  • its now 5 days after my surgery and i had PT yesterday and my knee feels like a bigg bruise, is that usually what happends?

  • @ddpaintballer Hi , i got the same surgery 2 weeks ago, what do you exactly feel? keep in touch

  • im a cyclist and was diagnosed with plica syndrome today, im getting a cortizone injection tommorow so hopefully it works and i dont have to get surgery

  • @ddpaintballer Not trying to be a downer, but unfortunately you probably shouldn't count on it working :(. I was having knee problems for a year and a half before I got a cortisone shot and it didn't do anything, it's more of a cover your a** for the doctor so that they can say they tried absolutely everything before surgery. Just thought I would warn ya :)

  • @theaterqueen95 yeah, i got the surgery last friday

  • @ddpaintballer I had the cortisone in september and the surgery 2 weeks and 2 days ago, turned out that the synovium (which is a little sac of fluid) on the back of my ACL was trapped between my patella and tibia bones so my dr had to remove that and a small portion of my ACL. Now I'm about to start PT, hope it gets better soon!

  • @theaterqueen95 DId you have your plica removed as well?

  • @Hagencito87 No i didn't actually, just the piece of my ACL that was trapped in the bones

  • @ddpaintballer How did it go?

  • @Hagencito87 good, 10 days later and im on the bike riding, not hard riding but sustained pace riding

  • Did it on both knees 7 days ago and can walk without limping (or crutches). Sorry to hear that sometimes this is not the case.

  • I had a plica resection a few days ago and can walk but I am taking a pain killer and an anti-inflammatory. It's when I've sat down for a while and then stand that my walking is stiff for a few steps. Thank you for your video. By the way, you are hot.

  • Thank you so much for doing this video. I am 13 and have been strugaling with a left knee problem for 4 years. I just had A left knee Arthroscopy done to remove plica from under my knee cap and was happy to find at least one post to help! I only had to have two incisions and they where able to remove all plica! :) The doctor said i should be up and walking within a week to a week and a half :) Thanks Again,

    Taylor

  • I've just been told that I need surgery on my knee this makes me feel alot better. Whalst being done did you feel anything?

  • I had a double plica removal on my right knee. Honestly, it took me a good 6-9 months to feel at 95%. Physical therapy for me after the first 3-4 months kept aggravating it. I did my own PT, by stretching it out, getting all flexibility back and breaking down the scar tissue, so I would have full range of motion. I still have a tad more of scar tissue to break down, but it doesn't stop me from working out. It's been a year and 4 months, since surgery and I'm about 98% back to full range.

  • hey how long it took foru to have it back to 100% becuz i had this surgery in may its july now an its ok but it has like pains in it like wen i bend it foward an lower it like is it cuz its weak is ths normal ??? i told my doc but i wanna know from someone who had surgery before

  • I had this done 3 days ago and my knee is pretty swollen, I do worry about any infection though. I'll be seeing the surgeon tomorrow. He told me before the op i would be walking home lololol no way i just couldnt stand up let alone walk.

Thank you for your video, sailingdede .. it helped me a lot. Now I know that its not surprising i am feeling the way i am after only 3 days.

  • get on the internet retard. this should be the last question you ever ask because PT has you doing extension drills day 1.

  • p.s your knees look greatx

  • sorry!!!, number 2 u still wont be training

  • @0KissMyAss : Hi there, thought I would reply as you seem to have reacted rather negatively to my video.

Firstly, I said my knee was slightly swollen, and to be fair, I know my knees, I live with them.

Secondly there are no dressings because, as I said, the incisions had healed. That was me 7 days after my surgery, not a re-enactment.

  • @0KissMyAss

The aim on my video was to aim to help others by providing some hope, but obviously every one is different, and just because my recovery was quick doesn't mean all will be, some may be fast and others may be slow. Yes much rest is needed, equally don’t just do nothing, or you'll waste away. Do what you can when you can, sensible.

And lastly, I never said I would be back training in two days, so I'm not sure what to say to that...

  • @0KissMyAss

My surgery was done a long time ago. I live my life the way I want to, when I can. Yes my knees hurt, and on some days I get home from work, sit on the sofa and cry, but on others, the majority of the time, I’m just ‘a ok’ :)

I’m sorry if you are not.

  • hey dumbass, get on one crutch...you're limping.

  • I'm on my 3rd day post surgery (but 1 year ago i did the same on the other leg). Nice and concise. Hope you're doing well.

  • How soon were able to climb stairs? I have not had the surgery yet and this is my greatest challenge prior to surgery.

  • I had right knee arthroscopy done on thursday 14th Jan 2010, was told i would be off work for two weeks and i was told to take the bandage off today and well its still really painful and still having to rest it up loads, just trying to do anything with it just hurts.

how long was it before you could return to work?

  • Thanks, just had mine done a week ago and still in pain..gives me hope!

  • I cant believe you was walking so well a week after your op. 5 weeks ago i had athroscopic lateral release and a plica excision and i am confused with what they actually done. but im only starting to walk normaly again and im doing physio every day. But with the bending,im the same so its really nice to see im not alone! Hope you are better now =)

  • i am getting my done on next tuesday i am so scared i am sure it will go ok i hope

  • i can't believe u could walk a week after your surgery... i had this surgery on my left knee 6 months ago, and i've been on crutches for a month... it still hurt today, i can't walk too much nor run... :S

  • Thats very unfortunate. What did they do during your surgery? Yours may have been more invasive so your recovery time was/is longer. Everyone seems to be different.

