unfortunately westerners embarking in this kind of 'food tourism' may feel excited by their new experience but often perpetuate the brutal industry which led to the dog arriving on their plate. Eating different meats is fine but the dog meat industry in Asia is savage - the process, the conditions. We;d never buy meat back home that had been produced and killed in such conditions.

Even though I would never eat dog meat i wouldn't go around telling people that it's discusting or revolting.. It's a different culture over here so of course it's going to be different! duh!
Every Westerners must understand that other cultures exist. You don't have to like it but just have to respect it.
The saddest thing is that many Asian Americans who are confused with their own identity would condemn dog eating not recognizing that this culture existed for 2000 years since the Han dynasty.
@kim29223 I don't think we westerners have to respect Asian culture, because we never could for many reasons. But we really need to accept it. In Sweden where I live, eating a dog would almost be like eating a family member. And I am pretty sure it's the same in other western countries.

@kim29223 We have a lot of muslim immigrants in Sweden and a lot of them do condemn us for eating pork and things we don't do their way. So, not much respect from their side. But most muslims don't do this, at least not in public. Eating dogs is a big nono in the West. It's just a fact. Muslims can hate me for eating pork. Indians can hate me for eating cows. I don't care. It's normal to me. I don't hate asians for eating dogs. I can accept it if you live in Asia. But respect is a strong word.

But as to practices like when and how to pray or washing your hands before eating they never impose it on others. Hindus would say a silent prayer while Muslims would pray for deliverance to those who eat beef or pork.
But Westerners through PETA, SIRUS etc would come to demand from our Senators that we ban dog eating because it offend them back in USA.

These people are hardly "open to other cultures". They are either indifferent to the particular cruelty of the dog meat trade or they are ignorant of it.
