  • that's a wack song, junky mfz

  • OMG! I love this. Funky;)

  • CHOICES

  • Pick acid

  • It's wild how many of the '70s recordings are so tinny. The use of the relatively new transistor tech is mainly to blame...ugly square-wave distortion - while they were tossing Telefunken Tube Mics and pres (and probably some Ribbons!) in the dumpsters at Capitol and other studios (I talked with one of the old-times recently at Capitol and that was one of the stories that made me tear up a bit!)

  • @TiqueO6 that's incredibly interesting. and now everything is even worse

  • @newfuckingwave

in some fields it's much better - people are back to analog or sampling at really high rates.

Also, Ribbon mics are the mic of choice for many of the top engineers in studios and sound stages.

Listen to the soundtrack work of Shawn Murphy or the tracks for shows like "Treme" or "Boardwalk Empire" you're going to hear lot of unhyped tracking which brings out the character of the instruments and performances.

  • I smoked a horse once 0.o

  • I can't choose!

  • If u like acid, pot, pills or Horace Silver; then your gonna love my channel baby!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Truly reflection of that time. I guess today it would be Crystal meth, oxycotin or crack. or what ever drug choices are today.

My drug of choice is Real Jazz! The kind of jazz that makes you pat your feet and snap your finges.

  • @nodlew1943 fuck you. :) no one smokes meth or crack. lmao. And oxycotin is a pill. haha

  • @fortoday505 actually i have to agree with nodlew, being a part of the gen, people smoke ALL that shit today, i mean EVERYTHING

  • @nodlew1943 acid pot and pills are still widely available. those drugs uve mentioned are a different side of drug use

  • @CrateExcavator taking a shit can be considered a fucking art. instead of being stuck in the past try progressing music forward.

  • @thenamesfrancisco So you can't use the past to progress forward? That seems incredibly black and white. Truth is sampling is where the fan and the producer become one. Besides, everyone is influenced by the music of the past, even if they don't consciously "sample" artists they like they will inevitably take aspects from their favorite artists music and make it their own. That's just a fact of life.

Oh and I'm gonna sample this.

  • @PrimorInato you can use the past to progress forward, but how are you progressing forward? your not. lets be completely honest here, you are stealing someones music because you cant make music yourself. pick up a fucking guitar bitch.

  • @thenamesfrancisco he isn't stealing, he's paying respects to a great ass artist. People are so misunderstood when it comes to sampling.

  • Sounds like a Eugene McDaniels groove...

  • pills when i'm out with people. acid when I'm with a small group of people who are also tripping. pot whenever i'm chilling alone listening to music

  • this is the druggy song if i ever heard one wow 2011 version kush lean or x which one should i take lol

  • Silver, Gold or BIlls? Well, I'll go for SIlver ;-)

  • @dbsspaceoditty are you crazy?!?! they sample it because they loved the song too.. you can consider it paying respect to an artist and putting a twist on it for a younger generation... dj premier, j-dilla, or 9th wonder. even kanye west

  • @WuTangClan232 yeah. but he was a composer not a poser.

  • @WuTangClan232 maybe but I do not notice much -musicians- with ability to write and compose original piece these days, what do we have now after 3 whole generation of 'paying respect' hip hop dudes ?

  • im sorry. but i wanna kill people. why do all of these no talent rappers and "r&b artists" always sample all the good old music? the past five videos i watched i seen somebody say "im gonna sample that" dont use a damn sample either learn an instrument or get better with the equipment your using.

  • @dbspaceoditty because thats how hip hop was created believe it or not before hip hop the inspiration was funk and soul so they took those records and cut the chorus out and just used the breaks loop hence "break beats and hip hop" was created...to be specific it dates back to DJ kool herc who is the creator/godfather of hip hop.

  • This shit is real poetry

  • tough call

  • Who Are You To Say What Is Sacred Or Not?

I Don Recall The Pope Ever Using A Computer?

  • @ezearl The Pope is a fucking Nazi paedophile condoner.

  • quality guitar

  • something about this song wants me to shout "aww HELL naw!!" lol I love it!

  • pot, then acid.

  • @Giwilly18 then more pot, naturally

  • Some things shouldn't be sampled/ They should be held sacred. Hope they leave this bit of genius alone. Great post, man. Andy

  • @Toracube Sampling can sometimes revive an artist's work, bring them back into the forefront of the collective consciousness.

  • @psy0nyd3 Some people listen to music just for the hook. They are missing out. But they don't see it. I just think samplings lame, easy to do, and uncreative. Just my opinion.

  • @Toracube Its not easy to do. It takes a keen ear and sense for timing and tempo. Sampling is taking a photograph of music. Its the same as a comparison between a photographer and a painter. They both require different skill sets and neither are easy.

