  • i think this role, the runthrough is the hard one. the f is relatively easy for them cause it is one note and u sing as u go up

  • this role requires a lot of breath. so some ppl rush and their f is so squeaky cause no breath. some ppl slow down to reach their f..for me, sumi

  • sills/popp/moser/peters/dessay/damrau

  • My favorite is June Anderson!

  • Sills/Moser/Deutekom

  • For me, Luciana Serra is the best!!!!

  • my favorite will always be roberta peters!! her tone is perfect and each note is effortless!

  • Sumi Jo and Natalie Dessay were both FLAWLESS. Diana Damrau sounded like she was about to faint from lack of oxygen!

  • @bandchickusus i disagree.. what diana does is called: ACTING

  • And after all that, I still think Diana Damrau is the Queen of all Queens. I love a legitimately sung and vibrant high F.

  • I just can't believe how Dessay is underrated. Ok, I haven't read all the commentaries, but, jesus: Diana Damrau... pfff.

Dessay has the most subtle voice and interpretation.

CRISTINA DEUTEKOM RULES!!!!

    Salu2.

  • Lo mejor para el final

  • You have to bow to Mozart for creating the music that lets us enjoy these great singers, Some of these 20 I like better, some less, but if only the rendition I like least were to exist, I would still love this miraculeus piece of music. Being in my late fifties I've grown up with the sopranos that were at the top in the seventies. And, as with all art, that what you've experienced most in your formative years, grows on you. Cristina Deutekom moves me most with her powerful and clear voice.

  • La mia preferita é FOSTER JENKINS ahahahahahahahahahahah...

  • CRISTINA DEUTEKOM RULES!!!

  • Thank you, thank you, thank you! I am rather partial when I say that you saved the best for last.

  • Why in the world are several of them in different keys from each other??? Do they rearrange the pieces for each individual coloratura's key, or what??? That's so confusing... How does that work??? Roberta Peters blew my mind... @-@

  • After a few listenings, I have to admit Cristina Deutekom is better than Sumi Jo.

So now my ranking is 1. Cristina Deutekom 2 Sumi Jo and 3 Natalie Dessay

  • Favourite: Sumi Jo

    Second favourite: Natalie Dessay

Like very much: Lucia Popp, Edda Moser (admittedly she has the 'h' sound problem)

Like : Erica Miklosa, Clara Polito, Beverly Sills, Ingeborg Hallstein, June Anderson, Edita Gruberova, Cyndia Sieden, Cristina Deutekom

Don't like that much: Hyunju Pak, Mimi Coertse, Elena Mosuc, Luciana Serra, Birgit Nordin, Giusy Devinu, Roberta Peters, Diana Damrau

  • Diana Damrau looks like she could kill you with just a stare! Her voice is the best. Thanks for posting this.

  • Fantastic video!!! How well done, thank you very much! All these performances were so great and it's really hard to decide and pick a favorite...But if I had to it would be Damrau, Anderson and Sumi Jo.

  • THANKS SO MUCH. IM DODIUS FROM THE PHILIPPINES. I EVEN MADE THIS AS MY MESSAGE AND RINGTONE FOR MY CELLPHONE. PEOPLE ARE AMUSED W/ IT.LOVE IT !!!!

  • Missing my favorite the Austrian soprano Wilma Lipp.

    Saludos :)

  • Lucia Popp. Cristina Deutekom. Natalie Dessay.

  • Miklosa... is the best one :D

  • WOW Deutekom is amazing!! So are Mosuc and of course Damrau!! Great video!

  • Deutekom, Deutekom....DEUTEKOM~! <3<3<3

What a wonderful collection to listen to and see. Thanks for sharing.

  • Makes me feel lucky to be alive in a time where I can hear all these great singers. Thanks for putting this together for opera lovers.

  • Edda Moser is Queen especially when she sings Der Holle Rache

  • the best for the end

  • To me, without a particular order : Moser - Dessay - Jo - Popp but some are just inaudible

I prefer Damrau in the other aria.

  • Roberta Peters, no question.

