@SSUstufRudel The sub captain always carried an empty coffee can (with lid) for just such occasions. Also, the pilot was limited to only 4 oz. of beer before the voyage.
@BR5499a Ho come on mate. The guy that posted this is from the Netherlands. I would like to see you post in Dutch, Flemish or French and make such a small number of mistakes. Also to say something is Very Unique is a common remark in the UK and EU. It may not be correct QE. But it is done to over reiterate the rarity of a thing and is excepted as a common form.
These subs didn´t necessarily end up being sunk by torpedo-boat-hunters. The torpedo´s functioned also as balast to keep them submerged, Once the torpedo´s were released the sub would surface, ending up in a 'sitting-duck' position. Basically the subs went on a probable suicide mission. The war museum in Overloon (Limburg also the Netherlands) also has one on display.
Biber = Beaver in Deutsch, Bieber sounds like a different German dialect of the same word. I am tired of reading these comments about Justin Bieber wherever I go on Youtube! Please give it a rest folks, that is so 2010!
@ZombieKingJJ Possible, but they were armed as attack craft, and if you want a heavily armed recon unit, why not just use an s-boat? The biber was a really brave and desperate idea - as all midget sub ops in the war demonstrate, these really were suicide missions and of course they were invariably deployed against high-value targets where they could do the most damage. So, reconnaissance - I feel otherwise.
Adjusting ballast after letting that ordnance go would of been difficult if you were firing from well under water, Geez, you'd bob straight to the surface!
I Spose it was meant to engage shipping from the surface... Some one enlighten me?
if i'm right, this mini sub is located in belgium, domein raverszijde (near ostend) oostende called in flemmisch. where a hisorian part of the atlantic wall has been keeped in good condition becouse its build on royal territory and carfully restored by an organisation. and if i'm wrong its a good place to visite while your in belgium.
As far as I know, the midget submarines, Biber and Molch were hastily constructed objects, using engines from car manufacture, and lots of crew died from exhausts from the engines.
The one and two men crew could hardly move in the confined spaces of the boat, causing more phsical damage, they blackened out easily.
This may be some of the reasons why those boats were hardly successful.
@hitide286 german subs are awsome russians are trhe most insecure of all. you comparing the indian car "nano" with mercedes bens , then you'll be closer. in your comment,
@XdavidX1197 German war time U boats had insufficient reserves of buoyancy. They where so great that they where roundly defeated. They were not called iron coffins by their crews for no reason. The Uboat waffe suffered the greatest losses of any corps in any armed forces. The Biber claimed more victims from the poor sods who crewed them, than they ever inflicted on their targets. Yeah real Awsome.
I have to agree. The Type XXI would have been quite the weapon if it only came out in say 1942 and they were able to make a lot of them. Still, it never happened so no bother in speculating. The Type VII was a workhorse but really not the greatest sub when you get right down to it.
A lot of U-Boat drivers were either burnt a live or suffocated in the engine fumes. Charming.

Nederlands Kustverdediging Museum. For those interested in mini submarines, do searches on Seehund and Neger and Wellman as well.
