  • PHILIP SAYCE!! ;D Awesome tone dude!!

  • Dear Tyler, I love your (distorted) sound. I had a silverface bassman 100 from '74 which sounded awful. I took out almost all the electronics (except the transformers)and decided to base it on the bassman '59, but with KT66's. It sounds very nice clean but I can't get that sweet distortion you have. The PPIV is a good idea. Do you have any suggestions? Maybe the preamp as the SR? Maybe exchange the PI tube from 12ax7 to 12at7? Makes the EVM10 speaker a great difference? I use Eminence. Thanks!

  • @GreenPylix

Two tips would be to use a mullard 12at7 in the phase inverter and to pay attention to wiring paths. Ocillations due to "cross-talk' between wires is a big cause for harsh distortions.

  • @GreenPylix Thanks for the hint. I will get into it and see what works out

  • Dear Tyler

What are the other mods you made. Curios to know...what caps, etc.....

    Sounds awesome

  • The record has offically been set straight!! :)

Thanks Tyler. I like a bit of recto sag (wow, that sounds pretty bad) but my '69 SR just came back from my tech and the sweet spot is nice but cranked, it's far too mushy.

Can a solid state plug simply be put in or does it need to be rebiased, or other?

The SR is a great amp but I know mine is not quite where I want it to be.

  • @MrPeterpuck007

it will need to be re-biased. Another reason players tend to lean towards tube rectifiers is that they lower the amps overall B+ voltage. This drop darkens the amps sound, but also decreases its headroom. Lower B+ means different bias range.

  • Tyler, please set the record straight on SS rectifier mods. Some say dangerous. How would you describe the impact on the SR.

    Thanks!!!!

  • @MrPeterpuck007

I'm confused. Who says its dangerous? A SS rectifier is actually SAFER then a tube since tubes fail, very often. Not to mention if can't put as much mains filtering as you want with tubes. The impact is more noticeable when cranked. The notes stay together better and don't fall apart into mush.

  • Hi , yeah I read about that somewhere lol I'm thinking of building a cab to go with it and love the range in your vid what ones are in there ??

    Thanks luke doherty

  • Hi I have an 63 Vibroverb with 2 10'' Jenson's in it what model EV Speakers are you using ????

    thanks Luke Doherty

  • @LukeCathanDoherty

I think they've only made one 10" speaker that works for guitar. The EVM-10M speaker.

  • the tone is ok to me, although not somenthing supernatural. What impresses me the most is your playing ability, you show knowledge of the neck and precision on your vingers.

  • Great sounding clip, man! Just wonderin'.... does your mods make the amp cleaner/more headroom or make the bottom end tighter??

  • Its hard to explain. I get more headroom and clarity through specified power tubes and certain circuit tweaks, but then add more gain and drive through other changes. There is no clear description to what I do. I try telling folks I do things to Fenders that "open" them up more. Hard to explain. Its the reason I made videos. Tone discussions are always hard since we are trying to explain sound with words!

  • what can i say, maybe one of the greatest amp ever build lol, great sounding tone.

  • can give me some advices on a PM on how to turn an amp this SRV'sh? LOVE your videos!!

  • Is this a reissue? If not, can you do these mods to a RI?

  • Sorry, I don't modify reissue fenders. The printed circuit board along with a few other factors make for more work/cost then its worth. Sorry! Though one can find a good early 70's silverface fender for about the same as a Reissue.

  • were do you live...i need to send you mine

  • Minnesota....its cold here;)

  • OMG it sounds terrific, I want one!!!

  • very impressive tones as always...unfortunately i live in Italy !!i want super reverb like yours ehheh:-))

  • Un-freaking-believable man! Only Fenders can get this sound.

Is it possible to mod channel one of a Deluxe Reverb to the specs of a 1962 Bassman to get the BM's overdrive?

    Thanks & rock on,

    -TC4L

By the way, what is the amp in the background?

  • The norm. Chan on AB763 amps are already pretty much the same as the AA864 Bassman circuit already. A few tweaks, and you're there. But Its not going to sound the same. Circuits are FULL SYSTEMS. Everything reacts to everything. Unless you have a full blown BM circuit w/dual 6l6s, you're probably not going to achieve what your after.

The amp in the back is a Traynor YBA-1a. But its no longer a traynor. I built it into a JTM50 Marshall. It rocks. I'll be doing a Youtube video of that amp soon.

  • Sounds great as usual! I'm still enjoying T.G. S/N 0005 --- the master volume you installed is a MUST on these amps . . . no more 'rattling the rafters' at the house in order to get 'that tone'.

    Jim K.

  • Glad to hear you're still happy! Maybe you'll send it back to me in a few years for "updates" :)

  • UPDATES?!? Do tell . . .

  • sounds wonderful!

    peace

  • where do you find EV speakers? Which model?

  • EVM 10m is the model you're hearing in this demo. eBay is probably the best way to find them. They are no longer made (why, who knows) so you have to find them used. Not an easy task.

  • very nice.

  • Nice sound!!!

    What strat do you use?

  • Thanks! Glad you dig the tones.

Same guitar as all my videos. An original 1971 Strat.