  • Diana Damrau RULES!!! Her acting is out of this world!!!! XD

  • WITHOUT video: Cristina Deutekom (flawless rendition, but acting equals nothing)

WITH video: Diana Damrau (a obviously less powerful voice but the the interpretation is so f* good that you don't even care)

  • @12cior: For me Deutekom's approach (just come and sing) is more queen-like than Damrau's hysterical overacting. Anyway, Moser is excellent, too, but this exact recording is her worst O zittre nicht I have ever heard :-(

  • Dessay was the best by far though. Diana's acting is insanely perfect, but I don't like her much in this aria.

  • In the first clip of Clara Polito, her timbre is just LOVELY. <3 Beverly nearly had it in the bag, but that squeaky flat F :/ Lucia Popp sings it so easily, I wonder if she's bored? LOL Christina Deutekom was very precise, and Edda Mosser had such a pretty high F! Giusy Devinu was impressive for someone with such a heavy voice. xD ROBERTA PETERS WAS BEING A SHOW OFF!!!

  • Suni jo, Diana Damrua

  • Cristina Deutekom and Sumi Jo had the best high notes imo, but obviously they're all kinda brilliant :D

  • 1) Sumi Jo

    2) Natalie Dessay

  • Cristina Deutekom the best voice clear and strong like a queen!!

  • Perfect pitch Sumi jo................no one else was.

    loved Damrau and Deutekom.

    Oh, and Dessay too

    all end with D...

  • 1.- Sumi Jo 2.-Natalie Dessay 3.-Diana Damrau..

  • I enjoy so much how Serra sings here, i've never listen her voice before!

  • I've never heard of Clara Polito, but her timbre is insanely gorgeous.

  • The similarity of there voices brings attention how it takes a very specific and rare kind of voice to sing one of Mozart's greatest masterpieces.

  • Edda Moser:

  • Diana Damrau period! haha I liked some of the others too though, but Damrau was the like a psyco CRAZY queen! lol She (to me) defines the character. Some, no MANY queens I've seen have been to "happy" or "jolly" to me. Some make her look like the good guy...smh

Damrau has a GREAT voice and her great acting ability just makes it all even better.

  • Diana Damrau!!!

  • Birgit was pretty bad... she soundly like she gave up half way through 6:34-6:47

Dessay was surprisingly awesome... I like how she took a slight ritard it was awesome..her acting was surprisingly lacking...

damrau goes without is a fiery singer and actress! loved it all of her singing was motivated and there was thoughtfulness behaind her movements!

  • hyunju is grabbing her boob is rather tense the whole time. her vowels are odd too...

Serra's technique was fun to watch though not the best sounding..

Popp sounds angelic her tessitura is very well suited for the role

cristina deutekom was impressive and stood out..she made the aria her own

with cool staccati and an amazing trill!

Moser HAS a way of moving the melissma that I dont like.she puts way too much "h" as she moves its distracting...she has incredible power on her top notes

  • 13. Cristina Deutekom 18. Sumi Jo

    20. Diana Damrau 2. Edda Moser

  • @dudina89 I found you haha.

  • @sirus804 ???

  • Comment removed

  • June Anderson was the one they used for the movie Amadeus.

  • 1 Diana Damrau 2 Sumi Jo 3 Edda Moser

  • I`m listening this yet again - Clara Polito is not bad at all, despite two or three notes weren`t perfection (in the first clip) but her coloratura is SO delicisouly crispy!

  • genius compilation!

If I had to pick 1

I'd go for Edda Moser (BTW I didn't know her before seeing this clip)

  • Some comments here say (with a little bit of sarcasm of course) that many sopranos can sing this amazingly. Well, I think this video proves completely the opposite of that. I mean, they are all good singers here, but I really don't like many of the versions of this aria, and a lot of them are just okay. To find a performance which is sublime is really difficult. Probably the only ones that I would put in that category are Deutekom and Moser, and maybe Damrau because of her acting.

  • What a great collection! Thank you so much!

