I think your rant was very inaccurate. First about Alterac Valley. The reason why Blizzard did that was because of how players just wouldn't stall out on AV. Before then AV could have easily lasted forever, and it would take the excitement out of the way. Another thing which you mentioned previous was leveling was inaccurate. I found myself using different combat techniques in the outdoors and it wasn't repetitive or redundant.
Really? The whole fun of AV was that it was huge and could last forever! Then they threw in reinforcement BS and made it suck. The length was pretty much what made it so fun.
Also, congrats, your the only person who doesn't do the same thing over and over while grinding.
Not just me. In many fights people are in a position in which they have to fight in a different style, depending on which type of mob. As for the "repetitive" quests, what other quests can you do aside from collecting or killing enemies. Honestly Blizzard does a great job making the game dynamic. Not everyone wanted to spend over 2 hours in AV. Some people didn't want to wait such a long time for honor. You do bring up points, and I completely agree with you about RMT, but WoW is still king.
The only time most people fight with a different style is on certain Raid bosses. If you wanna see how to do not repetitive quests play a GOOD MMO like EQ2 or Mabinogi. Or hell, even DDO. And yea, the AV is just personal preference. I don't really like too many MMOs because they're repetitive as hell. WoW is not an exception from this. Your last phrase implies your a fanboy. The only reason WoW does so well is because Bliz actually ADVERTISES and had a WC fanbase before WoW
Again some of your statements were false. EQ2 doesn't sound like a bad MMO IMO because I did hear about it. But MMOs usually have the same theme. As for WoW being popular, you are right in some cases but, WoW is popular for other reasons also. WoW was very revolutionary when it came out because it brought out a whole new generation of MMOs. Players can now play on a casual level in which they can accomplish tasks without investing a lot of time.
Yes Warcraft had a fan base, but not every Warcraft player would have been attracted to WoW because of the different genre. The idea that an MMO from Blizzard is the #1 reason why WoW is popular. Thats because not only Blizzard specializes in PC games, but makes PC games that are fun and easy to learn. I'm a veteran MMO player, I played Asheron's Call, Everquest, and now WoW. Blizzard designed WoW in which it was not only suitable for the MMO crowd, but also on a general level as well.
