Antibitotics can be given AFTER the procedure to a)help clear it up but b)mostly to prevent secondary infection (especially in vulnerable areas). But without drainage of the absess (surgical or otherwise and preferably the former, with a good clear-out and irrigation), antibiotics, on their own, are absolutely useless in most uncomplicated absesses and should never be routinely prescribed,

The antibiotics I was prescribed were in pill form, but not right for the strain of infection I had, this was changed twice. The third antibiotic was given to me the day of this event and it was a shot, but at that point I also had to go into the ER for IV antiobiotics. They cultured a sample from my elbow as well. The cellulitis had spread upward close to my shoulder.

Then went in to see this doc who drained and kept me on same meds. this video is from two days after the first draining. at this pt i couldnt' bend my arm.
If you're wondering how it got so nasty, is because this isn't the first time shes gone for the absess, they previously drained it, sounded like he did a bum job the first time, and she'll prob return again. He needs to drain it with a syringe which works almost like a pump, till he reaches a more dark blood inside of it. elbow's are much harder to determine the size of the absess, rather a shin or forearm. The elbow tends to stockpile much higher amounts of meat. and hide lumps. she got in late

I had one on my ass. I was too embarrassed to go to my cute ass female doctor so I watched a bunch of youtube videos on how to take care of it! LOL (But I'm Dead Serious!) It's healing nicely.
It didn't hurt that bad. There are worse wounds! Funny part was that in the beginning the doctor said, "ok, if you jump off the table here i'll use lidocaine on you" LOL!

Even with an injection of antibiotics, I think the wound should have been drained completely and rinsed with a saline solution before packing.