  • Thank you ! : )

  • They were ALL... fantastic! In a role that it is so difficult that no-one else besides these -hmmm- 20 singers (plus another 100???) have sung lol

This role and Carmen are the two favourites of all the people who dont understand shit about opera Wolfy made a cute joke with this aria and Coloratura Stupidi are building entire careers on this :/

  • I`ve been recently very seriously thinking that Diana Damrau is sort of the new Callas... or at least the Callas of our time.

  • Maria Callas sucks I think she cant sing

  • @apostelapollon

Why would Callas sing this? About 200 singers have sung this well. Count how many have sung well the Callasian repertoire... perhaps NOBODY?? :)))

  • Cristina Deutekom 2. Diana Damrau 3. Roberta Peters

  • Edda Moser is my favorite :)

  • Deutekom, Moser, and Damrau are my favorites. Clara Polito wasn't too bad, either, for someone I wasn't familiar with. I like the precision of her coloratura -- very similar to that of Luciana Serra (and approaching Deutekom). I've never been a Miklosa fan. I feel like she slurs her way through the ending, sliding over notes that should be a bit more segmented.

  • I almost feel sorry Maria Callas didn`t have interest in Mozart, she would be beyond perfection as a Queen of the Night.

I can`t find an order for them, they all were amazing: Mimi Coertse; Edita Gruberova; Lucia Popp; Cristina Deutekom; Edda Moser; Sumi Jo; Diana Damrau.

  • @Transoxiana94 Callas would not manage the high tones

  • HOW DO THEY SING LIKE THAT? any tips? AMAZING VID!!!

  • Thanks!!!!! Nuchas gracias por la edición. Maravillosa. Wonderfull........

  • Désirée Rancatore also did this role when both her and Natalie Dessay were doing the Magic flute in Paris (2001).

  • Diana Damrau is the best! ♥ I love her, and i love her voice... She's the best Queen of night ever! 'Cause she intrepretate so good that paper... I just love her

  • This is great. Thank you!!

  • Coertse looks goth. XD

  • amazing job with this video! thanks so much!

  • Thanks~! Coloratura is just wonderful

  • The greatest Queen for ever : Cristina Deutekom! She owned that role and wrote music history with her interpretation of the two diabolic aria's!

  • @sagaluke I don't dispute that Deutekom's interpretation soothes your ear, but it's not without its problems. I think her runs are articulated, as opposed to the necessary legato. Her diction also is muddled with a heavy Dutch accent, and it's hard to understand the proper German pronunciation. Furthermore, she's not an actress. There's, however, no dispute that Deutekom has solid high F's and sings the role with more power than almost any other soprano.

  • my favorites:

    1. Sumi Jo 2. Ingeborg Hallstein 3. June Anderson

  • 1. Sumi Jo 2. Natalie Dessay 3. Diana Damrau

  • 1. Sumi Jo

    2. Natalie Dessay

    3. Lucia Popp

  • @Chicha25

Exactly the same! I'm going to offend a lot of people here, but I find Diana Damrau a slight bit melodramatic. It reminds me of Anne-Sophie Mutter's violin playing...maybe it's a German thing.

  • Años atras: Edda Moser, Cristina Deutekom, Lucia Popp

Actuales: Diana Damrau, Sumi Jo, Natalie Dessay

    orden aleatorio

  • Serra, Moser, and Nordin!

  • Nordin ??? How awful!

  • @gi1ro2la3mo4 Well the first two are for singing, Nordin is for acting. NO ONE has acted the queen better than her. True, her voice isn't the BEST, but it is good! It's not my belief that the Queen should be some pretty little songbird. She needs to be ravaged, angry, and bitter- and in this aria- feigning kindness and oozing false charm- all of which Nordin conveys.

  • @hillevifan

No! Nordin's voice is the worst! It is a little high-pitched voice which is that of a hen. If you want a real Queen of the Night magnificent voice and vocalization and dramatically impressive, so it's Cristina Deutekom and Edda Moser!

  • 1. Cristina Deutekom 2. Edda Moser 3. Diana Damrau

  • @gi1ro2la3mo4

    i agree in full !

  • Edda Moser and Diana Damrau are queens, definitely!!!!!
