  • Why did she not kiss him a second time at 1:55?

  • Comment removed

  • This is wonderful....these characters are AMAZING....people should be like this more in reality...

  • yeh shes French so shes a stranger to this place lol i cud of told u that haha

    they just got rippd off

  • yeh shes French so shes a stranger to this place lol i cud of told u that haha

  • Amazing Movie..fell in love with the two of them in this segment

  • True very true.

  • The "can I tell you a secret" part was so cute!

  • watching this again, there is sooooo much foreshadowing of what is to come in the second movie.

  • did anyone see this on the big screen? I bet you couldn't hear a pin drop during the kiss!

  • I really like Jesse.... he's authentic and genuine

  • 1:10 The expression in her eyes destroys me.

  • oh wow, not sure what i think about the fortune teller.. it's almost like the narrative voice of the director popping into the movie.

  • I bet she is sooo soft, I would love a cuddle like that.

  • Celine has a flaw too. She thinks, up until the last minute, that Jesse is just in it for the story and it is all a charade; that he is making it up as he goes along. But you can see their trust in each other grow because neither is defensive; neither is accusatory. They accept each other as they are - completely undefended. It is a rare thing in this world to really try and understand someone else. As Billy Joek would say, "the woman's got soul." (So does Jesse)

  • When they dance to that strange fat robot's music and Jesse hits it to make it shut up again, it says "probier's nochamol" which means "try one more time"... and Jesse goes like "Yay!" :D

  • I think Jesse is smarter than Celine, and I love his cynicism. It's no character flaw!

  • we are stardust!!!!!!!!!!

  • at the end of this segment of the film is where celine discovers jesse's first character flaw. his cynical treatment of the gypsy has turned her off slightly and you can read by her body language and facial expressions. i think within every person there is a hint of the mystic. there's that quality within us which wants to believe in something which requires more faith than rationality in order to consider it. men have more of a tendency to mask this with cynicism. it's a macho thing... idk

  • Between the two movies I think there are 5 classic, epic, incredible moments. 1) the kiss in this video, 2) the scene where they play the record in the booth and steal glances at each other. 3) in Before Sunset, with Celine's rant in the Cab. 4) Celine singing the waltz in Before Sunset. 5) "I know."

  • the kiss makes my heart shutter. for real.

  • Before sunrise and Before sunset sequel is the best romantic drama i have ever seen. It didn't only thrill my senses, it raised my heart very deeply, I had similar experience before. Aside from that, Julie Deply was extremely gorgeous in this movie, she was in her mid 20s I believe.

  • I'd definitely make a first move if I met him under the right circumstances. Loving this!

  • I was in love for about 5 years with a girl, my then best friend, who didn't share the same feelings. Towards the end, it had torn our special friendship apart, she doesn't speak to me anymore, it launched me into a horrible deep depression which I still don't think I'm completely out of. The suicidal thoughts have gone but I feel empty and emotionless and even thinking about losing her, the closest friend I ever had, sends me into tears. Love isn't all its cracked up to be.

  • @kindahottish I disagree. No pun intended but at its very heart, If love is truly a mutual endeavour, then you weren't in romantic love because it wasn't shared between the two of you. In other words, although we don't know each other, with good fortune, I nonetheless hope there's better in store for you.

  • His mustache makes me wet.. o.o... ;)

  • woooahhh 6:11 - the same little line is repeated in Good Will Hunting! I've seen both these movies a ton and never realized!

  • Love it when the Woman makes the first move... Got to love it.....

  • I need a drink

  • Are you trying to say : you wanna kiss me ??? ahh the first kisss

  • @imroweh God you are right... but u know the hug after the kiss the way she drew herself into him.. it's so so romantic.. so giving type.. no.. I know I am not doing justice to describe it with words..

  • 2: 29 Punch Belly: "Probier´s no amol!" LOL VIennese for: "Try once more!"

  • my first kiss was almost like that...but it lasted for hours not just for a few seconds like here :-) haaaaa :-)

  • AAWWWWWW YYYEEEEAAAAAAH!!

  • esmee denters really looks like july delpy ..:O

  • I wish I had my own Jesse.

  • 7:19 WATCH OUT SHE USE GYPSY MAGIC!!!! COLLECT HER TEARS AND RUN FROM THE GYPSY!!!!

  • 1:23-1:25..adorable!

  • they want to hump each other

  • Once in a while you meet someone that you havea real connection with. We should all be so lucky. But its the insecurities, fears and society's outlook on life that hold us back.

  • @shazzqsong: that's absolutely true

  • I'd always heard what a great film this was and I was always skeptical. This is my first time seeing the movie and I'm absolutely loving it.

  • yeah you're loving it! i saw this when i was 13, when this movie came out. LOVED it : )

  • man do I understand ethan in that line. My father told me that I was an accident when I was about 15 or so and worse he told me that they were using condoms and I was still concieved. It pissed him off at the time and then I was born and he was in love and then I got to be a teenager and the hate started once again. Partially my fault partially because he was never meant to marry. He was meant to have children though, he liked to philander quite a lot. Like father like son I suppose

  • god i didnt see that kiss coming omg it was great!

