I guess the Germans were somewhat insecure what to do with their musty superfluity: As they had not acquired any colonies to settle it (though this method is not really a clever idea: Just look what happened to the four English colonies Australia, Canada, New England or New Zealand); so they were glad to depose it in the USA; and maybe some Trojan Horse for this beefcake is elected president of the USA the old foe of Germany is surely doomed!
