James Burton . . . in the flesh! yes, he really wrote all those licks we all stole back in the late 60s. Our groupies used to tell about meeting James while vacatoining on Slat Spring Island. British Columbia back-in-the-day. Man that was fun.
This is an unbelievable line up and the music is incredible. My only complaint about the set they played at crossroads that year is that in each song, they cycled thru almost every player so everyone got a solo. Most of them were great, but it got predictable and a little boring. BUT! I absolutely love these guys. Big ups to JB and AL. Not sure what earl klugh is doin there, even tho i love his solo stuff. Also, i think Susan Tedeschi would have been better than sheryl crow. Great stuff, thanks
Can somebody tell me the name of the guy at the Yamaha Keyboard, with the blue shirt, he starts soloing at 5:28 ? I heard and saw him play in other places too and find him amazing !
JB was the reason I started playing back in '58. He's getting old, but he's still incomparable. I'd be afraid to get on the stage with that gang of giants. If I didn't embarrass myself, I'd probably wet myself just to be in the presence of that many legends.
Thank you Vince for bringing it all "Up Front"....awesome picking with some of that cream...and you are certainly of our mentors, again showing your respect to those and again placing you in that same place of respect....Thank you again,,,You are a "gentlemans gentleman" that can pick with the finest...you are all that...looking foward to mo' and mo'...laterlon
@bocha2104 Don't forget Ricky Nelson, the one that brought him to national attention. Of course he played on "Susie Q" by Dale Hawkins when he was about 15. But the "Rickey" connection was critical to his career. I used to watch "The Nelsons" on TV just to see James, even though they were only pantomiming the songs. Merle Haggard too used his "chops" as did many others.
@garyguitar Thanks for giving me some of your knowledge about the history of country music. So I will make some research about Ricky Nelson and Susie Q. Thanks!
@bocha2104 You're most welcome...his playing influenced mine a lot. Check out our 1964 recording of Susie Q on my channel. My other big influences were Freddie King, BB, and others. James' recordings with Rick were mindblowing for a lot of us players back in that era.

Seems that James Burton had a strong career playing with Elvis Presley, Emilou Harris, John Denver
