!

  • Will be getting a puppy soon! so far your videos are very good! like the way you explain things clearly!

  • @kute1livn4jc So am i ! im getting a puppy soon.Hopefully a shih tzu!

  • @xxrantaxx my uncle has shih tzus be sure to take care of the coat as soon as you get him or her makes it a lot easier later hope it helps a little and is great bonding practice

  • I will be a first time dog owner in less than a week. Thanks for the help! Truly appreciated.

  • my dog is just like the Honey Badger crazy, nasty, badass and just doesn't give a shit ...

    : /

  • @ariannaisthebestable If it is all about pets... they should sell it... only pet stores or pet centres have them...

  • whats the clicker?

  • @BeatlesGirl707 Is it your dog being distracted, or just not looking at you. They're two different things. Dogs use looking away as a calming signal, to tell the other dog or person that they're uncomfortable and to settle down. It is a misconception that the dog is doing it to act dominant. Another reason the dog could be looking away is because you're associating looking at you with punishment. If you use punishment it is important not to force your dog to look at you. Cont.....

  • @MelodyPythonVeria If the dog is distracted than it's probably because of one or both of these reasons. One, you aren't using a treat that is reinforcing enough. If the dog doesn't care about the reward than they'll be more likely to get distracted. Two, you're doing this excersize in stimulating areas before working on it in simpler places, such as your house. There are so many things to look at and sniff outside, where as they know the inside of the house. Cont........

  • @MelodyPythonVeria As for agression, what kind of agression. I find that most agression comes from situations that the dog isn't comfortable with. So if your dog bites someone when they go to pet its head than the dog is uncomfortable about people petting them on the head. You need to work on whatever it is that makes your dog show agression and change their emotional response to it from being scared or nervous (causing agression) to being happy, or at least content. Cont......

  • @MelodyPythonVeria And the anxiousness when getting treats is maybe because you punished your dog for accidentally nipping your fingers. Food is exciting, so dogs may accidentally nip. You need to try to stop this. Since your dog is a smaller breed their bites probably don't do much damage. Give your dog a treat, but if they accidentally get your fingers don't let them have the treat, pull it away before they can get it. Also, if they look over excited when they reach to get it pull it away.

  • Some dogs do learn things quicker than others though.

  • whats up zak, can i use these videos to train my seven month old cane corso

  • awesum for showing a "broken stay" corrections. I cudnt find that in any other video. Thank you much mr zak ;)

  • My dog is lovely! She's a rescue puppy and at 4 months was very obedient and learned 14 tricks quickly. At 5 months now, she's just getting into the slightly hyper state as she nears her first season, but we'll start taking her to puppy classes if she gets too OTT.

  • Love your video.

  • good thinking zak

  • I love it! and such gentle firm discipline~ we are looking at getting a pup soon and look forward to watching these vids with our children. :) Thx for posting!

  • nice video, im actually having a hard time with my dog, he's an american bulldog, 4mos. old, everytime i try to play with him he tries to bite me. what should i do? I hope you could help me with this. thank you so much.

  • I'm in love with your way to train dogs

  • what is that stuff ? clip ?

  • @MrMraHHao it's a clicker. you can buy it from a pet shop or at amazon.

  • Great stuff!!!

Zak I am using your techniques on our newly acquired rescue dog. He is a Short-haired German Pointer about 18 mths old with a lovely nature but untrained. We are having GREAT success following your advice!! I love your warm attitude.. fab clips.. been a great help. Thanks for your great work.

  • seriously man. you rock.

  • Excellent Thanks! I will definitely give that a go. She has got much better over the past couple of weeks, I think she may have got used to being trained, she was scared of training at first, i think she thought she was in trouble with me or something.

  • OMG AREN'T YOU ON ANIMAL PLANET?!

  • My dog does not accept treats. Just turns head away. How do you deal with that eh?

  • how do you train a puppy to their necessity in the right place, i don't know what I'm doing wrong ... i have the pad , i take him out after he eats and he does his thing , but after he comes in sometimes he pees inside but not in his pad

  • I can't train my dogs because when ever say sit, lay, stay or such they just lay down for a belly rub.

  • @Peacedancer209 Same here. My dog is not interested in treats like this. This dog just wants a treat for anything. Mine does want a treat for anything. My dog just skulks off, training my dog is like abusing it. She just shits herself every time I try basic training.(Not literally)

  • @DHFrame Not all dogs are food motivated. Your dog might respond well to toys or even praise. My dog has these little squeaky balls that are really high value to him. That is his "treat". My sisters dog is really rewarded by having someone pet her, so that is her "treat". Different dogs have different things they value, just as people. Some people might feel rewarded going out to a good steak & lobster dinner, but as a vegetarian, that is of little value to me. I would prefer a cheese pizza

  • @DHFrame You need to find out what really motivates your dog and what is of high value to her. It doesn't have to be treats. OR, maybe you need a higher value treat that you use specifically for training. Something irresistible like tiny pieces of warm, boiled chicken.

