No they are basic wing t splits, 8-12 inches id say, but zero splits would make the wedge harder to see..im used to 8-12. How do you like it so far? I have Sweep, Power, Jet, and Rocket series if you want to see them
@MarcusMurder Strange. Even in Pop Warner, most splits I've seen were closer to 15-18"(if it's not broke, dont fix it). This was a well done video but if you really want to understand the Delaware Wing T, I'd suggest videos by a coach named Paul Connor. I did a search of his name and wing t only to see how well respected he is. Some debate the Wing T effectiveness but if you can get guys to buy into it, it can work. ++Disclaimer: I DID play for him in college (but I played DT).
@johnduncan77 Yeah I go two foot splits. Youth football is most 12-18" like you said. I have had success with a little bit wider splits. Since I never really have a stud filled team widening the splits will allow better angles and running lanes, even if the defense linemen blows up they play the running back will have space and room to cut.
@MarcusMurder BTW. I remember some of the terminology (even though I started, I had the bag duty during offensive scout team and heard them between plays). At that time, we ran the Wing mostly under center (VS shotgun or pistol). I am considering coaching youth football (or at least teach kids how to play either formally or informally).
Yeah I ran Veer back in my high school days with much success. I have ran load option with my kids the past couple years. The no huddle is so underrated and under used in youth football. I give coaches nightmares with it. It makes the other team waste all their time outs. It also makes substitutions for the other team difficult . I love it!
i ran veer a few years back and my approach was no huddle and it worked miracles. we werent the most talented team on the field but we were the most conditioned and most disciplined. we would base our veer on the 3 tech. if he was a 3 tech we would go midline, if he moved to a 1 tech we would continue to run veer. it also opened our playaction game as well. run veer 15 times youl get the safeties to bite. Im now developing a revoluitonary offense that no one has seen in awhile.. il let you know
What helps with my offense the most is the no huddle. Say you call the trap play, but the defense is alignment is difficult to block why still run the play. We do everything off a wrist coach ( ever position has one) with numbers and letters. We call the play that will give us the best blocking flanks/numbers. If we call jet sweep, but the defense is leaving us a soft box, check "blue 2" which will be an inside power to our 3 advantage inside. No huddle so under rated in youth football.
It depends on the defense you are playing each week as well.....I know there are blocking schemes but there will always be adjustments after studying film and doing a scouting report.
If you are playing a good defensive end you can block him with the wingback.
I love leading with my fullback on jet sweep. Thanks for the comment, good stuff!
I have never had a problem with the defensive end on the right. I see a lot of defensive ends that play 9 techniques....with defensive end playing a 9 techs/ playing contain, two foot line splits, and the jet motion faking jet sweep to that side there is no reason that defensive end should make a play. If he is in a 7 technique then the defensive end will need to be blocked....because he probably wont have containment if he playing inside.
Good concept, but ive run this with my 8th grade and the End to the right makes the play everytime if you dont block him, I understand you want blockers on the 2nd and 3rd levels but if you dont chop him or scoop underneath he will make every play. ever think about having the FB lead outside for the WB on the jet, and atleast when you run the trap he can pickup the End. any thoughts get back to me

@MarcusMurder Wedge is a great play in youth football. If I was to run wedge our splits will be zero or 1 foot
