That was cool. Even though this is not an actual match or a fight with full power blows making contact it still shows JCVD's dexterity and agility. This is NOT a real fight or even a practice one, it is just an exhibition. But I gotta say, starting after 1:40 JCVD has got some REALLY awesome foot work! That's what you call footwork, he's definitely a bruce lee student.
Ummmm this was no different than his movies. He wasn't sparring...it was play fighting. No one was close enough at all to really make contact, and no one actually was trying to make real contact.
His right leg kicks are pretty but his timing and sense of distance needs a lots of work. Just based on what we see on this video it's quite obvious he hasn't done real sparring for a long time.
@MrTylerDurden yeah but have in mind that he left fighting when he was 21. he managed to work himself up to a record of 18 wins all of them ended in knockouts and 1 one loss which he later avenged by technical konckout...granted some of them were not full contact but many where and.its worth mentioning that his oppenent in this clip is 5 times world champion in karate...im not etire sure about that claim b but im almost certain ive ´read it in somewhere..will look it up and respond back..
@vaevictious I'm aware about his kickboxing career which took place 30 years ago. Van Damme is in good condition considering his age. But fighting fit at this very moment? No.
@MrTylerDurden remember that was wkf style wich is more different with karate competition of 30 years ago even if u take any champion of any martial arts he can't follow the timing of those guys except machida who did that few years ago but u see the mawashi kick of van Damme is faster than other guy van damme is strong at hi age man it's rare to see people like him
@JanvierK I already said he's in good condition for his age. He's has always been fit. I'm not an expert when it comes to different karate styles. I'm a kickboxer. What I see is a VERY light hearted exhibition. They're not even trying to make contact. Nonetheless the other guy was a far better fighter. I don't understand why JC keeps lifting his left knee after almost every right leg kick he throws. Totally unnecessary move. He's not all fake but not a great fighter either...
@MrTylerDurden hahahh lifting knee is his trade mark he is a martial arts star you know !! but he is also a good fighter remember that he was wolrd champ in open karate(all styles) and his record in kick boxing is 18-2 and he won all his game with K.O he was also the youngest at the age of 19 or 20
he may not b a fake,..but ive NEVER seen most of these so called GREATs in actual sparring matches,..like that right there,..that was an exhibition,..anybody can throw good looking, fake outs for 5 minutes then shake hands
@energyimpuls you know that vandamme challenged seagal at stallones house during a party, steven chickened out and left the party. the story is on youtube, and it was stallone who told it.
@vaevictious When Don "The Dragon" Wilson (former professional kickboxing world champion and actor) challenged Van Damme to a full contact kickboxing match Van Damme chickened out and called it a "publicity stunt".
@MrTylerDurden if i left fighting when i was 21 like vdamme did and then move on to acting...i wouldnt want go back to fighting after so many years of inactivity...becuse a loss would result in the end of my moviecareer...im sure thats how vdamme revaulated the situation....im not saying vandamme would beat don....but context is everyting!...i think in a fight between the two that don would most probably win...but i also believe that vandamme has faster legs..and a more pwerful punch so..
@vaevictious You're quite right. Can't really blame Van Damme. He made a fortune with his movies. However his kickboxing record is quite obscure. Was it kickboxing at all, difficult to say. They were wearing karate uniforms...what kind of kickboxing is that? One thing is certain...Don would've definitely beat him inside the first round...
@MrTylerDurden well i dont know about the first round...he took a haymaker from ben sherman that made jc go to countdown but jc came back and delivered an axe kicked to shermans head that knocked him out cold.
@vaevictious i meant bergman sherman..look him the guy had quite good solid record...i mean vandamme must have been made of something to defeat that guy...but as i said i still believe that don would win..but not as easily as you portray.
@vaevictious I found Sherman Bergman's record on wikipedia and JCVD's aswell. Thanks for the heads up. About Don Wilson...In his prime Don was as tough as a nail...very difficult man to beat...
this was in Turkey

hes quick isnt he. he makes light work of dodging those quick attacks, following up with a nasty right hook. Awesome!

@MrTylerDurden Don and Benny might annihilate him. I'd like to see him fight the tall steven segal.
