(continued) AND worst of all, irrelevant scenes and sentences are just thrown in random places! (for example: the scene where Harry is in the café (totally irrelevant!),
(continued) the scene where Bellatrix Lestrange and Fenrir Grayback attacks the Weasley house (where is that in the book? and why didn't they cut that and instead have the fight at Hogwarts in the movie?), the sentence where Dumbledore asks Harry if he and Hermione has something going on and the sentence where Dumbledore tells Harry to shave (where the heck did that line come from???)
okay movies are made to cater to the biggest audience as possible, which means that some SEEMINGLY irrelevant scenes have to be added. a director needs to emphasize some points for people who see the movie and do not read the books. a movie will never follow a book exactly, stop whining about it. i really hate people like you who think your knowledge of a book makes you allknowing. seriously, shut up and get over it
THANK YOU. That's exactly what I've been trying to explain to Mygreenbanana. They don't understand that director's and filmmakers have to add scenes and take away scenes sometimes. That that is how movies which cover a book sometimes have to go. People are so frustrating.
My friend said it best when she summed up my love/hate relation for the movie, "as a movie itself, it's great. But as a representation of Harry Potter, it's crap." So now I understand my love/hate relation with the movie... so... I love it lots more now ^_^
I loved it too, but I was saddened by how short the Attack On Hogwarts part of it was. I also realised as the movie started that I haven't read the 6th book since it came out, and I don't remember a lot.
I agree, I was kinda let down at the end. There was supposed to be this huge battle inside Hogwarts and the Deatheaters just came in, did what they did, and walked out. I know they probably did it just to PG it down, but it makes me a litle worried about the last movie.
regarding thoughts on hbp being an 'abridged' version: LIKED the way alan rickman delivered his snape lines, so that there's still this ambiguity about the morality of snape.
It sets the scene for DH and good Snape very nicely. And the way slughorn slips in the Regulus Black namedrop in the beginning so later in DH there's continuity!
I agree with your opinion on HBP. The book was my favourite in the series because we saw them be teenagers and actually live, and when saw that in the film, and the trio actually looked like real best friends in the film, and I found that fantastic.
Btw, Peanut butter is only 12% protein. So, (since people are supposed to get between 15-30% of their calories from protein), actually isn't a good source at all. Most bread has more protein thean peanut butter.
That being said, peanut butter is still awesome and so was this video.
I also loved the movie. Some people I saw it with didn't agree, but they basically don't know that you have to change a good book to make it into a good movie.
half blood prince was good, but after rave reviews I had higher expectations..I kind of would have liked it if they made half blood prince two movies..they could have included the story about voldemort's mom and the battle at the end, plus add in thw whole quiiditch game..then they could slpit it into two
I don't agree that they cut out all the big important stuff and key points, but you guys all have to understand that they can't put EVERYTHING in the movie. First there is the time and budget they have to make it and then they have to make it interesting for the audience, which would sometimes even mean cutting out the big important scenes.
Oh yes there is. Every movie, no matter how big or popular, has a budget. You can't just spend millions of dollars on a movie, that's not how it works. You have a budget and then you have the limited amount of time to make the movie on that budget, so sometimes when you cut out scenes, you get more money, because you spend less time. It's a process.
No. I never had a question about it. I said that I didn't agree that they cut the important stuff out, but I understand why they had to. So it wasn't a question.
Excuse me, but you are being very rude. I'm not whining about anything. I'm simply explaining something so that people understand and you just refuse to be nice about it and you won't let me explain. Oh and the next time you want to be rude to someone, you should try and spell words like sympathize right, otherwise no one will take you seriously.
I'm not trying to teach anyone what they should say or what they should know. I Love the Harry Potter movies. They're great and I'm not the one that is upset that they left out anything, but some people are like that. Some people read the book and when they see the movie, they are upset and don't understand that you have to leave some things out because of time and money. I'm simply and NICELY explaining why they do that and you are being very rude by not letting me just nicely explain.
I dunno if that was directed at me or not, but if so I apologize for the confusion. My comments were directed towards someone else that decided to rudely tell me that I shouldn't express my opinion. Again, I apologize!
It's alright. I am also being being rudely told off by someone who is telling me not to express my opinion. So I think I also accidentally directed that toward you and I'm also very sorry. I guess you and I are in the same boat when it comes to people who are rude to us and don't respect opinions. Good luck with your rude person =D I'll try and get rid of mine as well =D
Okay. Let's call a truce and let bygones be bygones. Even if we have different opinions, let's be friends. =] But I'm not overly sensitive, I am just overly Defensive when it comes to what I think about things.
That film was just a dumbed - down hollywood interpretation on a good english childrens book - seriously though, any conversation that surpassed three sylables was cut out - oh yeah and the girl who plays ginny is not allowed to call herself an actress in my opinion, ok maybe thats harsh - she can call herself an extremeley terrible actress if she wants.
I agree that it was much better than OotP but I still didn't think it was that good. I mean that did a better job of getting the plot across but I still don't feel that they made it across that well. It was extreamly funny though and it was very enjoyable. What really got me was the adding stuff and than cutting out key points. I hate when movies do that. >:^C
Yeah, but her hair was supposed to be like that. It's brown in the books too because she's so depressed about Sirius dying (and she thinks it's her fault) so she actually lost her ability to change the color. It's directly from the book.
u kno what rele annoyed me about the movie? like alot? TONKS HAIR WASNT COLORFUL! it was brown! this is unacceptable! haha its like u wouldnt kno she was tonks if u didnt kno who tht actress was or they didnt address her by her name.
haven't seen the Half-Blood Prince movie yet 'cause I'm going with friends on Tuesday. All hyped up and excited about it though, I reckon i'll like it, cause I love the Order of the Pheonix movie. Half-Blood Prince was an awesome book though. <3

