In what guage is your coat of mail? my mail is 14 gauge and e tested in the same way that you and is not as easy to break the union of the rings. In addition to testing for coat of mail vs sword I think it would be better to use a coat of mail that a ring riveted instead faced rings.
@ArmandoseCaballero The maille is butted, not rivetted, so the gauge is not that important. For butted maille to be effective, it has to be wound several turns (like the ring of a keyring) to be effective, or it will open. The maille in this video is NOT historical, and NOT effective. SBG should really have pointed that out, as there is a world of difference between the maille in this video and rivetted maille. This piece of maille is hardly protective at all.
What really is "quite scary" is that untrained people with strange hobbies like "destruction tests (?)" are able to acquire such dangerous equipment... Wish your videos would be more than dangerous games with such nice and awesome items.
thats butted mail people never used it you know y ? it dont fuckng work as you can see here you need riveted mail thats the stuff people used in medieval times not butted!
@cartoonfans1161 He's still right though and chainmail was state of the art armor for centuries. Butted chainmail can't hold a candle to the proper riveted suit.
Welll, you have to find a good balance. That thing bent Dramatically, seems too soft. You want a sword that isn't soft, but has high impact resistance and tensile strength, in that case it would have prevented the bending. Presumably.
@JesusFuckingChrist84 It's not soft, if the steel was soft the blade would stay bend, it's too flexible. Flexible swords are cutters, it makes the sword to be able to take more stress before breaking.
Yeah I guess I'll take that argument... it really is up for debate, soft swords, flexible swords and double-edged all have different characteristics, I can't really say for sure what happened, just my theory.
@JesusFuckingChrist84 yes but it cane back to its original position that shows good tempering thats whats its supposed to do or are you talking about the one that totally bent the edge.
One thing I noticed that seems to be overlooked is that all of the swords except the dark archers sword are hand and a half/bastard/2-hand swords. It would seem to be a given that it would not slash as well as the others. Considering it's one-handedness I think it still did an excellent job as a slasher.
I'm gona sound like such a nerd but this music is in an Xbox indie game. (total miner)

Do not forget that the Tinker pearce Longsword is a sword for unarmored fencing.
Its Focus is on speed and balance.
The thin blade naturally has to sacrifice on thrusting against harder materials.
But if you try to fence against one with a heavy sword like the black prince, you will see the Potential of a well balanced Longsword.

@wariscomeing the thing is that they had plate armor to go over the chain-mail.

@cartoonfans1161 They did not have plate to go OVER the maille, but maille to complement plate, covering bits and pieces that plate did not.

@JesusFuckingChrist84 Thats what you want. If you can bend a sword like that and it comes back to its original shape thats a good sword.

Well, the Tinker Pearce longsword is ment for fencing, which is done without any armour. So it's not a surprise that the tip is now a pig's tail...
ExtremeDeathman 1 year ago
Second surprise from Tinker longsword, with such a vicious looking tip i would guess it would be a better truster...
Still awesome sword though.
And black prince really seems like something serious...
