Meditation as practiced in ancient Hinduism is all about producing this phenomenon in consciousness, by dissolving the ego with the cessation of thought. --Just a bit of an oversimplification! How many ways can one look at that question? Chemical, neuro., cognitive etc. & of course, by differnt subjects beyond the brain! It's not bcus we're all "life units" that we r then egoists 2b, on [various levels], distinct, unique etc. Collectivity/individuality can b comparativly challenged, though neither's thoroughly comparable, purely 1 of any thing.