I paused the video halfway through for a peanut butter break. Yay vegetarianism! Half-Blood Prince was my favorite HP book as well. And I loved the movie :)
HBP is my favourite book too! The only thing that I was really, REALLY, choked about in the movie was that they didn't have Dumbledore's funeral. It just seemed like such a perfect pre-constructed conclusion that the fact that they made a different conclusion bothered me.
A junk food-eating vegetarian who loves Half-Blood Prince the most of all. One of my favorite things about YouTube is that I get to find out that there are so many people like me. (In the good way, not in the no one should ever be unique way. It can sounds like that sometimes.)
I totally agree, although they did cut a lot of stuff out and even changed some stuff, the stuff that stayed the same was EXACTLY the same. Half-Blood Prince is my favorite book as well.
Dude, I love junk food and I'm a vegetarian too. My parents made me quit being a veggie because they didn't think I was getting enough protein and what not.
I thought the film was brilliant and stunning and funny and cool. But there's no way anyone who hasn't read every one of the Harry Potter books will understand it.
I did VBS with my friends church and I still know the dances... I think dancing and singing was my favorite part... :) I also love HBP... It was soooooo good in my opinion because I didn't think it would be good at all either... HBP is my all time FAVORITE!!!
Half-Blood Prince was my favorite book too, so I was actually surprised at how non-fail it was. Like there was fail, it wasn't as fail as it could have been.
The thing about the harry potter movie, was it was already really really long. If the movie had any more information stuffed into it it would just be annoyingly long as I almost found it to be already. If you hadn't read the books in a while the movie is actually rather good and I think that people should be a little more understanding about the time it takes to make things and the amount of things that can be put within a couple of hours in a movie.
my family's having a hard time understanding why it's my favorite, because they thought the others were better (because they haven't read the books)
but that's just it, for once, they actually TOLD the story, and left little things in, and the characters were actually who they were supposed to be for once. gahhh i loved it.
please someone tell me where I can read about all the differences between movie/book. I saw the movie and (as you mentioned) for example I have no clue about the half blood prince thing. he finds the book at 5:00 and then at the end the teacher says "I am the..." and thats it. I still wonder why they named the book after this detail of half blood prince thinging
I think it's funny that the movie is called "HP and the Half Blood Prince" even though they did not explain it (but they don't have much choice in the title). Snape's mother's maiden name was Prince and his father was a muggle while his mother, a witch. Hence he is the Half Blood Prince.
Technically you only have to read the sixth book to understand the answer to your question. But they are all great books and EXTREMELY easy reads. So if you're not willing to read a few measly pages (and yes, 2800 whatever is not very many considering how much you should read in a lifetime) then you really should not even be interested in Harry Potter. After all, it was the books that created the Harry Potter phenomena, which in turn created the movies, thereby sparking your interest.
Also, the reason the book is names Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, is because, in the book, it is not a detail at all, but revolves mainly around the potions book of the Half-Blood Prince and Dumbledore and Harry finding the Horcruxes.
And besides, summer is the perfect time for enjoyable reading. Just try it....I swear, it is virtually painless.
Last summer I was a camp counselor. After staff training the first week was day camps-basically VBS. There were 4 of us in my group, none of which had ever run VBS (though 1 had counseled previous yrs, she'd always come after day camps). We had to organize nearly everything-the only thing any parents were there for besides drop off/pick up was snack time. With 40+ kids any given day, we had our hands full. It was worth it in the end though-and definitely good practice for the rest of the summer!
Yes, I know. But I'm not a vegetarian on principal-- I just tried to prove to my mother when I was five that I could be a vegetarian, and I'm so used to it that I never stopped.
I feel like I am the only person on planet earth that likes the Order of the Phoenix movie lol. I mean YES it may be missing brain tanks and time turners, but that's ok, the book survived.
Then you have scenes that shouldn't happen like the burrow burning down, death eaters entering Hogwarts with no apparent purpose, and Harry being left in the dark having no idea what the hell the horcruxes might be.
I DID like the movie for what it is but I don't see why people think it's so much better.
2 and a half years later... I completely agree with your opinions on HBP in comparison with OotP.