  • @lrosmond I started to train her last night to stay, she will sit on command, as soon as you make any kind of movement natural she runs, innocently, to carry on. I started to teach her to stay, slowly and by holding her collar, she gets it, but its a real unpleasant experience for her. I will stay patient, hope the fear will pass once she knows what to do. What's happening is whenever I try and train her she gets scared and walks on her belly to the nearest hiding place to get away.

  • @DHFrame When I trained my dog to stay, I started out with her on leash. I told her to sit and then to stay while she was in a heel position. Mind you, I was training to do obedience shows at the time. Then I would pivot to stand in front of her. I'd stay there for a few seconds, return to heel position and reward her for staying. Gradually, we increased the time standing away and the distance from her until we got to the end of the 6 ft leash. If she moved, we gently put her back with the leash

  • @Peacedancer209 I had a similar problem. I don't know your dogs but what worked for me was u get a treat and when they lay down tell them no sit and hold the treat over their head (be patient) The moment they sit up a little as to go after the food. reward them...then take it step by step. You can try putting the treat by their nose then putting it over their head so they will go after it. Then when they got sit they u can do stay and lay is easy when ever they lay down for a belly rub say lay

  • you're an excellent trainer :)

  • u are a really good trainer i can tell all your dogs are well behavied and listen very attentively

  • 0:25 ahh!!!! good video..thanx..

  • my dog can roll over and come and BIT OF STAY

  • I love how he talks to it like a human.

"Alright buddy, I mean it, don't you break stay.. Do you understand?"

"This is the I mean business pay attention.. this could save your life"

    :-D

  • @unityspirit51 Damn straight....most people who call their dogs stupid shouldn't own dogs

  • @plwl19 lol like the dog knows what stupid means lollzzz

  • @bkzzxlilxthug Mental capacities (just like everything else around you) are defined by humans so, no, they don't know what the term "stupid" is...however, people who say their dog is dumb just doesn't know how to train their dog and therefore shouldn't own one.

  • fack you

     :D

  • I think I saw this dude on TV??? Am I mistaken?

  • @nybombs nope, he was on TV :)

  • @nybombs He's on Animal Planet.

  • my dog is stupid and so am i :)

  • @JoePlaya87 perfect union

  • Thanks for the help with these videos! The one thing I didn't quite catch is how long do you do these training sessions for with your dog?

  • @LordShadowDragon Usually about 3-5 mins each time. Then take a break and let the dog play a bit. You don't want to over work the dog. Plus you don't want to frustrate yourself. As soon as the dog senses your frustration the dog goes into panic mode of sort and thinks you are angry. The dog will no longer obey.

  • @Cybergothchicky69 Thank you so much :) that was really helpful

  • @LordShadowDragon Glad to help.

  • thank you, my dog now learns to sit stay and come :)

  • i mean which breed?

  • what type of breed is ur dog?

  • thx your great!

  • Comment removed

  • @unityspirit51 Your saying that because your dog is trained

  • @lemmehaviet Still not a good reason to call your dog stupid.

  • what did you record this with? a blender?

  • @unityspirit51

dude you should tread your dog like a friend and good friends are honest with each other

  • it takes time

  • Is there a video that teaches boundaries to the dogs?

I have a big ass yard, both front and back. And the people I got my Golden puppy from had trained their adult Golden(the mom) to go piss and shit in the woods at the edge of their yard, but also taught the mom to not go too far.

And I just got back from tracking my dog down, because he got away from me and run down my road, across the street and through some woods(remote area, now worries). I had to follow his paw prints to find him.

  • This guy is good. Many kudos.

  • My dog is a year old... Will this work on her?

  • @TheAGdollLuvr it worked on my dog ....so why not :D

  • you know kikopup (i think thats her name) thinks this is punishment and too physical. personally i think there are times to touch the dog and times to use positive reinforcement. here your using both but i think its appropriate.

  • @josski32 While it may be appropriate, why use a form of punishment when you don't have to? Kikopup made a response video in which she taught a stay to her dog without punishment. So, why bother punishing when it's just as easy to train the same behavious without it?