It could have something to do with age too. Feel free to talk. Dede

  • @JuneFlower21 you should try to walk on it as much as possible. not walk like regular walking but keep the leg straight when you walk. I had this surgery 2 days ago and it was really painful the first day. I stretched my hamstrings alot and now i can pretty much walk normally.

  • well it's been 11 months now.. and it still very painful. the doctor said they can't do anything about it anymore.. i can walk but not for long, and it hurts even if don't move at all.

  • @JuneFlower21 hm ok. How old are you? And have you tried strenghtening the quadriceps?

  • i'm 16, and i've done strenghtening exercises since the surgery.. never seemed to work, it's more like it's always getting worse

  • @JuneFlower21 oh ok. Im 17. You should contact another doctor who would take your pain more seriously.

  • Thanks for doing this video. I had Arthroscopic knee surgery yesterday on my left knee for a torn meniscus. I know everyone is different, but I was looking for information on how long it will take before I can walk. I appreciate your posting this!

  • thats was my thoughts after my surgery.

I am really glad it helped,

even if it was just one person! :)

  • I was a miserable bum this morning but sort of felt ok by lunch.

I can still do most sports, but cycling I try to avoid. My knees generally grind/pop less since arthroscopy but when I cycle they start to pop and hurt a lot. I can do it, but I know its not good for me to do. I also find running painful. These are the two sports/activities that hurt at the time as well as after.

Hope this helps. If you have any further queries feel free to ask.

    Dede :)

  • My knee pain tends to be bearable at the time, and forget me not later. Depending on what Ive been doing I sometimes can sleep, and sometimes cant. Its simply how it is.

I have been climbing weekly recently, kayaking here and there. Just bought a new racing dinghy to sail (Laser 4000), spent the weekend skimming across the water at high speed and last night didnt managed to stop rolling around in my bed cause my knees were slow dancing on hot coals.

  • I decided then not to have my left knee done, or at least not for a time.

Now days I am very active. I managed to go back to work as an Outdoor Instructor and have been working normally since the end of March. I can say for sure my knees are still a big problem but to be honest thats mostly my fault for not wanting to give up and work in an office.

  • They went in expecting to find wearing of the underside of my knee cap but ended up removing plica. There is some wear but not to bad.

I left work for op on 30th Sep 08 and took it easy over the Christmas period.

I was as recovered as I was ever going to be by January (2009).

I went to the Lake District to do some hill walking in mid January. It was hard work, not too painful but my knees were both very saw afterwards.

  • Hey there! I didn't realize it had been so long since my op. 7 and a half months.

    Well...where to start :)

I live in England; my arthroscopy was done under the NHS. As a whole it was actually a slightly worrying experience because the hospital I went to seemed a bit lax on professional appearance and made me feel unwelcome. The actual op went well and was done cleanly, no infection or anything bad.

  • sailingdude, how is your knee now? I think I am getting arthroscopy soon on medial plica which has been giving me pain and stopping me cycling/running for 9 months. Are you recovered now? How long has it taken? I hope you are managing some sport now. Please get in touch! PS did u get yours done on nhs?

  • hope this helps

    Dede :)

  • I went gently and funnily enough my arms got tired really quickly as I was subconsciously taking more weight on my arms then I should have in an effort to save the knees lol

It wasn't too bad. Ok so my legs are really sore but was it the climbing or the barn dancing? Or maybe the more obvious answer of...both lol

  • Its getting, or had been getting easier. Yesterday I had my works Christmas doo, which had a barn dance country theme. By the end of the night I was in so much agony I was completely sober. Had big red hot patches on my knees, I dont know why this happens.

Today I tested myself once again (it had been previously arranged otherwise I would have passed) and went climbing on an indoor wall.

  • Its the physio thats affecting my sleep. My program currently consists of the 'simple' exercises and for some reason there really challenging me lol

Straight Leg raises, foot turned outwards leg raise, Squeeze ball between bent knees, Squeeze ball between knees and lift bum hold, squeeze ball knees to chest then straighten, ball under knee straighten and hold, 10 reps hold for 5 secs.

  • Medial plica, runs down ward under the inner side of your knee cap. Mine was the medial supra patella plica thats on the very inside of knee cap.

  • I think the surgeon said medial plica? If that helps. I had my knee done November 6, I think. I was told that I would be fully recovered in a month. So it's coming up on two.

What have you been doing and how come it's affecting your sleep?

  • Sadly I havent so far and my op was on the 30th september 2008 two and a half months ago :(

I was hoping it would settle down within the next few months. I just started doing a new set of exercises with a physio therapist (first appointment since op) for five days now. I haven't managed to have a good nights sleep since. Its very disheartening but something I hope will get better with time and a whole lota work :)

What plica was giving you your problems?

  • hey. I had my right knee done for plica syndrome a bit more than a month ago. I still have to get the other one done at some point. Until then, have you found there to be any way of getting rid of the snapping and popping when I'm running or doing any other leg exercise? thanks