i felt they wasted way to much time on who likes who or is dateing who, or wants to date who.
Very disapointing, seems to me they kinda did a sub standart job and figured the name itself would sell the movie and didnt bother to make it decent.
way to many things left unexplained that should of been.

You're so adorable, Hayley! :) You can definitely rock the pink hair.
I personally loved the movie. I agree with you, that even though they had to cut stuff out, it still *was* the book.
inkstainedpages 2 years ago
I totally agree, although they did cut a lot of stuff out and even changed some stuff, the stuff that stayed the same was EXACTLY the same. Half-Blood Prince is my favorite book as well.

Dude, I love junk food and I'm a vegetarian too. My parents made me quit being a veggie because they didn't think I was getting enough protein and what not.

I thought the film was brilliant and stunning and funny and cool. But there's no way anyone who hasn't read every one of the Harry Potter books will understand it.

I like your explanation of the movies and you're right Harry potter 6 is one of my all time favorite books EVER!

I know what you mean. I eat peanut all the time and my mom yells at me. <3<3

I did VBS with my friends church and I still know the dances... I think dancing and singing was my favorite part... :) I also love HBP... It was soooooo good in my opinion because I didn't think it would be good at all either... HBP is my all time FAVORITE!!!

I love eating organic peanut butter straight from the jar. :)

I actually never liked the 6th book. Thought it was more boring of the other 6. Anyways, I thought the movie was good. Not disapointing.
Maybe I should re-read the 6th book. I only had once.

The Hobo Oath warrants ridiculous giggles. Awesome. :)

Half-Blood Prince was my favorite book too, so I was actually surprised at how non-fail it was. Like there was fail, it wasn't as fail as it could have been.
...Does anyone get that?

I get it. By the by, I LOVE your username.

1, Product placement or not, JIF is the best peanut butter.
2. "Graveyard" is the best VBS game ever invented. You should try it with your kids if you haven't already.
chinareds54 2 years ago
Hayley, I feel your pain about VBS. I dealt with pre-K kids and all that was was screaming.

Hayley, darling - for your protein needs, you needs some Quorn!! <3

Vegetarian food is actually full of protein.

