@2ndSamuel710 Smallpox is e-r-a-d-i-c-a-t-e-d. If you are talking about all vaccines in general (since smallpox vaccine has some risks), then you are very much wrong. There is a reason why everybody agreed to take vaccinations. The diseases are killing people and this stopped it. Over time people forget (as with smallpox/spanish flu) and people hate on vaccines. If you don't want to be in the in crowd, you are the loner. And to say I'm wrong puts you in the denial crowd.

OK I'm confused. It says Jenner was inoculated when he was a child for smallpox. Then went onto discover a vaccine for smallpox? What?!?!

Also it said some of the people trying to use his methods and gave the patients cowpox by mistake and they died. Isn't that what you're meant to do so you don't get smallpox? I need answers!

@gregorycawthorne The old method was inoculation - it was dangerous as they used smallpox matter and there was a chance that you could develop the full-blown disease. Jenner's method was called vaccination. He used a similar disease, cowpox, but it was much safer. Watch the video again - it should be clearer this time:)

Results? 1872 their worse epidemic ever- near 45,000 died.. City of Leicester stopped vax, improved sanitation. I'm a dairy farmer and one of the benefits of my work is a natural immunity to smallpox. Dairy cows sometimes get cowpox (a mild disease, a few spots on their udders). One day I noticed a blister on my hand that really itched. After about a week though it went away. I was told later it was cowpox and I was now immune to smallpox. Cowpox gives immunity to smallpox. The same thing that Jenner did.

Jenner vaccinated his son as well. The fact that was overlooked is that both James Phipps and Jenners son died just after their 20th birthdays. Another fact is that not everyone that came in contact with cow/small pox contracted the disease. His book was based on the results of those two experiments and until recently, there wasn't a single long-term study performed to either confirm or, discredit his findings. Thankfully, people are waking up and asking questions.

While TODAY we wouldn't adopt vaccination on such poor studies, the fact is that the de facto population results (Uk vs rest of world after 1840) showed that it worked.

Remember, at the time your lifetime options were "do nothing, 60% get smallpox, 20% die" or risk varioloation - 1-2% death rate.

Have cowpox or smallpox in any way been determined to be the causes of death? When? By whom? By what means?

I assume they were - otherwise, mentioning those deaths would be irrelevant and not support the argument.

Would this James Phipps be the same James Phipps born 1788, vaccinated by Dr. Jenner on May 14, 1796? The same James Phipps who became Dr. Jenner's gardener and is recorded as attending Dr. Jenner's funeral in January 1823, well after he was 20 years old?

Google it.

My sources are weak, I admit, but I do not find Phipps dying "just after [his] 20th birthday."

1. Jenner was no physician. He never completed any program of medical study, or received a diploma from any medical school.

2. If you go to the Jenner Museum in Gloucestershire, England today and ask for Jenner's diploma, you will will be told "we don't have it"

3. Jenner bought his medical degree for 15 euros from St. Andrew's College in Scotland, which he never attended.
