I looked again and saw at 0:23 written with grease pencil the number 375
......I would guess then that my forensic video skills could use a little sharpening :(
Does anyone have the answer to what that writing is? I would hate to think it was just something arbitrary. Any WW2 aviation guru know the answer..........?
@ArcticAmarok These films were Camaras mounted in the wings of the aircraft Every time the trigger was pressed the film would roll They would then be taken back to base removed taken to HQ or some base command dark rooms and edited After it was declassifed War reels were edited once again the numbers you see are the final frames per min I think seeing they didn't have digy timers so making a movie all you needed to know was how long you wanted it to be by the numbers on each
@schizoidboy The Japanese did have fighter pilots, in some cases they escorted the Kamikaze's as well as destroying any targets that posed a threat to them.
@schizoidboy oh ffs please go and read some history before making such daft comments....(hint - WHY did Japan start using suicide raids in LATE WW2) .....:/
@Xiolablu3 What I do know is that they lost many of their capable pilots in the Battle of Midway and else where in the Pacific. I also know they were losing much of their merchant shipping from sub attacks. I also know they were desperate to stop the US naval fleet but they also had to deal with bombers and carrier borne planes as well, but they were not training them to handle the bombers. Now exactly where am I daft? Please explain...
@schizoidboy japan had alot of battle hardened veteran pilots fresh from combat in china, but most were killed in the early stages of naval warfare with the united states. and japan was putting new pilots in the air only to have them shot down without doing hardly any damage... its alot easier to teach somebody how to fly a plane into something then it is to teach them to dog fight and bomb run with it, so japan put what little planes they had to better use with the kamakazie style
@101andrewj An interesting point is that General LeMay had decided to remove most of the defensive armament from the B29s saving the tail guns. It might have sounded suicidal to some but it worked because the of what you said about the lack of fighters.
Well said last poster. Problem is these brainless little pricks can't differentiate video games from reality, the reality of nasty warfare to be precise. They'd shit themselves if it was them in that position.
@barmybrummy1988 Not funny. Those are people dying down there. And no, they don't respawn. And strafing ground forces isn't "n00by." There's no such thing as "n00by" in war. If there are planes down there you're not just going to let them take off to avoid being a "n00b." Please, if you are going to make comments about an unrealistic video game on real war footage, then just fuck off.
These are german aircraft, not Japanese.. i remember watching a few documentaries on this and it said that these were attacks on german planes before D-day so the germans wouldnt have anything to attack troops with by air..
@IEatBrainMatter117 Nope. That's clearly a Yokosuka D4Y ("Judy") on fire at 0:14, and a little after that there's a Mitsubishi G4M ("Betty/Flying Lighter") and you can make out the Hinomaru on the side. Camo scheme is entirely wrong for German planes also.
@athodyd You're right, I thought I saw balkenkrauses on the planes the first time around, but I watched it again and these are definitely Japanese aircraft. No doubt about it.
@etothedubl you have know idea how it must feel to be on the receiving site. the sheer terror. knowing your head can be blown off any second by a cal 60 round. and you thing thats awesome? I hope you will never have to go to war and endure this my friend. I do like planes too, but never forget that they are killing machines, killing humans like you and me.
@dunderogbrak Probably from spalding, as dozens or even hundreds of rounds hit the armor, although they may not pierce it, the impact will cause the armor on the inside to shatter and shoot out at high velocity, burning/ shredding everything inside.
@Koumrian That's spalling, but yeah pretty much works that way. But also a .50 can penetrate light armor possible even the roof armor on say like a Tiger. However it doesn't have enough energy to go out the other side, so it bounces around like a pinball inside the tank,
Haha, just needs a kid narrating by going DAKADAKADAKA!!! and making plane noises. :P Great footage though. Where abouts do you get most of this stuff?
That was flying... not like now with the mavericks and air to air shit... It was all about balls and aiming like a motherfucker

At 0:29 there is what looks like a possible recording of the date for this film footage.
Written with a grease pencil is what looks like 3 - 14
Any of you talented amateur historians able to corroborate March 14 to any particular air offensive?

One has to wonder what would have happened if Japan had trained their fliers to be fighter pilots rather then one off Kamakazie fliers.
