As someone who has extensive experience in aviation, I have to come to the conclusion that this aircraft was downed due to a technical failure. Since it was operated by the CIA they probably didnt have full access to support a drone operation. i wouldnt worry about anything being compromised. There is nothing super secret about this aircraft. Everything is pretty much off the shelf technology.

The design of the vehicle aerodynamics has been out for a while.
Typically these vehicles have a destruct mechanism, but who knows if this specific vehicle included one, or if it just failed.

As someone who has extensive experience in aviation, I have to come to the conclusion that this aircraft was downed due to a technical failure. Since it was operated by the CIA they probably didnt have full access to support a drone operation. i wouldnt worry about anything being compromised. There is nothing super secret about this aircraft. Everything is pretty much off the shelf technology.

This seems to me to be the same sort of hog wash that Clinton used to get our rocket guidance system to the Chinese. Our guidance board, built by Loran, I believe, was inserted by American technicians into a Chinese rocket which of course crashed. This may not be such a great technology loss to the US. Very likely they have far more exotic tech on standby for more desperate times (anti grav?). A senior Iranian military official said the US reconnaissance drone had been seized with minimum damage.
The RQ-170 is an unmanned stealth aircraft designed and developed by the Lockheed Martin Company.
The US military and the CIA have also used the drone to launch assassination missile strikes in Afghanistan and in Pakistan's northwestern tribal region.

American officials have reportedly contemplated a covert operation inside Iran to retrieve or destroy an unmanned stealth drone that the Iranian military downed last week.
A US official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said that Washington authorities considered a covert plan to regain the remote-controlled reconnaissance aircraft, but aborted the secret operation in fears of an Iranian retaliatory measure, The Wall Street Journal reported on Wednesday.

since the Predator drone (MQ-9 Reaper) Program cost $11.8 billion , 1 Unit cost $154.4 million , 1 drone =$30.35 million the RQ-170 Drone would be priceless for the iranians, so far USA are not willing to share much info about this drone , and not willing to supply it even to there closest allies. now iran can involve russia /china in the study of of this drone in return for few s-400 / Dongfeng 21D ....etc

@Coolins335 Yup not just the cost of the drone, but the cost of now redesigning existing tech know the enemy has the tech in the drone. So billions more.
ie if you give a backwards enemy a gun, you now have to design bullet proof armour (say if didn't have it before) Also their tech has progressed as they learn about weapons you have.

@ad4m258 the Iranian electronic warfare unit were studying the movement of US drones inside iraq ,afghanistan and iran's air space for sometimes now,1st just by using a $30 off shelf software called SkyGrabber , then with there own r/f (radio frequency) engineers and computer programmers have managed to wipe out this drone programmed flight path in mid air,then hijacked it's navigation system. usually iran destroys US DRONES flying from iraq to iran (11drones) fearing that they may be armed,
