By this point everyone has been beaten down and there is raw emotions coming from all the characters. I can understand why the audience laughed when he entered if they are not familiar with the story. I had the privilege of sound designing for Cabernet at Kent State University and I loved being in the theatre every night mixing this song live being sang by a great actor and singer. Make no mistake this is a very serious scene and he sings with a great deal of pain.

@TheNadieboo It's a warning ( as Sally particularly) not to expect too much commitment- this should come as no surprise to anyone who has known her for 5 minutes, of course. But I guess it also has wider reference to a time when maybe alot of people thought they'd better hungrily and greedily, as it were, experience a lot of things quickly before the opportunities vanished with the new political times.

THANK YOU for posting this!!!!!!! When I saw Raul do this on Broadway I was profoundly moved because it was packed full of everything that had occured up to that point in the show... it was more than just the latest replacement actor singing a deceptively simple song!