  • @psy0nyd3 I did not mean to offend. I realise that many have the ear and the talent for it, most with more talent than I will ever have. No doubt creative sampling is an art. But is someone a musician just because they can cut and paste? Not sure, and I know I am probably the only guy who feels this way. But I now it is more complicated than that. Maybe I am just to old school. Sorry if I have offended anyone here. You esp psy. I do respect your view though.

  • @Toracube There are some beatmakers/producers who "cut and paste" records and throw drums over them. Some, like myself. Recreate it to the point where you can't even identify the source. Look up J.Dilla, Madlib, 9th Wonder. Sampling is definitely not easy.

  • @TheSolKidd Thanks for the tips. Will check them out !! It was a slight dig at those who don't do anything new, steal and fool themselves that they are doing something original. A little arrogant maybe, but i was exaggerating to get my point across. I do that. But then, I don't copy anybody. I look forward to hearing your stuff. Thanks man.

  • @Toracube Don't copy anybody? don't we all, even if its just triads and modes? lol

  • @bluelampjazz It's an in-joke. You picked it up. Good spot, lol

  • @Toracube No doubt. I hear, where you're coming from. There are those who just do that, but marginalizing every single producer/beatmaker as doing so; Doesn't do any justice at all. No problem.

  • @TheSolKidd I think i was a little out of order. I was encouraging people to do their own thing. Create their own samples. Kind of put it the wrong way. I apologise for my sweeping generalization. A lesson learnt.

  • @Toracube It's all good. I feel you.

  • LSD! PILLS! & GANJAAA!!!

  • Acid Pot or Pills, which one is it to be, I just can't decide so I'm gonna have all three.

  • @humanvynil silver's previous work is crazy too, perhaps better and i'm a huge fan of 70's sound... check song for my father and his other 60's blue note records. but i agree those are more funky

  • good post.tnx :)

  • tha pot bro

  • Good n' Funky!!!!!

  • Horace Silver .Genius .

  • Oh man! Horace goes in for Jazz/Funk Fusion. I've never heard any of his work from this period. Oh well, the further expansion of the Hard Bop concept into the new Rythmn and Blues of 1970. Cool!

  • those lyrics are crazy dude he can write lyrics for artist today and make them better lol

  • @hapz3000: Well . . . this one comes off as cheesy and dated. And i think it was on its release date as well. But his Hard Bop tunes were sheer genius.

  • @hapz3000 like a ghostwriter

  • What song?

  • dope.

    pun intended.

    sample sample sample

  • @KalmQuest you mean steal steal steal

  • i like the santana/hendrix vibe

  • @KalmQuest did you actually sample it, if you did, can you hook me up.

  • 40 years of technology bloom (since this track was released), how little has been changed. Sad, but uplifting at the same time. Great post!

  • @ZhenyaYufanov i believe that human mind developement goes slower than technology's. there are single people that discover things and smaller amount of people from society that keep up with that pace (even smaller amout are musicians). but still there are GRAND bands and people out there that are still doing something new and mindblowing. On the other hand music is something universal. It doesnt matter if music had been made in 18th century (eg. Mozart) or nowdays using some crazy effects.

  • HELP!... I need Bigger Lapels!!!

  • nice

  • Good Lord, is this the same wizard pianist who comped with his intricate harmonies behind Miles and Rollins, who stimulated Clifford Brown, Mobley & Dorham, and Art Farmer to bring the house down, who set us on fire with the smoking 'Filthy McNasty' and 'Sister Sadie'?! Horrific old age.

  • It's not like he doesn't have enough real jazz output from the heyday of Blue Note. It's like when people criticize Kool & the Gang for going soft after they made funk for 7 or 8 years (like 10 albums). It's tough to tell without being there what was in Horace's heart at the time but there had to be a "been there done that" factor.

  • mattmcwax, you may be right. After all, Miles went into another direction, too. But now this: great musicians like Franz Liszt and Bud Powell made their style more sparse in their later years, so as to bring the essence out of what they had to say. And that deepened their music, something which I fail to hear with Horace. But again, I cannot look into his heart and mind, so thanks for your remark.

  • The answer for poor Horace, unfortunately, seems to be "all three!" :(

  • great album

  • 'my soul is my computer'... hee heee... horace silver is my favourite ever pianist, right there with HERBIE HANCOCK and patrice rushen... artists like these have altered their sounds with the times, but remained classic! and blue note is my favourite label. always, you have gems.

and andy bey (another one of my favourites) and his sisters with silver is always amazing.

i am thinking of the pharoahs right now... all good stuff.

  • i was just about to put this on, good choice

  • hell yeah I have this on LP funny ish
