  • Thanks for posting this video. I worked with Ed Fendell and knew he was a sharp guy and that he operated this remote camera, but I never fully appreciated how clever he had to be to obtain the complete sequence. I'll send him this link as I'm sure he'll be amused by the doubters' comments. ;-)

  • LRV??? A likely story

  • where was the gas from rocket ?or even the light emmited from it ?

  • @7t6e354r They emailed it later on ;)

  • It is amazing to me that in photos of Apollo 17's LM ascent, we can see an astronaut as clear as day with no helmet on through clear glass. How is this possible? What kind of protective layer on the window would allow us to see him so clearly and yet still offer protection from the Sun's rays?

  • Notice No exhaust, anti-gravity at work here folks. This is contrary to the official record.

  • @MJ12DAVE exactly.

  • Every Apollo-related Youtube comments section is full of "hoaxers". It's really sad but it seems that indeed, idiots in general are by far in the majority throughout the universe.

  • wow that must be one big ass vacuum studio they (cough) faked it all in.you know... jack shmitt off in the distance, gene cernin tripping down the hill spreading the elaboratly sprinkled faked moon dust 20 feet ahead of him with no air resistance to slow it down.oh yeah... not to mention the guy they left behind operating the camera.... does anyone know if they sent him a cheeseburger yet? i know he's just in the next room over but after all this time he must be hungry...

  • The camera was mounted on the LRV and operated remotely.

  • yes i know.... i was being sarcastic. i cant stand hoaxers arguments that apollo was faked. not only was the camera mounted on the LRV and operated by remote (ed fendell was the name of the operator in houston) it was panned up exactly 2.5 seconds prior to the launch of the LEM.

  • Yes the hoaxers are misguided.

  • you know what.... thats great. i for one am not a hoaxer. i believe there is overwhelming evidence that the apollo program was real. did you remember to partialy summurize that the apollo moon landing hoax was started up by a man named Charles K Johnson, the president of the flat earth society? he proclaimed the whole space program was faked to lead mankind from the truth that according to the bible, the earth is flat. you wanna talk about misguided..

  • Why isn't the moon landings a hoax? Think about it. How many people does it take to make a movie? 100? more maybe. So all of these people would keep quiet all these years and not take advantage of the millions and millions of dollars they would get for indisputable information proving it was a hoax. Come on people grow a brain, and move out of your mom's cellar. Not a hoax. And here's another news flash, the Earth is not flat. No the picture you took at the beach is not proof it's flat.

  • simply amazing

  • Yep, no exhaust showing LEM, no exhaust nozzle at all - simply wonderfull :D So, so fake... lol

  • trodus, dont be an ignorant and study the technology of the lem,its just a reality all scared people must face, man went to the moon,6 times in fact and there are LRO pictures just released that prove this, the orbitor has mapped the landing sites and the lem,s and bootprints are evident for your eyes to behold

  • You must be a psykopath! Have you ever take drugs? You must have!!

  • gain some knowledge on the subject before clling this fake. I would love to debate you

  • you make me laugh.

  • There would NOT be a visible exhaust

Aerozine 50 (the hypergolic fuel used by the LEM's ascent engine) would burn virtually invisibly in the near-vacuum near the lunar surface.

Please research the subject matter before posting.

  • Trodas the exhaust not being visible has been explained so many times that only a brain dead sack of leftover assfuckings would bring it up. Why don't you say "Hey...No Stars" next and show everybody how really retarded you are?

  • The camera did work for some time after the liftoff. After rendezvous with the command module, mission control tried to remotely crash the LEM into the face of the mountain in front of the camera to record and evaluate the impact, but the trajectory was off by a little bit and they missed.

  • 月面からの離脱はこわごわの映像ですが、成功して何よりの映像でもあります。LMの上半分のエンジンの推力は月の重力に対して十分な力を持っていたといえるでしょう。

  • that remote camera controller is a genius. a beautiful piece of footage. I could watch space vehicles maneuver in a vacuum all day, its eerie.

  • Yes, the LRV camera operated for some time after ascent. It sent back imagery until the batteries died.

  • you are all wrong. the camera was static. this footage was what we saw on earth on TV. the TV stations broadcast a picture of a picture -- their film cameras filmed the screens at mission control... the TV people were the ones panning and zooming, NOT the camera on the moon.

  • Sorry, I work at NASA. That is not correct. Apollo 17's LRV camera was remote controlled. It was operated by a guy named Ed Fendell. Fendell was moving the camera from mission control in Houston and had to anticipate the LM's motion to compensate for the radio signal delays. He did a terrific job.

  • I thought it was taped off of a TV screen? that's what I was told anyway... oh well. either way, it wasn't faked.

  • Apollo 11 was but as the program continued the cameras and technology were improved. If you look at the Apollo 16 liftoff you'll notice that the MCC engineer wasn't quite fast enough and the LM flies out of the picture. And, yes, it's not a fake!

  • Sorry, the moon landings did happen. Even the Mythbusters took the time to say it happened. And, yes, the technology did exist for remote control. As for the tracking shot, there was a zoom control. As for you being a camera expert, we should compare credentials.

  • @tvspace what did Nasa do to protect the Astronauts from radiation from the Van Allan radiation belts? And why haven't we been back to the moon since 1972? Did we learn everything that could be learned about the moon?

  • @xenex23 "And why haven't we been back to the moon since 1972?"

This is something you would have to ask NASA directly. I can imagine it's because of cost. Every year the US was spending 5% of its entire budget on the Apollo missions.

  • @tvspace you are wrong

  • The only person talking out of their ass is YOU!

  • ekhornbeck127... you are pathetic example of an American. If we can send 3 men to the moon, remote control existed. Its a radio frequency you idiot. Ever heard of radio control cars? You probably play with them every day. Don't you have something better to do, like play xbox or work your minimum wage job because you'll never amount to anything?

  • I've just watched a Discovery Science broadcast of a documentary on the development of the LEM and I could have sworn the presenter mentioned that the LRV camera ran for another ~30 hours after the images above were captured, could you comfirm this? maybe I've started to hear the ''voices'' ;-)

  • Observe the moon humans on top of the Lunar Module and on the side of it. They made it all the way to earth outside the Lunar Module. Search video's under name doowop62 and you can find a video show them with the module in the ocean and the divers picking them up along with the astronauts.

    Dave aka doowop62

  • Excuse me, but how could the camera itself follow the lunar module movement after de launch?

    Thank you.

  • The camera was moved remotely by someone in Houston's mission control.

  • In addition, the 6 second transmission delay meant the "director" had to maneuver the camera controls from houston before the lem actually took off, a feat in timing.

  • The remote camera operator's name was Ed Fendell, and he won numerous awards afterwards, among them the "Golden Camera" in Germany, which is normally reserved for outstanding movie directors :-P. He was also the only one who got the timing right; the remote camera operators on the Apollo 15 and 16 messed it up, which is why you never get to see their creations :-D

  • thats cool thats cool thats cool thats cool thats cool.

  • graphics are shittier than the first star trek shows lol.

  • No one. Remember, there was a live TV camera on the lunar rover, which was parked safely away from the lunar module. Apollo 16 did the same thing, except the rover's camera was stuck and could not follow ascent, so you only see liftoff.