  • @MelodyPythonVeria that's true. but i still like zak george. just not this movie :(

  • how do you get your dog to know the difference between commands with the same hand signals like hi five and stay?

  • @arisavee I would make high five by putting your hand down but palm up and stay with your hand up but palm towards it. hope that makes sense :P

  • @unityspirit51 i agree!! its not the dogs fault that he/she doesn't understand what there trying to teach him/her.

  • Ok so I have a 11 month old English bulldog but he gets extremely excited when anyone out of my family gets near him to the point where he won't listen to any simple commands like sit how can I calm him down so he won't jump on them or stuff like that?

  • ya loko dont call your dog stupid.u have 2 find a way 2 teach him a way that he likes a fun way

  • i tried this, but everytime my dog sees that i have food, she automatically sits and shakes and sits up and won't listen. and when i toss the food and hold her down, she doesn't even look at me, she just looks and whimpers at the food :\

  • Thanks for your advice! This helped my dog stay and she barely listens to us!

  • By real meat do you mean flesh meat? I don't understand...

  • @96MIXA No, he means actual human food kind of meat, not a dog treat or something. Like pieces of chicken, or hot dog.

  • @PaigIsSuper

aaaa..... Now i get it! tnx for the help! :)

  • @PaigIsSuper

But i heard that giving your dog human food is bad for them. Is that true?

  • @96MIXA that is also what i have heard. i give my dog a bone every once in a while though.

  • thank you thank you thank you!! I love all your helpful advice... I've always enjoyed training my dogs and you have given me a leg up (ha) and extra confidence and solid techniques!

  • @BeatlesGirl707 when you offer a treat to a dog, the dog should turn his head away and avoid that hand where the treat is. this is important especially in families where there are also children.

  • @BeatlesGirl707 Your dog (or i should yourself) needs cesar millan's help. The thing that is wrong with your dog is that his owner is not projecting the right energy. Calm and assertive is the way to go in life, with our dogs, kids,jobs...etc. Think about that :)

  • My Pom comes 75% of the time; he doesn't come when he's eating something he shouldn't or is barking at another dog and stays 70% or so of the time and I didn't know how to go about fixing the problem of him moving but now I do =D

  • Comment removed

  • your eyes r so pretty

  • thanks so much! my black lab really needs to learn this :P

  • Thanks I will try to teach my German Shepherd puppy to stay with this video! Keep up the videos!

  • oh shut up and get with the vid

  • i really like your vids but wont placing your hands on them like a bear hug be seen as affection and agreeing with that behaviour

  • Thank-you :) Subscribed.

  • thank you george ^_^

  • i looked in my dogs face now iam in intensive care my bad i was drunk it turned out to be the neighboors bulldog lol joke kidding

  • this is amazing

  • You touch him too much....one of these days he might just turn those "touches" to you!! I would have hit you if you'd grab me like that!

  • Naw well its actually teaching the dog its name ! cuz the dog wudnt stay if you didnt know its name !

  • Thanks a lot man :)

  • So wait... they should learn sit first? I thought stay was the first command! Oh, whatever, the video still helped a lot. thanks! :]

  • Thank you so much!!!!

  • I'm gonna start training my dogs and get a new "leash" on life.

  • Took my Boxer pup no more than 3 minutes to catch on to this. Thank you for the great technique.

P.S. I'm using all your methods without the clicker and they seem to be all working. I've just replaced it with a very playful "good boy" response. Can this have bad repercussions later down the track?

  • SuperNova for a dog's name?....

Oh my gosh man you gave me the name of my next dog !!!

lulz ;D probably just kidding but I dunno

  • hey thanks for this video...it works and he stays when i tell him but once he sees a cat he ignores me and tries to chase it and if there is a fence in front of him he still jumps it even if i say no....can you help, please?

  • if u think ur dog is stupid.ur wrong u have to find treats he actually likes.now u dont necessaraly have to train them a specific way kinda do it ur own way and have lots of patience

  • Good, sound technique. Thank you.

  • This really helps...thanks :D

  • my buddy and I found a puppy wondering in a forest and we saved him. I wanna keep him but he seems to go to my buddy all the time, as he was the one that saved him. Should I adopt this dog? his not really responsive to me

    thxx

  • 2:35 = Brownie points!

  • Thanks for making your clicker video PRIVATE! How am I supposed to learn to clicker train now!?!?!?

  • Damn that's a cool dog, I wish I could have one, but I feel bad about making one stay in my small ass apartment while I'm running around.

  • I hope this works ..... my dog is attacking a sock

  • @XxBeaniestarxX same here, but with my pjs!

  • thanks for the cool video