I was happily surprised by the movie as well. I hated the 5th movie and so I wasn't expecting too much from this one, but it wasn't terrible.

i was pissed that they cut the whole ministry plot line out
PaperBuddy 2 years ago 3
That was odd. Everything else on my computer froze when I came to watch this video, and as soon as it finished everything unfroze.
And yes! HBP was amazing! I'm so happy they left in the Canaries. Although I'm sad they left out the "Weasley is our King" song.
Munks585 2 years ago
The thing about the harry potter movie, was it was already really really long. If the movie had any more information stuffed into it it would just be annoyingly long as I almost found it to be already. If you hadn't read the books in a while the movie is actually rather good and I think that people should be a little more understanding about the time it takes to make things and the amount of things that can be put within a couple of hours in a movie.

I agree with you on HBP. I was really nervous going to see it too and was so happy with it!
KaylaCakes87 2 years ago
ahh yes, what you said about the movie, EXACTLY.
my family's having a hard time understanding why it's my favorite, because they thought the others were better (because they haven't read the books)
but that's just it, for once, they actually TOLD the story, and left little things in, and the characters were actually who they were supposed to be for once. gahhh i loved it.

please someone tell me where I can read about all the differences between movie/book. I saw the movie and (as you mentioned) for example I have no clue about the half blood prince thing. he finds the book at 5:00 and then at the end the teacher says "I am the..." and thats it. I still wonder why they named the book after this detail of half blood prince thinging
Fensterplaetzchen 2 years ago
spoiler alert:
I think it's funny that the movie is called "HP and the Half Blood Prince" even though they did not explain it (but they don't have much choice in the title). Snape's mother's maiden name was Prince and his father was a muggle while his mother, a witch. Hence he is the Half Blood Prince.
Anyways that's what i was told
RedHeadExitting 2 years ago
Perhaps you should read the book? It's explained in there.
xxGrey 2 years ago
Just read the book. It's all in there.
wanderingwriter33 2 years ago
yeah right, I'm totally going to read 223 + 251 + 317 + 636 + 766 + 607 = 2800 pages to find out. (hey cool number of pages!)
Fensterplaetzchen 2 years ago
Technically you only have to read the sixth book to understand the answer to your question. But they are all great books and EXTREMELY easy reads. So if you're not willing to read a few measly pages (and yes, 2800 whatever is not very many considering how much you should read in a lifetime) then you really should not even be interested in Harry Potter. After all, it was the books that created the Harry Potter phenomena, which in turn created the movies, thereby sparking your interest.

Spoiler:
Also, the reason the book is names Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, is because, in the book, it is not a detail at all, but revolves mainly around the potions book of the Half-Blood Prince and Dumbledore and Harry finding the Horcruxes.
And besides, summer is the perfect time for enjoyable reading. Just try it....I swear, it is virtually painless.
wanderingwriter33 2 years ago
or you could just read the sixth book or try to find the part where it is explained in there so you won't have to read 2,800 pages.

It was worth it in the end though-and definitely good practice for the rest of the summer!

you know s'mores aren't vegetarian right?
vegetarianjello 2 years ago
How?
orbital151 2 years ago
Marshmallows have gelatin. Gelatin is usually made of animal bones, tendons or cartilage. Sometimes it's a by-product of pig skin.
The only reason I brought it up is because Hayley keeps track of how many s'mores she has had in her blog.
vegetarianjello 2 years ago
I seeee.

Yes, I know. But I'm not a vegetarian on principal-- I just tried to prove to my mother when I was five that I could be a vegetarian, and I'm so used to it that I never stopped.

Darsoid 2 years ago
I THINK what I mean is I liked HBP but I don't see why OotP gets so much smack compared to this one in a way.
MelPuff 2 years ago
But I DID really appreciate the small details and the witty dialogue. Still, just saying.
MelPuff 2 years ago
I feel like I am the only person on planet earth that likes the Order of the Phoenix movie lol. I mean YES it may be missing brain tanks and time turners, but that's ok, the book survived.
Then you have scenes that shouldn't happen like the burrow burning down, death eaters entering Hogwarts with no apparent purpose, and Harry being left in the dark having no idea what the hell the horcruxes might be.
I DID like the movie for what it is but I don't see why people think it's so much better.
