you can work the throttle in time with a shift and it'll click threw nice and smooth, saying that though im talking to when your grabbing a handfull otherwise the first 2 gears can be a little ruff.
people are saying "you don't have to use the clutch to up-shift" - what really? I always thought bikes had a mechanism that meant you had to otherwise you couldn't up-shift at all ... I've only been riding for a year now so yes, I'm still kinda new
On a sportbike it's actually harder on the transmission when you use the clutch at speed to up-shift, so no, it won't ruin anything.
For smooth downshifts, blip the throttle (open it slightly to raise the RPMs - opposite of what you do when speed-shifting up gears) and simultaneously clutch and downshift.
When you up/down-shift properly it'll feel like you're riding a bike with automatic transmission - smooth as butter.
1) At speed, preload the shifter with your foot by applying pressure as if you're going to up-shift.
2&3) Cut the throttle slightly (about 25%); don't close it completely. At the same time, apply pressure to the shifter to snick it into the next gear.
4) Get back on the throttle.
The first few times you try this, do it from 2nd to 3rd gear so you don't have to worry about neutral. If you're not in your bike's powerband you'll probably need to slip the clutch.
On my 04 Gixxer 600, the powerband starts around 6k RPM, but I still clutch it unless I'm around 8k+ RPM. When I say clutch it, I don't mean pull the clutch all the way in. Use the same technique I described but add a slight, pull of the clutch and quick release when changing gears to smooth it out.
I almost always do this going from 1st to 2nd, unless I'm revving it to 10/11k+ in 1st, otherwise it feels kinda jerky.
Practice makes perfect. It is really easy. It only looks complex on paper.
Not completely. You're just cutting back the throttle a hair (really, you barely need to cut the throttle, especially when you get a feel for it) and then getting right back on it after you shift.
fer crying out loud...do you even ride? motorcycles all have constant mesh sequential trannys...if you know what you're doing you don't even need the clutch. on super hard take offs i never use it, it's just a waste of time and unnecessary wear and tear.
You don't need the clutch to change up - just wastes time - press against the change lever, back the throttle off slightly, and it goes in all on it's own!
i wouldn't bet money racing if i were you

but you have to relase the throttle, right?

Not fully. Here's how u do it:
1) At speed, preload the shifter with your foot by applying pressure as if you're going to up-shift.
2&3) Cut the throttle slightly (about 25%); don't close it completely. At the same time, apply pressure to the shifter to snick it into the next gear.

Some bikes are designed with a syncronizer and automatic electric throttle cut out so the clutch is not required on full-throttle shifts.