  • god, she is so freakin delicious

  • lmfao the Benny Hill Theme

  • It would be impossible to resist this woman.

  • @AdArmand Really? I find her quite irritating.

  • you know, its a good movie, a good story..but the plot is tooo slooow...i get a bit bored...

  • since reality bites i've always thought ethan hawke is a great kisser

  • wow memories... its an amazing thing to meet someone randomly in some city and somehow have a conncection like you've known them for years, you can see them again years later and start where your last conversation left off... but is it real? or just a moment thats meant to pass?

  • Beautiful movie! I'm torn between the first and the sequel. I actually watched it backwards the first time I saw them. I saw before sunset first, and cried so much. Then my friend told me there was actually a prequel. I'm in my 30's, so I guess I related to the the older Jesse and Celine when they were older. How about you guys?

  • I also watched Before Sunset first and then found out about this movie. Loved that movie and am thoroughly enjoying this one thus far.

  • I too watched them backwards the first time. Actually I think it was better that way. It made the first one that much more interesting... as if I traveled back in time ;)

  • "Can I tell you a secret?..." He's soooo lovely!

  • uhh i loved that kiss!

  • It is so beautiful how they share such an incredible kiss and then the next scene is of them simply enjoying each other's company again. That is what love should be: Romance coupled with the ability to be yourself.

  • Jesse's final words about what he would like to hear a fortune teller say comes from the film "the 7 faces of Doctor Lao" in which Apollonius tells the wicked lady the same line. It's a beautiful scene of a wonderful movie.

  • i like the analysis that jesse believes too much in love and not the other way around...i agree with that bc as kids and teenagers we are often too idealistic and all the relationships that end up ending changes our perception of love..is it this unselfish, giving thing..it can be BUT only after we've gone through the selfish self-serving kind first...

  • That's so right on, i have to quote this. Please?

  • I had forgotten the moment after the first kiss where it looks like they're going to kiss again, but then Celine initiates that "warm hug embrace" instead--so tender coupled with the looks on their faces--it's like they knew right away this was not only "hormones" talking and that this was a deep shared desire for vulnerability and connection

and as other people have said the absence of music is another contributor to the intimacy of this scene

  • Maybe it is just me but to me, that is the great thing about visiting other places, you don't always have to be the person you. You can transform or pretend and maybe that is all they have but it is still a strong idea, at least in my opinion. To step out of the shoes of conformity even for a few hours on a train and a walk through a city might be life changing.

  • I can understand Jesse's cynicism it's not that he doesnt believe in love its that he believes too much in it and so far his experiences with love havent shown him a reason to believe so strongly in it. Especially since we learn later his gf whom he's traveled all the way to madrid to visit wasnt as happy to see him.

  • man... I know that here's a lot of scenes that remind us of real life, but it is still a movie. Jesse is just another in love man, but he doesn't have lived all that a normal Real Life man has... So that's the why he's so that in love. =)

  • goldenglow you give good criticism

  • Someone posted about how women only like Ethan Hawke's looks and not really the character of Jesse...that's not true for all women. I like Jesse because he listens to Celine, he's interested in her, he is interesting himself, he's open, he's flawed and I think he has a beautiful personality; you know even in the small ac tions of his. I dont treat men like pieces of meat and I expect the same from them. Treat me like a human being like Jesse treats Celine, that's my philisophy.

  • I agree =C

  • i agree with you. i like jesse. i was actually wishing i'd go on a journey and meet someone like him, a nice adventure to have. or even to actually meet someone like him. actually, i do know someone like him, but he's just a friend haha. but i like jesse. i like men like that. i'm sick and tired of boys who treat women like crap. it's not all about sex for jesse. he likes the connection he has with celine.

  • @drinksleepeatfilms beautifully spoken! i couldn't agree more.

  • @drinksleepeatfilms I guess this would be one of the most honest response;I do feel the same way for the women; But then again there are all kinds of people.. so we are left with accepting someone as s/he is.. Having said that I must say.. I wish ALL men & women have the ideology as you do... :)

  • @drinksleepeatfilms thank you for your comment. you really put my thoughts so well into words. i wish everyone could see the point... relationships generally just seem to have problems because of how they treat one another.

  • is beethoven music pathetique anywhere in this movie? i really can't find it...it's for a paper

  • My wife and I used to go around Cemeteries *after visiting someone there of course...it's romantic really. Whenever we think about it...it's kinda weird...but hey it's memories.

    The kissing scene here....so natural.

  • "She spent the whole life dreaming about another man she was always in love with"

Interesting, that is what happened to Jessie(in "Before Sunset"), at least as far as we know his fate.

I always wonder why such things take place: whether we really make wrong choices or we romantisize things too much and create an image of a perfect person in our minds and then using it as an exuse for being misarable with a person we are engaged with in reality, for failing to be happy-"if only we were with .."

  • that's so true. sometimes i wonder whether we just make ourselves pronlems up with love where we don't have to...

  • so cute!

  • "r u trying to say u want to kiss me?"

this is so romantic scene ever...

