Guys, it may seem that the USA is behind, but consider this : The robots used in the Robo-One competitions use a script based logic system. What that means is that a remote operator activates a pre-programmed routine by pressing buttons,switches,sliders etc. Although they look cool, the robots in fact have no AI that independently controls them. If you guys had the volition to do it yourself, you could build a robot like those. Although it will definitely cost alot of money.

It's un fortunate how far behind we are. I remember how unimpressive "Battle Bots" was. Even the British "Robot Wars" had more advance technology. Of course, we may see robots differently. Notice the japanese one are made of plastic and polymer and hour always seem to be of metal- not to mention less organic in nature.

You can move the upper body without feedback. If you try moving the lower body and legs without an active feedback loop then the robot would quickly loose balance. To do it right you would have to feel what the robot is feeling/experiencing and then move accordingly. The technology just isn't there yet.

It's a master/slave harness. The Majingaa team uses a similar approach. The basic robot upper body movements follow the boy's torso and arm moves, while the modified game controller in his hand allows him to control the legs and other servos.
