@DougieNeish its actually just minor and major pentatonic scales, the key is the phrasing. I listen a lot to guitar players as you can probably hear;-)

@DougieNeish +1 all in phrasing! The best players can make two notes sound amazing for 5 minutes. Can't remember who but there was a famous sax solo where he played literally one note for the whole of his solo.