  • i'm glad they didn't put music behind their kiss... i think it actually made the scene stronger and much more tender :)

  • what was that i'm learning BS, I mean that is way condesending - She wasn't even doing me

  • i like the little corny moments like when they are not arguing or contemplating, these are necessary to take a breath and have some 'natural' moments in the film

  • But, I think there are couples who don´t stop talking, and thoose are the "natural moments"

  • 5:30 - 5:34 Funniest scene!

  • The palm reader's "stardust" thing is totally a Carl Sagan quote. Paraphrase, anyway.

  • lol, my mum is strangely weirded out by ethan hawke. i was watching before sunset with her last night and she kept giving him the side eye look. not sure why. i think i have to show her before sunrise.

  • aw, I think he's hot.

  • They sure do talk a lot :P

  • you should watch before sunset. they dont stop talking the whole time. like serisouly..theres no music..except for then end

  • WOW!.....stardust...starlight...star...star eh?

  • ahahahahahahahhahhhhaahah

  • i love how they are so open and honest with each other even though they just met

  • Sometimes it's easier to be honest and open with a stranger than someone you've known your whole life.

  • @taurusfroggy Indeed. It's sad but true.

  • Comment removed

  • this is a delectable movie which has great emotional resonance!

  • Oh my God, wat a kiss!!

  • oh, yes, indeed .

  • i unno man, im trying/going to...u know how many chicks are inlove with this guy from this movie...gotta at least try to understand what makes him so charming to the girls out there. although i wish a girl would jus tell me lol..but noooo they make me watch the movie..

  • The truth is, Women are not in love with this guy. Women are in love with Ethan Hawke's great looks in this movie.

99.2% of attractive women are just as shallow and judgemental as male are.

Don't argue with me ladies just accept the truth. :P

  • lol i think arguing is an understatement...well be lucky if they dont kill us...here we are 2 guys watching a super chick flick discussing why women like ethan hawks lol.

  • I was bored and curious that night when I was watching this movie. AZNKC, I bet you if had the same charm as Jesse, women still wouldn't like you. Well, unless you look like Ethan hawke.

  • sorry to break u the news but ive always done good in that category...and i have use some of jesses method in that movie such as the game about asking questions and answering honest...and u know what?...it works! i have gad quite amusing conversations followed with meeting up again soon! so there curiousty pays off and its charms are advantage men should take advantage of

  • HAHa...you are crazy!

  • then crazy i am! at least it gets me somewhere

  • well its done good so far...perhaps its the natural charm i have in pulling it off. anyhow u have nice life believing women are only after guys looking like brad pitt or ethan hawks...im sure itll find u lots of high quality girls.

  • Here is another good movie that will help you farther your "skills": Casablanca.

Actually, most women care more about money than looks. But it doesnt mean they will go off just marrying a wealthy person. In a women's eye its money first and looks would be an added bonus.

  • That's so not true xD

Not all girls are after looks! Charm is more important to me than looks =) A sweet, honest and serious guy, that's what i like. Ofcourse, a guy with the looks And the personality is great too!

But you're sayin that women wouldn't be interested in a guy with only the charm.

    Well you're wrong :)

  • No, I said that most girls care about money than looks. But again, like I mentioned, it doesn´t mean they would marry a wealthy person. There are other variables involve.

AngelChick: you even admit that looks is important.

If a guy who is very charming but you are not attracted to him, I bet you that you wouldn´t want to be in a relationship with him.

So well, you are wrong! ..and I am right:P

By the way, you got a pic? :P

  • I could have been attracted to him if he just had the charm and not the looks, so there :)

I had a 4 year long relationship with a charming guy, and he wasn't exactly handsome.. My friends didn't get why i liked him, but later on when they got to know him, they also realised how charming he was =)

    Yes, i'v got a pic (:

  • Perhaps, you are that 0.01% of the women population that doesn´t care about looks. We shall see..I am giving you the benefit of the doubt you know.:P

What are you waiting for e-mail me your pic. :P

  • Fine, send me your e-mail =)

  • I find these comments just as entertaining as the film. Think I can see it too?

  • this is such a cute movie. celine and jesse are perfect together...but jesse does have some growing up to do haha

  • greattoooooooooooooo

  • this movie is so unpretencious... that it makes it sublime

  • For some reason I can't get over how much I love the palm reading scene. It's such a peaceful, beautiful moment, plus their initial reactions to her coming over are so realistic.

  • I actually really connected to the palm reader's reading of Celine's palm - I also want to be the feministic, adventurous woman, and I think Celine really bought it all, because that's what she wants to be. Jesse, ehh, I guess he's not much one for fortune telling, lol.

  • I totally agree with you.

  • God I love this movie!

  • I love how little background music there is in this movie. It is so realistic.

  • The kissing scene in the Prater is probably the most tender romantic scene that has ever been filmed. It takes your breath away.

  • you're very right. i literally could not breath until the scene faded away.

  • I think it's in part because it's so quiet: there are no distracting sounds or cinema violins; the characters are the only thing. That's what makes it so powerful and believeable.

  • the conversation about his parents ends up being a looking glass into his own life...if you watch sunset you'll know what i'm talking about

  • Yes, brilliant observation!
