With the possible quad core iPad 3 coming soon, It should be available, I may venture into a new iPad, would be good to show the drawings, not sure about doing the projects i do on an iPad though, I use the 3D connexion controller. But would be really cool ;)
in no way does this illustrate ipad is powerful enough to run 3d design programs. It illustrates the fact that iPad is capable of displaying a 2D image of a 3D design program controled by your computer. Are you dumb?
I always want a 3D design app, I been playing around with autodesk inventor on my pc and i wish i could do that on my ipad..... " I figure if enough people are interested by this eventually a big company will eventually release an app" I am totally agree with you man and thanks for taking initiative of making this video...I will wait for a 3D designing app....
I really want to write one (even for myself) but I find facts off-putting:- [1] surely established co's can just port subset of desktop modellers - users prefer familiarity, world gets more code reuse & [2] there must be **thousands** of small ones in appstore already ?..
It would just be creation for creations sake ( as exists in open source world ).
I have many ideas on adapting to touch UI - positive experience of MBP trackpad makes me optimistic about device potential
i i found it very strange since i bought my first android 2 months ago that there wasnt an sketchup app in the google market, at least i suspected an sketchup viewer. it would be very cool and usefull to me.
Yes! 3D design on portable devices is certainly in the future. Perhaps not fully capable apps being that few people have the patience to swipe their screen 20 time to complete a task that could be accomplished in two button clicks on a PC or one command via keyboard. But I'd agree that a watered down version of inventor or autocad would be nice, or sketchup. Bare minimum would be the ability to orbit around the design, change views, show/hide layers and maybe change textures.
you are not illustrating anything with this, because you are just controlling the app wireless. The ipad is not doing the processing or calculating anything. All you are doing is illustrating that you are able to control 3D programs from your ipad
I know u are just controlling SKP that´s on ur PC..but leave a link where I can download the app or something like that i want to be able to edit SKP files on my iPad too.
if google could make an app that runs anything like this demonstration i would be the first to buy it, no matter what the cost is. On another note, the format of the Ipad is perfect for egineers, architects, etc.
The logic is flawed... you're using the processing power of your PC and the display of the Ipad. Unless the ipad is more powerful, you've shown / proven nothing except that the display works...

Tablet devices is not good for mesh modeling. I could be used for zbrush or mudbox kind of apps. Fingers is not accurate as mouse.

I have a Fujitsu Lifebook B142 with:
Celeron 300MHz CPU, 96 MB SDRAM, 6 GB HD and 8.4" screen 800x600
Running Win-98SE, and I have loaded Inventor Rev 6, the last version from AutoDesk that runs on Win 98SE. It works great.
The iPad has enough power to run a solids modeling program like Inventor or SolidWorks. Specially the new iPad-2.
Need some programmer to do it!
