  • I met him at sonisphere during megadeth's signing session. nice guy and he was the one who approched me and my friend :)

  • Is everybody oblivious to The Infection by Chimaira? That album is CRUSHING!

    My Top 5 goes:

    5. Hatebreed - "Hatebreed"

    4. Shadows Fall - "Retribution"

    3. DevilDriver - "Pray For Villains"

    2. Lamb of God - "Wrath"

    1. Chimaira - "The Infection"

  • mastodon is amazing, instrumentally there one of the best in the biz and they stay to there roots

  • crack the skye best album of the last 100yrs

  • this guy's really intelligent.

  • I think that the massive amount of praise directed at Mastodon is 100% deserved, one of the greatest bands of our time.

  • Crack The Skye is really just amazing. From first listen to every following listen, I just love it more and more. It's a shame that it wasn't nominated for a grammy at all, when crap like a Linken Park live song was, but w/e. It will win tons and tons of awards in the metal and hard rock community and deservingly so.

  • great albums these year: behemoth evangelion marduk wormwood stratovarius polaris rumpeltstiltskin grinder living for death destroying the rest nile those whom the god detest immortal all shall fall candlemass death magic doom hypocrisy a taste of extreme divinity necrophobic death to all i agree with some of his stuff, but some others aren't even the half as good as the ones i just named, and others like porcupine tree aren't even metal.
  • Whats your point?

  • is a magazine called metal hammer, is supposed to be about metal.

  • From it's very inception it's never been solely about metal. And I don't know what Porcupine Tree you've been listening to, but the past few albums have had enough metal in them to qualify into your self righteous, narrow mind. Besides, this isn't anything to do with the magazine, it's a staff members personal top 20 albums of the year. There is no reason for all the albums to be metal. If you're gonna be that pedantic then you can even say Steel Panther aren't metal.

  • how can you see porcupine tree as metal, they aren't metal man, this video is linked all over metal hammer's web site, is highly related to metal hammer, when you put metal on something it has to be metal and nothing else, i bet my ass you think the avenged sevenfold, bullet for my valentine and korn are metal as hell, do you remember the guys that gave a metal grammy to jethro tull? people like that is making you believe all that bullcrap and making you think am an elitist.

  • Yes, but my point is that this is a human beings personal top 20 albums of all time. Are you telling me he should keep it solely metal just so people like you don't spit your dummy out?

  • this is practically the magazine, is not only him, man, open up your eyes, this is exactly the same list that would show up if the magazine made one, editors are the ones who make those kinda lists and if he is the editor for metal hammer, then this is metal hammer talking right here buddy is the way magazines are in video games, in music, in sports in everything, that simple the big guys like him call all the shots, he is incarnating the magazine here.

  • So whats your point? He chooses what goes in the magazine, it's still HIS top 20 and the whole staffs individual top 20's get featured every year. He has every right to put whatever album he wants in there, be it Porcupine Tree or Jay Z. Beez had KISS in his Top 20 and they're far from metal, does that bother you too?

  • you are retard if you can't get my point so far, let me explain it to you barney level, the good sir here represents the way of seeing things of a magazine that is supposed to be a metal music magazine, and even if the whole staff does, are guys like him who call all the shots and who decide whats going in the pages and whats not, is the traditional way for magazines, so i think they ignore great metal and only put in mainstream stuff or non-metal stuff in a "metal" mag, and that pisses me off!

  • It's not that I don't get what you're saying, I just don't understand your logic. Of course they cater to the mainstream to a certain degree, and of course they heavily focus on bands that are relevant on a wide basis today. But every issue contains a big section dedicated to extreme, black and death metal. And you just try and tell me how many major music magazines have put Amon Amarth and DevilDriver on their cover. If you want further proof, I urge you to look back on past Metal Hammer covers

  • You'll soon realise that Metal Hammer has never been solely about metal. One of their earliest issues had ZZ Top on the cover for christs sake. If you think you can do it better than they do, I suggest you start your own magazine. All I know is, i've been reading Metal Hammer for years, and it's brought alot of bands to my attention that would usually slip right off my radar. They cover enough metal, you just can't please everybody, least of all people like you.

  • I mean tainting something for not being metal is pathetic. If you just opened your mind a little, you'd realise how incredible Porcupine Tree's music is. It's musicians like Steven Wilson that remind us why music exists; the freedom of expression and the freedom of experimentation.

  • i don't got shit on other music, that i tell you, people can listen to whatever they want to listen, but when you go and call dudes like porcupine tree heavy metal, then you got a problem with me, say is fucking rock, say is fucking punk, but never say is metal if is not, and never use your media to make it look like is metal so the bad ass wannabe kids jump on it like pigs on shit, MTV icon metallica is your example, total butchering of thrash metal classics by talentless fashion bands.

  • metal is defined by so much more than heaviness, brutality, and evilness. its supposed to be the open minded music genre where you arent supposed to worry about labels where the judgment is based on a persons viewpoint not what somebody says they should be. your opinion is valid but arguing that a band doesnt deserve recognition simply because they dont fit your view of what is metal is just asinine. ie: I dont think city of fire is a metal band but they absolutely deserve to be on this list

  • get lost >:(
